The Zaknir Chronicle
Article written by: Justin Speks

During the period of Amabil Cătălina Botazatu's government, the flag, and banner, of The Holy Democratic States of Broken Edge was changed. The change was the removal of the previous royal insignia of the Black Sun. This change was meant to represent that Broken Edge is no longer a monarchy, and does not bow to the whims or cater to the needs of the royal line. The official statement from the government is as follows, "We are proud to announce that the referendum for the new flag has ended with a great majority of citizens voting for a flag, and banner, without the royal insignia in the centre." To which they added, "We would also like to reiterate that this does not mean that the royal family is not a respected part of our national community, and we will still continue to appreciate the great things that they have done for our country in the past."

The vote, which ended with about 89% of voters voting for the new flag, and therefore banner, is reported to have been influenced greatly by the political activist group Broken Edgeans Against Monarchs, or BEAM for short. As anyone who has been to Broken Edge since the start of the referendum can attest to, the group has gone on a massive campaign to convince Broken Edgean voters that the new flag is the way to go.

In somewhat related news, a new poll asking citizens about their opinions of the royals has finally published its results. They have found that around 12% say that they want the royal line to receive tax cuts and help from the government, 70% saying that the royals are fine to stay in Broken Edge but should not receive special treatment from the government, and around 17% saying that they wish that the royals would not be as popular as they are.

If I wanted to make a regional holiday that could be done through a law instead of a constitutional amendment right?

September 2 is the day of the signing of the constitution, I believe, I think that would be a good day for one. "Oatland Day" or something of the sort

I am going assure you that, despite our father nation being rather aggressive and confrontational, we are an Armed Republic for defensive purposes only. That includes regional and local!

"Delphi Bergit, back from... trying to forget..."

Random Oatland Games Tourist: ~flopping around on the ground like fish out of water~ "Still see fishy can't swim!!"

"Oh shut up!! Geez, just roll the footage..."

Aclion wrote:Here are the results for today's events:
In equestrian sports Paul Stripe of Keyyn took the gold, while Mandy Baldwin of Fishy Apples took the silver and Akira Oribe of Nagakawa took the bronze.

July 21st, 13:24 Aclion Standard Time:
"Delphi Bergit for FAWN Sports, back again from Bastiet, where we just got watched the Equestrian competition wrap up, and behind me the festivities are quite loud as the people of Keyyn is celebrating their first Oatland medal, the tourists from Keyyn who came here to cheer on their athletes, and on this day, one Paul Stripe, who completely dominated the course with his thoroughbred today..."

Excited Keyyn Fan: ~walking past camera and Delphi~ "WOOO!! Go Keyyn!!"

"Yes, go Keyyn. Well, just as excited despite being a distant second was our own Mandy Baldwin, who won Fishy Apples its third silver medal these games, managing to tie us up with The great bhutan in the overall medal count, and and now Fishy Apples is two for two in the field of equestrian sports, each of our prominent equestrians possessing a medal of their own now, though to listen to Mandy talk about it, she's winning some sort of rivalry that Cheryl seems to be completely unaware of.
Meanwhile, Akira Oribe took bronze for Nagakawa, but celebrations were cut short as news came that their home region of Japan was invaded by the paramilitary forces of Lily, led by the diabolical and disturbingly cute despot Sweeze, who overthrew Japan's current regional leader Otaku Stratus in what many would call 'a d*%# move.' We here at FAWN will keep you abreast of what happens next in this breaking story."

Aclion wrote:In Archery Audre Jamba Adesina of Hyon Delta took the gold, while Adam Stallion of New order of Equus took the silver, and Toshiyuki Murakami of Nagakawa took the bronze.

July 21st, 16:20 Aclion Standard Time:
"Delphi Bergit back yet again with more news from the 2020 Oatland Games, where the Hyon Delta has gotten their second medal with their precision today, Audre Jamba Adesina winning gold in archery with three early bullseyes and regular hits near dead center. Adam Stallion, representing the New order of Equus from Equestria, took silver with their show of marksmanship, getting a last-minute Robin Hood that put him in prime position to take the gold, but his last shot was a hair off of scoring an 8, which would have meant possibly tying Audre. Finally, Toshiyuki Murakami of Nagakawa topped off the event by winning another bronze for their nation, even as the current crisis continues in their region. What a trooper!!"

"Wh... W... What just happened there? Someone? Anyone?! The hell was that? I... I... I... I don't want to live on this planet anymore." ~grabs and shakes Anacin News reporter Gladys Remainton viciously in a panic and whining like Aqua jostling Kazuma~ "HOW?! HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN TO US... AGAIN!! THIS ISN'T FAIR!! WE'RE PART FISH!! HOW ARE YOU BEATING US?!"

Céline Berlioz, Gold Medal winner, Swimming: "You mermaids rely too much on the strength of your tails to swim. Competition pool swimming is more about upper body strength and control. Sure, in terms of raw power in open water, your Lily Normande would blow me out of the water, but in the limited space of the pool, where power often comes second to technique, your team will never stand a chance."

"Still feels like shenanigans to me."

Lily Normande: "Amen to that."

"Oh, shut up you..."

Gladys: "Could you let me go now before I become very sick upon you?"

Voiceover of Mari Sato: "Because of the emotional trauma Delphi Bergit experienced, she was not able to complete the report of the results of the swimming event. Needless to say, we lost again, and much like Ms. Bergit, a collective sense of of shock and what some would call PTSD has set in, as many cannot understand how we failed not once, but twice now, to medal in something that should come naturally to us. Meanwhile, as seen in during our lead sports correspondent's breakdown, the gold medal winner for the event Céline Berlioz of Aclion gave a brief interview to FAWN Sports giving their take on why we fail to medal. However, not shown was Semyon Owlerski of Anacin, who not only impressed with their technique, but with their speedo emblazoned all over with advertisements, the most prominent ones being for Costington's and SuperVolt Batteries. Finally, there was Kazunari Ōsugi of Nagakawa, who made it a bronze trifecta today, keeping their nation, and their region's spirits strong in the face of the Lily invasion."

Aclion wrote:Here are the results of today's events:
In fencing Walter Van Der Wilk of Hyon Delta has taken the gold, Françoise du Gast of Aclion has won the silver and Kenji Shiwatora of The Onigiri Enclave has taken the bronze.

July 27th, 19:22 Aclion Standard Time:
"Del... Delphi Bergit here. Comfortably numb. Hey, it's fencing. Hooray. Let's see how we screwed this one up... Welp, Walter Van Der Wilk of the Hyon Delta won gold with a clever riposte against the person who ended up winning silver, Françoise du Gast of Aclion after Françoise parried one too many times. Returning to the medal stage for a second year, this time claiming a bronze medal, and again their nation's only summer games medal is Kenji Shiwatori from our neighbor The Onigiri Enclave. In more positive news, the invasion in Japan was finally repelled since we last broadcast, and Otaku Stratus has been restored as leader of Japan.

Aclion wrote:In sailing Dominique Barre and Andre DeSone both of Antibuda have taken the gold and silver respectively, while Poppy Van Rome of Belned took the bronze.

July 27th, 20:04 Aclion Standard Time:
"Well, we're here to check in to see the conclusion of the sailing event, and here come the boats, and it seems Antibuda takes silver and gold, while Belned takes the bronze!! Seeing this race of nautical vessels skimming across the water almost took my mind off what happened last week... Now I'm sad again."

Voiceover of Mari Sato: "...and with that, only one event remains in limbo, that being the suspended rifle shooting event skipped earlier in the games. However, this doesn't stop us from doing a medal count of the nations so far!!"

Fishy Apples: 4 - 1G, 3S

"Well, that's just about all here folks. Some folks are still wondering if we're still even going to have a rifle shooting competition this year, but at this rate with the munitions holdups I don't know. All I know is... I need a drink. This is Delphi Bergit, trying to forget we can't swim."
