Hey all, Gonhog here. As I'm running for speaker, I think it'd be remiss of me to not at least say a few words about what I want to do.

With the IDUSA being the main legislative body of the IDU, I think we should encourage heavier use of it. In the past year or two it's been rarely used. Encouraging further use of it to amend and submit law will encourage regional activity. Working with the IDUSA to pass laws regarding map claims and expansion will allow people to voice their opinions on how the region should grow going into the future.

I think that by better utilizing the IDUSA, we can promote regional activity and growth. That's all.

Yeah, IDUSA isn't going to have anything to do with the map.

Sanctaria is the regional cartographer. It's up to him to decide what is feasible when it comes to the map, it's not the IDUSA's department. The current rules regarding puppets are there to make sure that it's fair and that there is room on the map for new players.

Hello all. This is my platform post for speaker of the IDUSA.

Qualifications

Firsts things first, I have been doing NS for quite a while. I have also been in the IDU for quite some time and understand its inner workings and the community itself quite well.

I have also been for in the IDUSA since pretty much the beginning of my time in the IDU and I am always active in the IDUSA’s proceedings. I have voted (and taken part in the discussion leading up to the vote) for every piece of legislation since my joining.

I am also just generally very active in the NS community and in the IDU. I take part in RP’s, vote in the WA, and even have a submitted issue that is somewhere in the editing queue.

Speaker

With that said, you don’t vote for someone purely off their qualifications and you shouldn’t in this case. There are also some direct things I intend to accomplish as Speaker.

Legislation
We have all of 3 pieces of legislation passed since I joined and they were all by the same author. This is a clear indicator that we are lacking in participation.

There is so much ground to cover with legislation and I think the best thing for us to do is to jump right into it.

If elected Speaker I would highly encourage individuals to create new legislation and would also do frequent and extensive searches of the IDU (in general) to see what could make good legislation material before releasing this to the rest of the IDUSA.

I hope that, along with more encouragement to draft legislation, should increase the vitality of the IDUSA.

Active
I also will do my darnedest to be as active as possible to help new drafters, check in with members, make comments on legislation, and accept new members into the IDUSA.

To see all of this come to pass, however, I need your vote! Please, when voting comes around,
Vote Libertas Omnium Maximus for IDUSA Speaker

Hi everyone! I’m Christos and I’m running for IDUSA Speaker.

Here are my qualifications. I’ve been playing NationStates for a while as The Chris Empire before I changed my nation to Christos. I’ve also been part of the regional government of Atlantic for a brief time. In the IDU I have also done my best to participate in all aspects from the RP’s to the IDUSA voting to even trying to get an issue created.

So now on to the things I would do if elected. One of the things I would like to work on if elected Speaker is participation. I’ve been looking through the many laws and charters of IDU and have found some legislation that has been voted on has not been updated in certain places. I feel that this could be fixed if more members, mostly new, participated more on both the forums, the NS page, and the wiki page. Having more eyes on things helps.

Another thing that I would like to work on is a better way to help new nations navigate the IDU and all its sites. I feel that new members do not know how to navigate the off-site forum and if elected I would start making a comprehensive factbook/ guide to help new members navigate around the forum, the wiki, and the IDU NS page with the help of other members of the IDU. In all honesty I’m still trying to navigate through all the IDU sites as well but I do feel like I'm understanding things more and more each day.

Thank you for listening/ reading my platform and I hope you vote for me as the next IDUSA Speaker!
Let’s make sure that everyone knows that they have a voice in the IDUSA.

Christos for Speaker!!

I'd be interested in finding out where passed legislation hasn't been updated tbh. All passed legislation is on the laws page on the forum.

Delayed (sorry - I was sick!) but the voting is open for Speaker: https://theidu.us/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=2001

Welcome back, Soutelatopia!

As much as I enjoy your company, Libertas Omnium Maximus, you already have an official position in the IDU as Co-Culture Minister. I feel that we should distribute the power as evenly as possible, in order to ensure the most democratic control of the region. I also respect Christos, but he admits that he’s still learning his way around the IDU. Therefore, I will be voting for Gonhog as Speaker of the IDUSA.

I just wanted to clear up my rationale in voting. I hope there are no hard feelings. I admire the courage of everyone who put himself forth as a candidate.

Question, is the voting restricted to a group of countries? Just wanted to know, as I can't post a reply (can do so in other topics though). Thanks in advance.

It's left to members of the IDUSA. If you aren't a member, you are unable to vote. You can always apply to be a member of the IDUSA, and our Speaker decides whether you become a member.

If you wish to join the IDUSA, I'll provide the link here:

I respect your decision, of course, but will say that I believe I am more than capable of carrying out both roles. Having multiple roles within the regional government is certainly not unheard of. If I didn’t think I was capable, I never would have run. I care for the IDU too much for anything like that.

With that said, as I said, I obviously respect your decision and there are certainly no hard feelings. Vote for who you think will make the best speaker. I would never say otherwise. Thanks for casting your ballot.

We are in a bit of a transitional phase right now but if you want to submit your application via Zam’s link the new Speaker, whoever it may be, will probably get you accepted shortly after the elections conclude and the position is transferred.

Applying now will also ensure that you'll be able to vote on legislation for the IDU. It's good to be involved there.

Good news!

“Hrarroom!” (= “Greetings”), and a hearty "Welcome to the IDU", for Great manistee.

As Co-Culture Minister alongside Libertas Omnium Maximus, I would like to highlight some exciting and interesting things that are ongoing in our beloved IDU. The reason for posting these is to encourage fellow nations who have an interest in participating on the forums, in some capacity or another. It would be great to see more involvement from our awesome community!

1. Truth and Reconciliation Commission: https://theidu.us/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1910

An entertaining and highly detailed "Truth and Reconciliation Commission" underway and nearing a conclusion, following the RP of the Second Lauchenoirian Civil War last summer. The TRC Trials are the processes of hearing testimonies and sentences for people charged with war crimes during the conflict, and it provides a unique insight into legalistic and judicial systems in the IDU. This particular RP is limited to the nations who were directly involved in the war, however (I.E.: Zamastan cannot participate), but it is nonetheless a source of intrigue to watch unfold. For anyone interested in judicial aspects of nationbuilding, this RP is a great point of inspiration.

Key Members: Lauchenoiria, Sanctaria, Laeral, Kvask, Libertas Omnium Maximus.

2. The IDU Newswire: https://theidu.us/forum/viewforum.php?f=13

The site of individual nation's newspapers and updates, this section is one of my personal favorites. Here, you can see the most recent stories coming from nations regarding a variety of topics, domestic and international. Recently, new additions in the forms of political transcripts and the insights of world leaders can be read through to get a sense of the diversity on display in the IDU's individualistic forms of writing. A nation that I would like to commend for their work in this arena is Xiomera. Fresh and new to the IDU, he has utilized this section of the forum to craft a unique story for one of the most interesting plots I've seen in this region in a long time. I won't give anything away - it's definitely worth a read!

Key Members (there are many entries, but these are the nations who have most recently posted): Lauchenoiria, Xiomera, Zamastan, Kerlile, Kvask, Christos, Sanctaria, Gardavasque, Cadair, Shuell.

3. All Quiet on the Western Front: https://theidu.us/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1982

The intricate new RP, set over two decades ago in 1991, in the region of Bjeorg, Libertas Omnium Maximus, a rebellion is brewing. This is bound to be a detailed, fervent event, and it has only just begun. Started by fellow co-culture minister, LOM, there is interesting potential to be looking forward to in this RP as it unfolds. Stay tuned, and feel free to read through the developments thus far!

4. The IDU Wiki: https://www.theidu.us/wiki/Main_Page

I have put an almost embarrassing amount of time into this unique section of our region's foundation. Created and managed by Sanctaria, he has gifted a unique system that allows for quantities of information to be linked to each other's nations effectively and efficiently. This is just the same as Wikipedia - only for the IDU. Several hundred pages on various insights of our region's inter-workings exist here, such as national info, character names, geographical locations, and more! Take a trip over to the IDU Wiki and experience the creativity our region has to offer! Hint - not sure what to read first? Click the 'Random Page' button, and you'll land on a unique page!

I stand by my fellow culture Minister in encouraging anyone not participating in these events (save for the TRC, which is now pretty much concluded) to participate. They are all loads of fun and are great ways to develop your nation.

One thing that I think Zamastan missed, however, was the fact that we have a huge event coming up.

The IDU Olympics https://theidu.us/forum/viewtopic.php?f=107&p=19361#p19361

After months of planning we finally have the biggest sports RP event The IDU has ever seen ready. You can participate as much or as little as you like. Not only is it light and easy role-play for beginners, it can also be a chance to flesh out how your nation views itself and how it chooses to present itself before the rest of the world. Seasoned role-players can also find plenty of room for creating really in depth characters and potential side-story arcs. I personally will be signing up shortly. Would encourage each of you to do the same.

For any skeptical new player. Just sign up. All are welcome and I can personally guarantee that it will be a great time. Laeral hosted a football championship a while back. That was great. Now imagine that on a much bigger scale. That is what you get from The IDU Olympics.

Hosted by the capable Shuell

Polls

I really do think that the IDUs polls are an underutilized feature here at The IDU. With that in mind. Every week (or so) I will have a just-for-fun poll. I hope this brings just a little more light fun to The IDU.
