Kingdom of Arthedain

The news of the engagement in Nan Curunir reached the ears of King Minyatur; what an unfortunate event! 'tis was the first time the armies of Arthedain were defeated in battle, and it showed that, no matter how strong the kingdom is, defeat in battle is still a possibility.

King Minyatur also did not quite understand the rationale behind the Empire of Coldvar's actions; they made it clear that the army was to be let to pass through their lands! Was it a betrayal or a simple misunderstanding? If it was just a misunderstanding it definitely was a seriously costly one.

The remaining army was not sufficient to proceed to Gorgoroth. The king has no choice but to disband the army and be the amusement of the other various faction leaders of the land. And the Empire is going to pay ...

The King consulted with his most trusty advisor, the Sage. No formal declaration of war is to be given at this time; they are going to play the naivity game. But, in order to keep their lands secure, both the King and the Sage reached the conclusion that the capitol has to move from Southern Arthedain to The Shire.

-- the dwarves of Foothills, that escaped from Ettenmoors, and had reached Clan Frostbeard --

Horudik listened to King Dralvik with awe. During the king's speech, Horudik could not help to also gaze around at the marvels of the great fortress of Khazâd-gund. Crafted with great care to safeguard these desolate lands, the dwarvish trade, ventures and holdings of the North, it was now a central part to the kingdom of Clan Frostbeard.

Compared to the rest of the dwarves, Horudik was quite young and displeased the art of war. The small group of dwarves he was part of were all members of various houses, banded up due to the harsh times suffered by the dwarves of the land past the mountains, with the orcish advance and the pirate menance to the south. Horudik was quite shunned by the other dwarves of the company for his lack of interest in fighting, and was delegated to cookwork; a place where he had spent many of his hours.

Horudik was also quite inexperienced when it came to cartograph the land, so he scratched his head many a times when the king asked to draw for him a map. Nevertheless, he did not want to disappoint such a central figure in the kinship of dwarves so he laid out all that he knew to the dwarf scholars of Forochel;

"We were met by the Druwaith folk one day and were paid to do some mining work. We all were quite happy, as the coin was to secure food for a long time.

So we passed through a vast green wood and came to the lake, along the towering range of the mountains. The valley was a series of rocky landforms and rugged terrain extended into all directions and all around us were glacial peaks like you have in Forochel ... and I remember also heavy mists!

We walked deeper into this valley ... it was deep, with steep sides, as any great mountain valley is. Our Druwaith masters knew very well the road and had seen the scenery for many a times not to matter any more, but for us it was all new. Just past the point where the path turned narrow and could only walk with great care, we noticed a gentle slope rising away and a steep escarpment facing the woodlands of Lothlorien. There, you could see many streams on the cliffs below, emptying over the even-lower cliffs in waterfalls and converging into the distance to the river Kibilnala.

It was all bizzare! We descended due West into a valley and here we were, atop mountains facing East!

As we proceeded onward through the narrower path, we noticed that erosion was more advanced and fissures were numerous; The path turned narrow and narrow; at first we could walk ten dwarves side by side, then eight, then six, then four and, in the end, we could be no more than two dwarves side by side. By this time the mountains were blocking all the light and we had to light torches; the Druwaith folk were all prepared for this, and they had all that was needed for the trip.

We walked like this for a little more until, suddenly, the valley came to a halt and we had the rocky mountain right to our face; we could see gentle dents in the mountain rock, definitely made by lesser human pickaxes in their attempt to carve the rock and we knew then that there was the spot we were brought to.

There we began to mine, first in the mountain and then below; and soon enough, to our dismay, we saw that the rock gave in and unveiled a passageway below. How the Druwaith folk knew of this place I have no idea ..."

As Horudik begain to describe his journey. Dralvik excuse himself and left him alone with the higher scholar, whom aproach Horuldik with a charcoal stick and some parchments. The map of wrinkles on his face told of the most incredible journeys trought the frostland of Forochel. His tired eyes, framed by thick white eyebrows, had lines told of laughter, of warm smiles and forlorn love. His forehead told of worries past and worries present.

The superior scholar did not take his gaze from Horudik, as his trembling hand grasped a piece of charcoal. Once he grabbed the writing piece, his pulse became steady and he began to sketch the map, following Horudik's description. The other scholars approached, to take notes for their reports.

Meanwhile in his chamber, Dralvik was also doing some writing. As he was concern with the trolls hunting down dwarves in the lands of Ettenmoors.

The king's face was showing the concern of this barbaric practice and the risky of pointing it out to the already humillated and angred trolls, but nontheless he continued to write it down. Since his thought about it was immovable, he thought that it was the best thing to do for his people.

Enforce a cease hostilities towards Dwarves

Warchief,

It has come to my aware that in the lands near to Ettenmoors several trolls had hunted down fellow dwarves. I enforce you to abandon this practice at once.

This practices make it more difficult to us to negotiate a long term peace treaty that favors our boths factions.

If food is main the problem then I will gladly send some tamed boars that you can raise and feed from. But bear in mind that if this practice continues I will be force to take a more agressive aproach.

You have been warned,

King Dralvik
________________________________________________________

As he wrote down his name at the bottom, the King the looked over his desk towards his war-table. He was concern that the trolls will not take the boars offer and they will venture further east. He then send call out a goat rider and specify to deliver the message to an orc or slave at the border of Upper Rhudaur to not risk any dwarven life on the delivery. The goat rider nodded and went off.

Dralvik was still concern with the message, so he ordered the reserve of Forochel to marched and mustered the garrisons. High commander Toremrouk, spreaded the order across the land and made the necessary arrangements.

After king Dralvik ended his tasks, he went back to the Library just in time when Horudik finished his narration, and the high scholar was transcripting his sketch to and actual map.

"So... young one, I need you to answer me two things... ", said Dralvik to Horudik while looking at the sketch: "What you need for this quest to retriver the artifacts and how many voluntiers for the company? For your safety, the soldiers are heading to Upper Rhudaur. Your company will follow them after making the proper informs and preparation on the equipment... So tell me what its it that you need?"

Horudik felt a great burden of responsibility on his small dwarvish shoulders.

"King Dralvik, please do not misunderstand me; I am not interested in conflict and this grand scheme of things is way beyond my head; My father and uncle and those in our little group, they discovered the artifacts and they were evicted by the Druwaith Folk and decided to move to contact other dwarf families as their desire to recover the artifacts was grand.

After seeing all my family die in such a deplorable and disgraceful manner, I understand that the gruesome ways of war are not for me and I'd rather go on to work in a small cookwork here on top of the mountains. I came to you to honor my father's desire and as not to leave the history of these artifacts get lost through time yet again.

But I do not know what any dwarf can do to get these back; the Druwaith folk are a quite savage race of Men; somewhat reclusive and very dangerous; they have no formal residence and live in trees, in caves and in impromptu huts to avoid the rain while out in the open field. They have basic, crude weapons and little to no armor but every item they have is dipped in potent poison. Make no mistake, they appear weak on purpose ...

And they have these odd rituals ... their eyes turn red, and all they do is look for trinkets, artifacts or other magical items and they spend many hours seeping out their powers; in doing so, they become even more dangerous! That is what my father, Aulë may rest him in peace, believed would happen - if it hadn't happened yet - with the glorious items we excavated from that place outside of Redhorn Gate, and with any else that remain in that secret cave.

I can take you back there, but to what goal? The Axe of Durin is all but lost by now ... and this time, forever."

Torogok received a message from the Dwarf-king of the North; the message was delivered by one of his soldiers. Torogok snickered; "the dwarf learned not to bring his spies around this time."

Torogok listened to the message sent by King Dralvik. The Trollshaw realms still needed some time to lick wounds and stabilize, but that required a careful answer as not to antagonise the dwarves.
"There are many animosities between trolls and dwarves as of the recent events. I try to keep hold of my trolls, but I can not guarantee safety for no secret expeditions that walk through our lands; if you want dwarves to cross Ettenmoors they are more than welcomed, we send a troll-guard to safeguard your troops and all is good. But if you plan to walk in secret, do not expect me to take heed of any and all troll in my lands as they have their own mind and their own desires for all that happens in their own swamps.

But I know of what troll you speak. Once started in a fight he will not stop until either he or his victim is dead. He has been scolded many times by his masters for bringing in dead victims, but his intellect is too dim to fully understand their instructions, and when he is earnestly engaged in a battle his feeble mind is so completely occupied that it is just useless to reason with him."

Clan Frostbeard:

Dralvik looked at Horudik seriously with a mixture little disappointment in his eyes, after the young dwarf ended his phrase.

Dralvik putted a hand over Horudik shoulder and said: "The grand scheme of things is beyond everyones head... only Mahal and the Holy ones of Arda to comprehend. Your father would surely be happy to know that you have honored him, even if he is at the halls of Mahal now. I am fatherless as well, and I struggle between what he would do and what I want... this burden will stike along all your life young one belive me.", Dralvik took of his hand from Horudik's shoulder and took the map: "I don't want to force any dwarf to do something that they don't truly belive in or want to do... I just though that you would volunteer for this task... but I understand now that this artifacts are linked to yours family disgrace and I will not force your to remeber that tragedy... how remembering them is your own growth path.

The king looked at the map once again, and gave it to the high scholar.

"I will make you an other offer", Dralvik continued: "... one that will suit your desires, young one. But first I will like to know something regarding the Dru folks, cause I must honor the Seven Fathers's legacy, as I am a decendent of Thúlin's folk myself. So hear me out Horudik."

Dralvik frowned, searching for answers in Horudik's eyes and said: "I need to know what is the relations with the red eyes of the Dru folk and the trinkets... if you know it. And I also want to know if these people have any attachment to something in particular, these wild civilizations -as you describe them- and especially the narrow-minded ones always have somethings that they favor or worship. For example: here in Forochel, the Wolf-hide tribes tresured everything made out of silver, the dragons of old tresured the color and the texture of gold in every shape and size... So tell me Horudik, do the Dru folks have some weakeness regarding the red color, do they worship it? It may be the only thing that we need to know to retrive the ax, if its still with them."

The Empire of Coldvar:

In the dark of night, 7000 soldiers sit and wait. Their orders were not too attack until the enemy was in grabbing distance. 7000 soldiers in midnight armor. Waiting to strike, their weapons at the ready.

An army marching without a care in the world is seen approaching them. A loud noise is heard, and those 7000 in waiting. Would wait no longer.

******************************************

Emperor Nikolai is seen walking amongst the dead, his pitch black armor glistened in the mid day sun. The blood making his armor appear almost like oil.

Imperial soldiers with their black armor were carry bodies away from the battlefield. Burying the dead. Soldiers from both sides were given a proper burial. Orders from the Emperor.

General Elkins approached the Emperor, he still wore his helmet.

"Sir, the dead have been accounted for."

"How many?"

"Around 2000 sir. But, we succeeding in what we came to do. We have routed the enemy."

The Emperor looked over the bloody carnage.

"But, what did we achieve. We protected an ally, who probably could care less if we survive this war."

The General nodded.

"We did make allies with pirates and orcs, sir. They are not the best of company, but they fight like us."

"That they may do. Now, I want us to follow those retreating forces."

Elkins was silent for a moment.

"Sir, is that the best option? Should we really follow them into their own territory?"

"We are not following them. We are starting this war. I want you to send an official declaration of war to the Kingdom of Arthedain."

The General nods, and leaves.

A few hours later the Emperor has finished scrolls to the other nations.

"Emperor of Coldvar, for far too long we have waited for a chance to strike back at the Kingdom of Arthedain. All their glory is meaningless as all they did was on the backbone of the Etyangoldi Alliance. Cunning and scheming with the elves of Elvea-Falasse, we have only bad blood with them both.

Horudik felt embarassed. He did not want to be that dwarf that turned tail in the other direction when faced with danger. But he also did not want to see the sight of dwarf blood ever again.

"My king, I don't know much of the Druwaith folk. All I seen with my own two eyes is that they appear to be weak, lightly armored and wielding poisonous weaponry. They do seem to possess some mysterious powers, some for healing purposes, as I remember a Dru folk quickly healed one of my fellow dwarves when a column collapsed one time when we were mining, but I am most certain that they use their powers for other nefarious purposes. It's all in their eyes ... yes, they have red, glowing eyes! They put shivers at the back of my spine whenever I glanced at them, and I quickly learned not to look at them.

I am uncertain if the color red is their weakness as I saw them quickly stripping the pathways we mined of all that glowed and all that was gem, and later on I saw a few gathered in a circle, chanting some unknown words, with the gems atop a boiling cauldron; and then they drank that bizarre beverage, and then fall into a long sleep; but some quickly wake up, turn edgy and then scream and stumble and run away into the deep dark night; those, I haven't seen ever again. But those that wake up in the morning have their big dark-red eyes as if they stare right into your soul, or so you feel if you have a soul.

So they may have a weakness for all that shines ... or, rather, I don't know my King ... rather, they ... they use them for some mysterious incantations and rituals!"

Since the orcs took claim of that land, its fertility plummeted and the vineyards got burned. Ohh I would punish those orcs until the edge of the world! I am considering that the current iteration of the Roleplay will end at the end of update 20.

Of this and the past RP iterations, this one has been the longest and I feel that many things are possible to still happen. However, some players might have other responsbilities now that the summer has ended or they find themselves in a rut in the RP and subsequently might not fully enjoy the RP. That is why I'd rather stop the RP and even consider to start fresh (so that everyone gets a fair chance to develop their faction, with the experience they've gathered so far).

This is still up to discussion, especially if there are some loose ends that the players would like to wrap up.

If there is interest, we can prepare to do an other roleplay, starting fresh, and with, hopefully, additional people.

"Very well Horudik", said Dralvik a little discouraged: "... as I promised, I would like yo to stay in Forochel so I will offer you a position in the homesteads halls as a cook, you will be under the instructions of mess sergeant Rurik. It's up to you to decide, talk to my Steward Frulvik when you make up your mind on the matter."

Dralvik smiled at the maid and thanked her for the food. Immediately Dralvik looked at the bowls preparing for lunch when something caught his attention.

"Pardon me, what are this", Dralvik asked to the maid while pointing to a group of red glowing stones.

The maid looked at the small bowl and smiled: "those are red rock sugar, my lord. It's a sweet made out of sugar mainly it does not melt or stick to the touch, but I understand your amazement it seems like a granate, does'n t it?"

SOME WINDS IN THE AIR ... :

You can fight for Favouritism points by creating an army and giving it a destination; to attack a particular province the other faction owns. Any such decision must be clearly made in your In-Character post, (to distinguish this from a regular army attack against neighbouring factions).

If you attack Broken Tooth Tribe's territories you get +45 more Favouritism points per province taken from them.
If you want to attack Broken Tooth Tribe's territories but you are not bordering them, then your army that is sent towards their lands can move 2 ticks away towards them:
- irrespective of any other army orders you give in that update (so you still have a maximum movement of 3 ticks or one of 2 ticks and unlimited of 1 tick)
- irrespective of your diplomacy status with your neighbouring factions (you don't have to be allied/friends with and you don't have to wait 1 update whenever you cross a border into another faction's land; as long as they let you walk through their lands - you first have to discuss this).

If you attack Kingdom of Arthedain's territories you get +40 more Favouritism points per province taken from them.
If you want to attack Kingdom of Arthedain's territories but you are not bordering them, then your army that is sent towards their lands can move 2 ticks away towards them:
- irrespective of any other army orders you give in that update (so you still have a maximum movement of 3 ticks or one of 2 ticks and unlimited of 1 tick)
- irrespective of your diplomacy status with your neighbouring factions (you don't have to be allied/friends with and you don't have to wait 1 update whenever you cross a border into another faction's land; as long as they let you walk through their lands - you first have to discuss this).

If you attack Clan Frostbeard's territories you get +15 more Favouritism points per province taken from them.

If you attack The Defender's Fjord's territories you get +5 more Favouritism points per province taken from them.

Observations:

  • Any faction is able to take advantage of the above bonuses if they have less than the max number of provinces or if they attack other factions that have at least +2 more provinces than the number of provinces they currently own, irrelevant of the amount of provinces they have (so if you have 6 provinces you can attack only other factions that have 8+ provinces).

  • You will not be at war with the other faction if you do not share a border. Your army set to attack for Favouritism points must be clearly mentioned In-Character, as it will have a special army icon. You can only attack an enemy province at their borders, you can't attack their innermost province (and end up attacking any of their other provinces in the process).

  • You can move 1 or 2 ticks (provinces away) per update with this particular army, irrelevant of any other armies you have or army orders you give to your other armies. You can tranverse any faction borders instantly (without having to wait 1 turn on the other side of the border). However, you must ask permission from any faction your army will encounter in their march forward. If you do not get permission or your permission is denied then you will attack and fight for that province, it in turn turning neutral / barbarian afterwards.

  • If your army reaches the destination and it wins, then the remainder of your army returns to your capitol and the province will turn neutal and have as extra defenders half of your remainder army strength. If your army can not reach the destination, you can either disband it (and it'll return to your capitol just injured if its at most 4 provinces away from your faction's border or it'll return to your capitol injured and unable to move for 1 turn if its more than 4 provinces away from your faction's border) or send more troops as reinforcements to it (either as normal army movements if the army is close or as "another" favouritism army).

  • Other faction armies can merge with your army but they will get at maximum half of the bonuses you get (linearly depending on how many troops they send compared to your numbers) and they will fight with 50% forces. You must have either a Friendship or an Alliance with other factions for their armies to merge with your army. For merging, the friends armies must be in the same province as your attacking force.

  • Your army will lose 5% army strength numbers per turn for any turn it is not in your own provinces or your official allies provinces.

  • You do not lose any Favouritism points per update if you do not do anything else in the update (attack or be attacked).

  • If you've been the target of such an attack and at a later time you fight to take back the province (against the neutral army now residing there) and you win, you will get 7 more Favouritism points.

THE TALK FROM THE OLD UPDATE... :

Clan Frostbeard (message 1 of 4):

Dralvik couldn't believe his ears, Durin the Deathless. He was mute for a moment, while his eyes sparkled. The guest looked at Frulvik wondering was going on, Dralvik raised a finger and said: "Follow me".

The two confused dwarves had no idea why they were running through the halls, but they didn't care. They were trying to catch up with Dralvik. Suddenly the party reached the mighty gate of Khazâd-gund's Library. Dralvik passed the scholars that were greeting him, and the diferents artifacts, relics and large bones that were in display.

In a corner of the library the king reached an old tome, with the cover panels made out of darkstone and engraved with gold, a true masterpiece of old. Dralvik opened the tome with extreme caution and pass through the pages. He paused, and looked at Frulvik and Horudik.

"Is this what you saw young one?", said Dralvik while passing the tome to Horudik.

Horudik's eyes were glowing of joy when he lay his sight on the marvelous illustration. It had the same silver color and the inequivocant red and white pattern. He couldn't speak, he simply nooded.

The king's desire saturated his mind, there was nothing in the world except that axe. He looked at the tome again for landmarks, but to no avail.

Frulvik's eyes narrowed and smiling to himself said: "Such a potencial in this one, my lord. Imagine be the retriver of Durin's Axe... what an honor to your image and the fellow dwarves..."

Dralvik gazed at Frulvik, and said: "bite your tongue Frulvik!, I will handle this matter without your concern"

The king then looked at Horudik and said: "I will help you in this quest with every resource I can, within reasons.

As you might know, recently the Clan Frostbeard have ended a war that demand too must resources and time... and as a ruler I need to focus my mind in my people, and doing what its best for them... I can not accompany you in this quest, but I will help you nontheless... so please with the help of this scholars, draw a map of the valley east of the Misty Mountains, with all the details that you know of. It will help us come up with a plan...

In the mean time tell me the name of the Druwaith folk's leader cause I plan to open diplomatic relations with the Dru Folk. But firstly I will warn the trolls that their action won't go unseen and that they must stop hunting dwarves... Don't look at me like that, I'm just saying it outloud to remin it, young one. I will take care of those troll, don't worry.

So, when you are done with the map, I will send you with a party to Upper Rhudaur. My cousin Baldur will welcome you there. Wait until further instructions ... what you think? what do you need for this quest? "

Broken Tooth Tribe (message 1 of 1):

The Horde was all gathered together in a single province for the first time since the earliest days of this campaign – back in the days when the greatest worry for the orcs was a piddling little tribe of humans along their southern border. Now, a Dwarven Alliance was poised against them; the other great power in the realm was presently embarked on a crusade against them; dragons and pirates lay off to the west; and spies and scouts returning from beyond our newly-conquered province tell rumors of discovered treasures scrounged from deep within the earth.

But, with the assembled strength of the horde now massed so, the orc at its head felt flushed with its potential. He could drive onward, continuing the momentum of their recent conquest and pushing further into the lands of the Dru. Perhaps see about these rumors of treasure? However, just as enticing was the prospect of taking this now combined might and swinging north to counterattack the forces of the allied dwarves. How delicious it would be to strike back like a viper against the bumbling creature that has foolishly encroached upon its nest! They captured an unguarded frontier province; let’s see how they handle themselves against a true orc horde...

The Defender's Fjord (message 1 of 2):

In his palace in Withered Heath, King Alexius is deciding his next move. Rumors have come that the Empire of Coldvar is allying with the Orcs at his border. He had successfully captured Middle Rhovanion, with his ally, Tulin. He was brooding on his throne when a dwarf ran in, panting heavily, and keeling over. “My...King...huge army. Orcs. Coming.” Then he fainted. The King knelt down and touched the dwarf. “I thank you for bringing this information to me with the utmost speed. The King carries him to the a richly appointed room in his palace and laid him down on a couch. He told the dwarf sentry in the room, “Watch him, and when he wakes up, let him leave.” The soldier nodded. The King went back to his throne, and wrote a brief message for his Eastern garrison telling the commander of the situation. Then he sends it on his way, and he looks at the paintings of his ancestors, tracing the line, from the first King, to his father. “May it be enough.” He says.

Kingdom of Arthedain (message 1 of 1):

-- the dwarves of Foothills, that escaped from Ettenmoors, and had reached Clan Frostbeard -- (message 1 of 3):

Horudik was also quite inexperienced when it came to cartograph the land, so he scratched his head many a times when the king asked to draw for him a map. Nevertheless, he did not want to disappoint such a central figure in the kinship of dwarves so he laid out all that he knew to the dwarf scholars of Forochel;

Clan Frostbeard (message 2 of 4):

////////////////////////////////////////

-- the dwarves of Foothills, that escaped from Ettenmoors, and had reached Clan Frostbeard -- (message 2 of 3):

Trollshaw Realm (message 1 of 1):

Woodland Enclave (message 1 of 2):

The crowd cheered Tulin the brave, Tulin the brave, Tulin the brave!, after the victory in Middle Rhovanion. The dwarvish alliance made the first dent to the orcish horde, and this may be the beginning of the end of the orcs supremacy in these lands.

Finally ...

With the orcs preoccupied in Dagorlad, Tulin sent a message to his ally; "Where to next, brother? Shall we split and conquer or join forces and advance together? Or you'd rather wait here for more reinforcements?"

Clan Frostbeard (message 3 of 4):

The Defender's Fjord (message 2 of 2):

King Alexius knew what he had to do. He didn't want to do it, but he had to. For his men. For his people. For his nation. So as he walked into Tulin's tent, and Tulin saw the somberness etched on his face, he knew something was wrong. "Brother." He said. "What is our next move." King Alexius swallowed. "My scouts tell me that the Orcish Horde is done in Dagorlad is coming our way. Normally I would welcome such a choice, us leading our warriors into battle against the Orcish Horde. But their army is comprised of nearly 10000 Orcs. Even with every advantage we could muster, it would still not be enough. We must retreat north to Northern Rhovanion. To live to fight another day. We will meet our reinforcements there." King Alexius turned and left.

The Empire of Coldvar (message 1 of 1):

*****************************

A few hours later the Emperor has finished scrolls to the other nations.

To the Broken Tooth Tribe:

Dear Snicklefritz,
The army that was marching towards your province has been routed. They have broken apart and ran for their homes. We have sustained a good amount of casualties. But, your borders are safe for now.

Emperor Naves

To the Etyangoldi Alliance:

To whoever rules this nation,
Hello my neighbor. I have seen the trouble your nation has had, and seen what the Kingdom of Arthedain has done to your once grand country. I wish to travel through your nation with soldiers. I ask for safe travel through your lands. I have no ill will toward you or your people, so you are safe. But, the Kingdom of Arthedain has been unchallenged for too long. They destroyed your nation, and desecrated your lands.

Now you are a shadow of what you were.

Emperor Naves

To the Kingdom of Arthedain:

To the King of Arthedain,
My name is Emperor Nikolai Naves. This is the Empire of Coldvar.
And this is a formal declaration of war, against your nation.

Emperor Nikolai

The Emperor did not care for formalities, he just wanted to get his point across.

Etyangoldi Alliance (message 1 of 1):

The commander-in-arms of what remains of the Etyangoldi received a message from the Empire of Coldvar; A large smile was on his face, as the message within his hands may be meaning a rebirth of the glory of his realm.

Quickly, he dispatched an envoy with a message back:
"Emperor of Coldvar, for far too long we have waited for a chance to strike back at the Kingdom of Arthedain. All their glory is meaningless as all they did was on the backbone of the Etyangoldi Alliance. Cunning and scheming with the elves of Elvea-Falasse, we have only bad blood with them both.

For that matter, we pledge help to you and to your cause; we agree to a friendship pact, so that you can move safely through our lands. When we get more soldiers we plan to also help, if you so need help."

-- the dwarves of Foothills, that escaped from Ettenmoors, and had reached Clan Frostbeard -- (message 3 of 3):

So they may have a weakness for all that shines ... or, rather, I don't know my King ... rather, they ... they use them for some mysterious incantations and rituals!"

.

Woodland Enclave (message 2 of 2):

Tulin listened to his brother-in-arms, the King of the Dwarves of Withered Heath. His own warlike persona displeased the decision of his ally; why run away from the orcs? No, Tulin wanted a taste of danger.

"You do as you wish, but rather than running away, why not move and take more land from these orcs? You remember one time when the orcs claimed to take Dorwinion 'without any reason to attack'? Heh! The dwarves of the Lonely Mountain and of Iron Hills miss the wines of Dorwinion!

Since the orcs took claim of that land, its fertility plummeted and the vineyards got burned. Ohh I would punish those orcs until the edge of the world! You can retreat your troops but we march to Eastern Rhovanion or Dorwinion; The orcs can not catch us there, even if they are en route to fight for this land. And with any luck, we'll in striking distance of their capitol!"

The Woodland Enclave is not retreating; they plan to attack either Eastern Rhovanion or Dorwinion

Clan Frostbeard (message 4 of 4):

"Very well Horudik", said Dralvik a little discouraged: "... as I promised, I would like yo to stay in Forochel so I will offer you a position in the homesteads halls as a cook, you will be under the instructions of mess sergeant Rurik. It's up to you to decide, talk to my Steward Frulvik when you make up your mind on the matter."

The king greeted Horudik and the scholars, left the Library, and returned to the throne chamber. There, sitting in his stone chair, Dralvik kept moving a small sample of the ore mined in the Forochel mines as he watched the war-table.

His thought was interrupted by a knock on the door announcing the arrival of his lunch. A maid entered the room, bowed, and set down a beautiful granite tray filled with various food bowls.

"Aye, this are sweets then?", Dralvik said and took one little chunk, he was amaze by the looked of it looked like a topaz, a ruby, a rhodolite or even a fire opal. He was truly impress, and then and idea pop up in his mind. The king smiled and said "I will reserve this as dessert then, thank you". The maid nodded and left the chamber.

As he was having lunch, Dralvik wrote down a message to the leader of the Dru folk.

Although we do not know each other, I understand that you established a relationship of friendship with your folk and my ally dwarven-kingdom ruled by my friend King Alexius Comnenus.

The matter of this message, is that it has come to my knoledge that recenly a group of dwarves were employed by your kin to work in a mine exploration near a holy site for all the dwarves across the land. Please do not misunderstand me; I do not want to challenge you or reproach you for digging in holy land.

But I know that your company gatherer some artifacts that are important to my kin, expecially an axe head. I would like that axe to be returned to the dwarves as it our right.

As we have a long tradition with trading, I would like to offer you some goods in return for the axe. This ores can be used in you folk rituals, as far as I know. In the sample bag you will find the ores, do with them as you pleased. But please let me know if we can reach to an agreement and I will send a lot more.

I would not like to have to take other action if I find out that the axe head has been damaged.

Clan Frostbeard:

After only a short time in Forochel, the garrisons were well armed fell in with the remaining divisions, meant to move to the bordes if any imprudently action form the trolls fell upon dwarven soil.

The high commander Toremrouk, suggested to King Dralvik that the divitions be placed as soon a possible to supporter the border.

As Dralvik recived the replied message of Torogok, warchief of the Trollshaw Realm, that he will take care of the scolded trolls that rambled across the border and at the same time some reports of Baldur, were informing an increase of the trolls troops. Dralvik was appalled. He was walking in the throneroom trying to figure what to do about it, torn between Torogok's word and his cousin's.

In the end, he knew that blood was thicker than water. Be loyal to the his kin prevailed over the troll's word once again, and he approached the Commander's house, revealing his dilemma. Toremrouk listened to his tale and suggested to send some herd of tamed boars guarded by the garrisons to Ettenmoors and see what happen. He was sure that if the trolls saw the tribute with good eyes they will no became hostile towards the southerns regions;
Dralvik approved the old commander's plan.

The next day at Khazâd-gund, the folks cheered and wished good well to the parting soldiers headed by commander Toremrouk. The King saluted the troops as the marched, he was sorrowful as he watched the army fade in the distance.

Dralvik's face showed both concern and pain, since added to his concerns, the trolls, the Dru's response yet to come and the welfare if his people. He couldn't help but wince while waving at the departing troops, and touch his right side, the wound that he had received long ago in Angmar was bleeding once again.

Woodland Enclave

Taking control of the vineyards of Dorwinion, Tulin Ironflow spent many days in a drunken haze. He is mentioned to have said something along the lines of "where there's hard work to be done, there's a harder drink waiting at the end". After many kegs, and after hearing of the Broken Tribe orcs approach from Horse Plains and from Middle Rhovanion, Tulin was all but ready to ride to battle against overwhelming odds and his retainers had to strap him to a horse and lead him away.

The whole army in Dorwinion are moving back to the more secure plains of Iron Hills, while the army located in the forests of Western Mirkwood are to move to the Heart of Mirkwood.

Corsairs of Umbar

The Corsairs were careful enough not to forget taking their tributes from the Empire and from the Broken Tooth tribe. They needed them, as the Corsairs were planning to dethrone the king of Rohan.

After spies have returned to Angamaith with information about the layout of the land and the defending forces of the castle in Rohan, he soon determined that his force is sufficient for this mammoth of a task. Angamaith needed no additional help, he yet again goes against an other faction of the land to erradicate it; while other faction leaders keep exchanging pleasantries he goes with both hammer and anvil and solves the matter by force.

Commander Angamaith felt that it was the just way to conduct business, and was slightly displeased with the way his allies go about in the back-and-forth games with their preys. He sent forth a message to his two allies:

"Allies, the steward of Rohan was very unresponsive to my measly demands. Little did I know at that time, but I have since found out, that he is backed by an imposing standing army of roughly 6500 troops, give or take how many are defending the walls and posts of his castle.

Nonetheless, I am prepared to match his 6500 troops with my own hard-trained soldiers, and, incidentally, with some of your own that you so welcomly volunteered to offer to me to train!

Soon enough I will finish with the scare of Rohan and I can move to greener pastures. My question is, any of you have any need of me and my soldiers? Obviously that is going to cost you, but among friends we can definitely work something out ..."

Trollshaw Realms

Torogok received the offer of a herd of tamed boards from the dwarves of Forochel with open arms. Obviously, arms as open as suspiciously possible, considering that Torogok's scouts reported a significant dwarf-army moving in the shadows behind the boar gift.

The troll was uneasy as much as he was divided. The hardships of his past come to haunt him yet again, while his grip of the Trollshaws diminishes and the menace of the North increases. Torogok calculated that the dwarves will soon have enough strength to mount an assault on the Ettenmoors, and that their most recent gifts are just to soften the trolls. With that in mind, a message is to be sent to the Clan Frostbeard.

"Thank you for your gifts in nature. We the trolls of Ettenmoors appreciate them and will use them, guaranteed. Making amends for past transgressions is a noble path for a dwarf of the icy mountains, although the trolls of Ettenmoors are uneasy after hearing the news that a huge dwarf army is amassing in Upper Rhudaur.

Do you know anything of this? Should we prepare ourselves for a future conflict, or, rather, simply return your boars if you have other ideas for the future relations among our lands?"

Torogok looked at the herd of tamed boars. "For food?" He questioned himself. "If they're tamed, they could as well be mounted.". And then an other idea came to his mind; something that involved boars, barrels, black powder, a fuse, and, obviously, the element of surprise.

Send a message to the Clan Frostbeard, thanking for the gift and inquiring about the army amassing in Upper Rhudaur.

Kingdom of Arthedain

Conflict was brewing. Soon enough, the army of the Empire of Coldvar is to reach the lands of the Kingdom of Arthedain. After the last engagement between the two, King Minyatur recognized the prowess of the soldiers of Coldvar, and their impetuosity in battle.

The king was unsure if King Naves was personally in the battle in Nan Curunir, as the Empire's king is famous for his skill on the battlefield and few can hope to match him in single combat; if he was, then the army of Arthedain certainly stood no chance;

There was also the question of where the Empire plans to strike; And with the elves of Elvea-Falasse unresponsive for a significant amount of time, the only friendship King Minyatur has is the one with the dwarf up the mountains. Before confronting the Empire, the Kingdom of Arthedain was counting on what outside support they can get for the battle that is to come;

"King Dralvik of Clan Frostbeard,

My message to you comes today as the Men armies of the Empire of Coldvar are marching on my lands, after declaring war on me. King Naves of the Empire is pushing to increase his dominion, and he is rumored to be extremely dangerous; talk of his red eyes and violent stare is common among the people of Enedhwaith, around the times when we shared a border with them.

Could I count on your support in pushing back this imperialistic wannabe?"

Druwaith Folk

Garahir of the Dru received a curious message, accompanied by gifts, from a king of dwarves. "Of Khazâd-gund? Where is this Khazâd-gund? In the distant North? Oh, in Forochel?"

Garahir took the gifts and further analyzed them. They were quite interesting and new to the Dru king. He then brought one to his nose, gently smelling it, then tasting it with the tip of his tongue. He then looked at it with suspicious eyes, as if there was something hidden inside the ore. Couldn't explain the taste ....

Garahir continued to read the letter from King Dralvik II. There was talk of an old matter, of a party of dwarves commisioned to do some work ... something they swore secrecy to. He was displeased; are dwarves not to be trusted any longer with oaths of silence? If he knew the dwarves couldn't keep their mouths shut then he could have terminated them on the spot! But no, the Druwaith keep and keep and keep on trusting others ... the Druwaith never learn.

Garahir wrote a message to be sent to the king of Clan Frostbeard.
"The Druwaith Folk than you for your message and for your most gracious gifts. The rest of your message, however, is shrouded in a darker tint and I'd rather address it right now.

It is most unfortunate that the dwarves you speak of have not kept their mouths shut, as they have been paid hefty for their silence regarding what they have seen. Now, as the deed is done, I hope that we can at least keep the matter among ourselves.

You may or may not know, but a recent series of disasters threaten the Dru with extinction. We were pushed back from our lands by an union of men and other races from beyond the seas and the orc scum that live around Gorgoroth, Nurn and the Horse Plains. In the course of searching for answers to our current dillema, as well as a safe refuge to our people, one of our scholars recalled the legend of Roon-buri-Run settlement.

It is an old legend of our folk, Roon-buri-Run being a female sorceress and a high scholar, one of the last ones that still knew how to interpret the primordial language of the Dru, since the years of the beginnings of our race. She was the queen of the Dru for many years, until an evil lord assumed control and pushed her away. She, and a few followers, ran and hid in caves away from the eyes of the remaining Dru; there, they built a mage workshop, a ceremonial center and many other wonderful and mysterious matters I'd rather not discuss about; the main point to take from the legend is that they spent the rest of their years in secluded isolation.

By chance, we stumbled upon old writings regarding the whereabouts of the ancient ceremonial center. The Dru assigned to dwelve into it and unlock its secrets arrived long before your dwarves, and, predictably, they accomplished very little up to that point.

Attempting to keep a low profile, our Dru folk slowly moved out of Ithilien and the lands beyond, and we made no push to reclaim our lost lands - as we were trying to establish a base around the new source of power towards the Misty Mountains; we paid the dwarves to mine the entrance of the cave. We are unsure of the back-history of that place, but we know that our folk need the halls as a sanctuary, and the treasures left by our exiled ancestors remain hallowed Dru property."

----
The Druwaith Folk replied to Clan Frostbeard, saying that all treasures left behind are hallowed Dru property.

The Clan Frostbeard: At the Ironbreakers settlement in Upper Rhudaur.

It seemed as if Upper Rhudaur had always housed the dwarves of the Blue Mountains, the legions of Iron-Breakers under the command of Baldur had made an incredible advance settleing up the place, the houses of course had the typical strong sharp patterns of the Western mountains, combined with the mixed colours of iron and red, typical colour of the soldiers from Forochel, and gold and blue, those colours typical of the Blue mountains. It was a beautiful surprise to the eyes of a veteran dwarf like Toremrouk, upon reaching his destination.

"King Dralvik and Thane Nrulvim will be stunnig to see this place Baldur!, you truly contribute to unite this folks", said Toremrouk closing the shutter behind him: "But before showing me around I got something for you... please, take a sit".

Baldur nooded, the High commander took out a map, and both dwarves discussed the matter on Durin's Axe for a while and discuss Dralvik's further plan.

At night-time, commander Baldur and his lieutenants were around a campfire talking about their respectibe adventures and travels.

"Aye... I used to be a miner, as was my father before me, a common laborer in the mines of Mount Dolmer..." said one of the dwarves while combing his bright red beard and hoisting a mug of ale : "...the work was honorable but paid poorly, I was still a lad back then, so I could apply for enlist myself in the Iron-Breakers... best job I ever had". The rest of the group nooded and agreed whit these last statment.

After a silent moment one of the youngest dwarf asked to Baldur: "Sorry for the daring Baldur, but what is the story of Dralvik? Why is he so withdrawn and you are so happy? Being both of the same blood. No intention of offending you of course"

The group made an alarm noise as if the question was offensive, but Baldur calmed them down and responded: "it's alright lads, its alright... hes from the Blue Mountains he does not know the tale...". Baldur settled into his seat and said: "In my first years, there was great rejoicing in Forochel - a lad - had been born to King Drolvuk Frozenhelm and the Ice Lady. A king, the folk sang, a king is born to us! For among the dwarves of Forochel, the birth of an heir is a sure sign of future prosperity.

When the time came round for the Dralvik's rite of hunting the Bronze-Scaled Whale. Father and son embarqued in a skiff, at the docks of the nearly new city of Khazâd-gund. I remeber that cause I rushed straight home and tell my oldlady ", Baldur made a paused and breathing deeply he continued: "it is said that the hunting went well for Dralvik and his father at first... but then only the a skiff and chunks of wood returned to the docks... father and son were missing.

Toremrouk's party scouted around the Ice bay looking for the corpses, but instead they found King Drolvuk's body and Dralvik surrounded by a large group of Wolf-hides. They said that Dralvik's eyes reflected a mind not enteraly of his own as his weapon crush every Wolf-hide standing near by...
the smile and his sensitivity that had been so characteristic in his childhood, was lost that day... the loss of his father marked him deeply. Dralvik always blamed himself for the loss of his father, he became more withdrawn and thoughtful... but don't let his appearance fool you, my cousin is still in an internal struggle with his feelings, between being and showing... between feeling and thinking... that's why he is a great leader in my eyes and a wise one."
, Baldur finished his drink.

The group fell silent, thinking about Dralvik's story, feeling empathy for the loss of a loved one, something they all shared.

Baldur felt some discomfort in the group, as each of the members thought of their loved ones.

"But cheer up lads!, here's something you might like", Baldur pulled out a map with the Khazâd-gund library stamp from his clothes: "This is a big one... I need volunteers to look for what appears to be the axe of Durin... Aye, aye I know, I know... It has been checked by the scholars. My cousin got the news a couple of days ago and he sent me the map where the relic was discovered. Currently the Dru have the axe, Dralvik has started diplomatic relations. But we need people inside in case diplomacy fails. The group will go undercover and without support or recognition from the Clan Frostbeard as a precaution. The designated path is from Rhudaur, through Redgorn Gate and reach Foothills. Once there we will wait for instructions. Anyones with me?... that what I though. Any questions?".

"Aye, I got one Baldur...", said the dwarf to Baldur's left while looking around: "Who's gonna take the lead of the Iron-Breakers?".

"High Commander Toremrouk will take the lead, he already gave me the orders so we must hastle... pack today as common miners and merchants we will part tommorow at dawn..."

The King was still worried about his dream, a premonition maybe. The thought of the returned of King Curufinwe Fallenstar was a concern to Dralvik, but his elve-friend Cirdan did not respond to his message. Maybe his friend was struggling in the south against the remaining forces of the Etyangoldi Alliance, but yet again this was a mystery to Dralvik.

Some one knocked at the door and Frulvik entered the chamber and was thrusting forth a scroll. Dralvik thanked the steward, and opened it up. It was not signed but by the poor penmanship and overall unprofessional tone, it was manifestly evident who the writer was. Warchief Torogok, of the Trollshaw Realms. The king sent a proper response to that message.

Warchief,

Before jumpying to accusation or to increase further conflict . I must incist that I plan to amends for past transgressions.

Things have only just calm down, and there s a lot that needs to be rebuilt an to built in Upper Rhudaur.

Now we have got more business on the land and settlements. So, we have to ensure our labours, miners and woodcutters safety. I trust your word that you will take care of the scolded trolls that rambled across the borde of our two realms, but to show support to my folk I need somone with some clout, someone respected among the Frostbeards. That somone is High Commander Toremrouk, my friend and former tutor. To doing so He was deployed to Upper Rhudaur and guarded the herd of boars that was sent to you too.

Calm your mind and enjoy the boars as it pleases you and your kin. Further more if it help in any way I like to propose a non-aggression pact between Ettenmoors and Upper Rhudaur.

King Dralvik

After finishing his tasks, the king went to the mines to check the works carried out there and help the gem cutters.

Another night passed, and the king could not sleep. It was almost a curse. His eyes showed lack of sleep, and his shoulders pulled forward, showed the burden that the king was carrying.

In frustration born of fatigue and exhaustion, he struck the war-table. A sudden cloud of gold and gems covered the chamber and make it appear as rain when the coins fell down, spreading to every nook. He stomped back to his desk and opened up the sealded scroll left there by Steward Frulvik. The responding message of the Dru folk, unsurprisingly was displeasing to the king. But he was counting on it, as Dralvik's plans to retrieve the relics were sure on the move.

Dralvik shattered the message, and fell faint from fatigue on the desk scorched by the darkness of the bedroom.

Broken Tooth Tribe

The combined force of the gathered horde descended on Middle Rhovanion and split the Dwarven forces, scattering them into separate provinces. The victorious orcs had begun looting the enemy camps and dispatching captured soldiers, but Snicklefritz had other plans. Assembling the necessary captains and bosses, the orc chieftain addressed them with the next battle plan.

We cannot afford to devolve into looting and squabbling. We are going to press our advantage. With the momentum of this victory, and the support of reinforcements from the capitol, our next step will be a pincer movement against the Woodland Enclave dwarves in Dorwinion. With that province recaptured, and the size of our horde swollen with troops from the capitol, we will rampage through the Dwarven lands. If we keep the horde intact and moving, the dwarves will be kept off-balance and disunited. We’ll have free rein of their territories. The battles will be endless and always in our favor!

A cry went up from the captains and surrounding orcs. Snicklfritz smiled a toothy smile, anticipating the future conquests.

A wolf rider was waiting patiently in the wings during this speech, and the chieftain called him over.

Message from the corsairs, chief.”

Snicklefritz snorted. “Eh, and I can guess its contents. Those thuggish pirates are prompt about their tribute. But, we cannot afford to upset them. They control our entire western flank, and the troops we lose to them in tribute would pale in number to those necessitated by its defense.”

Opening the letter and looking it over, the orc chieftain nodded with a lack of surprise. “Tell the corsairs that we are embroiled in northern wars with the dwarves. It is doubtful they can aid, much, as their provinces are far removed. However, their keeping occupied Rohan and Druwaith is help enough. Now, take this message along with the tribute forces we owe and escort them to the corsairs.

Snicklefritz saw the rider off, and turned his attention to his assembling forces. He could see the spewing smoke clouds from his engines of war, and the ground trembled with thousands of marching orc boots. Soon enough, these dwarves would be on their knees, begging us ‘low’ orcs for peace. Soon, they would be pleading for our war machines to cease throwing fire into their lines. Soon, they would recognize an orc as their superior.
