Yeah I had sort of thought about Aule making the dwarves to look like other things he knew (I.e the other valar). I guess the problem with this is that they were his creation and that there is no reason to assume he said to himself something like "Yeah, I want these creatures to look like so and so". If so, why wouldn't he have made them beautiful and based them on Varda (unless he did and Varda has a beard)?
More problems arise when considering the Ents: I assume Yavanna does not look like an Ent. But, perhaps she based them on trees, something she knew.
Another problem is that I am not sure if the Valar have permanent forms? From what I understand they can change forms. The solution to this problem, that the valar do not have real/permanent forms to base things on, is that the dwarves must have been based on how Aule pictures his soul: bearded and stocky. Or perhaps not...

Concerning giving a part of their fire away, I am not sure that they can give it to non-living beings. Morgoth corrupted wild things, elves, wolves, etc to create his "life". He took something that was alive and gave it "evil"; he never created anything sentient. Aule did not create the dwarves out of living material. It's supposed to be out of the earth, right? So at the time when Eru first sees the dwarves, they are lifeless because they are inanimate material that Aule somehow fashioned to follow his thought or whatever. Aule is not capable of making them sentient, only Eru is.
Aside from the dwarves and ents, do any of the Valar create life outside of the Ainulindale? Where the plants and eagles not created then, with the guidance and consent of Eru?

Greetings and salutations!

Always nice to see new friends around. Hope that you enjoy your stay.

Regarding the embassy requests, I would like to let Cape of Good Hope know that these usually take a great deal of time and some diplomacy, just because it is very hard to get all of these ents to talk and agree on a subject!

Understood! I will like to hope that the ents find the Cape worthy of embassy relations

To further comment on this particular topic, the general consensus in our region is that we'd like our embassies to be with other regions that have in-theme names and that have at least a little bit of history behind them. We also have a few regions that we're official friends with, but that comes after a deal of bilateral interactions and support, with nations from them residing in our region and interacting with us and building friendships (take for example the regions 10000 Islands and Hell). There are a few other regions that are "in the works" so to say, that already have friends here and work towards building an official relation, but, as I previously, said, even for them these actions take time.

So, for the particular case of Cape of Good Hope, while there is no denying that the Cape is an active, flourishing region, definitely worthy, as it is not in-theme-related it falls into the other category of relations that have to be built at a slow pace. This deters many others and might deter the Cape from pursuing this. Either way, I felt that I had to write this so that things are clear, for you and for other regions that would like to build friendships with us.

For example in The Scouring of the Shire, rules are reduced but not abolished. The mayor returns to a mostly but not entirely ornamental function. There are still shiriffs, but fewer and with fewer powers. Not anarchy, just reducing the state.

In the upper rooms were little rows of hard beds, and on every wall there was a notice and a list of Rules. Pippin tore them down.

'All right, all right!' said Sam. 'That's quite enough. I don't want to hear no more. No welcome, no beer, no smoke, and a lot of rules and orc-talk instead.

Frodo agreed to act as his Deputy, until Mr. Whitfoot was in shape again. The only thing that he did as Deputy Mayor was to reduce the Shirriffs to their proper functions and numbers.

dear old Will Whitfoot had another seven years of presiding at Banquets.

What does 'unconstitutional' monarchy refer to? Monarchy without a constitution? A monarch who is bound by no human rights, no checks and balances? One just sort of hopes that... every monarch turns out to be a good egg? Doesn't even work in a fantasy world. Théoden is a good egg, and look what Saruman & Gríma do to him without any system in place keeping checks.

I will communicate this to the WA Delegate in the Cape! Personally (remember this is a puppet you are talking to, so I'm sorry for the dely) I am patient enough to get the relationship right before we can begin Embassy construction!

Well, your nation name is intiguing and may even be in-theme with the most recent (above) discussion regarding the politics in Middle Earth, including Theoden in Rohan.

So the question is, what would an "Independent Rohan" mean? Independent as in isolated, as in without a monarchy, as in ?

Ok, so... In the lore I've crafted for my main nation, United states of gondor (which is loosely based off of Tolkien's lore, I took a few liberties) part of Rohan has become a state in Gondor, the other part is semi-independent, but basically influenced by the U.S.G. hence the name "Independent Rohan"

I don't know the context of that letter, but I'd guess Tolkien was feeling pretty overwhelmed by the events of the age. He was born in the late 19th century, and he wrote that amidst WWII. The world had been through so very much.

Those two positions he lays out -- an "anarchy" which sounds to me closer to our libertarianism, and what he likely hopes to be an enlightened monarchy -- lie on two ends of a pole, the extremes of which are often very attractive to folks during periods of upheaval. Both positions find, if not popular than at least vocal, support today. To throw off absolutely any and all power that may be restraining you and the progress of the world; and to exercise absolute power over everyone who you see as holding back your rights and the progress of the world.

It can be found in the Unfinished Tales book, in the section "Cirion and Eorl and the Friendship of Gondor and Rohan"

And in other resources online. Basically, the Oath of Eorl is an alliance between Rohan and Gondor, establishing the kingdom of Rohan. The kingdom of Gondor precedes the kingdom of Rohan, and the first steward of Rohan was the ruler of a group of men also called Eothed who were living somewhere more to the North-East, around Northern Rhovanion. They were roaming the plains and lived by breeding horses; they didnt have a kingdom of their own. At one time, Gondor was attacked from many directions, and the King of Gondor sent word to the Eothed folk to help, and they came to help with their horses and decisively won the fight as the enemy did not expect them and their powerful charge. So as a token of appreciation, the King of Gondor gave the plains north of Gondor, ie, Rohan, to the Eothed (under King Eorl) and it became their kingdom. In return, Eorl pledged eternal friendship and together they had this alliance and mutual help whenever in trouble.

The events of this are around 500 years prior to the events in the LOTR books and the War of the Ring, culminating with the destruction of the One Ring. It was renewed during the War of the Ring when Gondor asked for help from Rohan when Sauron attacked Minas Tirith (lighting the beacons etc) and Rohan came with their army of horsemen to the rescue.

I remember this now! Primarily because of the movie scene (I'm sorry! I only remember 'The Beacons are Lit! And Rohan shall answer' scene in the movie)

Anyways, to answer the original question, Lindon-rivendell, I believe the way the relationship between Independent Rohan and U.S.G. is set up, it's very similar to the Oath of Eorl but different. In my personal countries lore, a civil war was fought, the United States of Gondor emerged, with some portions of Rohan joining, the remaining portion of Rohan was asked if they wanted to join as well. But Rohan said, "No, we're good. But we'll remain friends" So the part of Rohan that remained independent became known as Independent Rohan, to separate it from the State of Rohan in the U.S.G.

I really haven't thought about this

Also, for future reference, I prefer she/her pronouns... (That's the personal thing I was discussing)
