Xin Prussia wrote:Most Western analysis of China is incredibly one-sided and uninteresting, even from "high-level" think tanks, so I'm not very surprised. They start from the anthropological standpoint of analyzing a failed society, and so all results they provide will always merely exist to supplement this conclusion. A good example is the "Shanghai-ology" group of economists who rather than admitting that Milton Friedman might have been wrong, have invented a nation-level conspiracy that China is artificially boosting Shanghai's growth numbers because they're not in line with their economic concepts.

A lot of concepts you'll learn are very orientalist in nature. "China is obsessed with legitimacy...", "The Mandate of Heaven goes back thousands of years...", "The Chinese are obsessed with the Century of Humiliation". Western analysts have been heralding the collapse of the CPC regime since its inception, it has now been sixty years. China leads the world in EV adoption, it has one of best developed high speed rail systems in the world, its public transit system is almost entirely built on electric sources, and despite the claims of it only being focused on economic growth, it's actually very difficult to get a car in cities like Beijing or Shanghai precisely because the government is trying to reduce auto congestion. There's a lot to criticize about the CPC, but this one reads very shallow and hypocritical, especially compared to countries like the US or Australia.

If you'd like to learn more I could suggest you look into Shanghai's license plate auction system and the adoption of EV in public transit.

Interesting, to say the least

Definitely interested in getting a more "contrarian" perspective on China. Would be interested in hearing more.

To think the Kinect was just an advanced Wii sensor bar and it couldn't even do it right.

Pathetic.

So I explicitly told my Sargent not to give me basic dates until very late June since I have a school trip to Europe planned mid-June. But what do they do?

Give me basic dates from 5/27-6/24.

Here is actual good criticism of the CCP levied at a non-anthropological lens.

The military has a near perfect ability to give you the opposite of what you want. In my case:

- Oh you have one of the highest GT scores here? Oh youíre gonna be a radio operator and that one ASVAB waiver is going to data school.
- Oh youre literally the one guy in the Marine Corps that WANTS Camp Lejeune? Enjoy the worst unit on Okinawa bitch.
- Oh you already have a set date you already passed to us to have your stuff moved stateside to your next unit? Welp you have duty that day now instead so reschedule even though you canít

Ya know, maybe the world is in need of a little malarkey. Just sayin'.

I really hope Hunter Biden is active in his dad's campaign. that would make it more amusing.

Kinda in a "booting up City Folk on the Wii for the first time in 8 years" sorta mood rn.

That was a cool $500 Million well spent, Bloomberg.
