AU investors to receive preference: Supreme Soviet

NANHWEI NEW CITY - The Executive Committee of the Supreme Soviet has approved a move to abolish investment limits for nationals of Eulumia, Vashnal, and Duma, permitting AU investors to enter the nation's massive financial market and invest in equity and bond markets.

Currently, most investments are done through a quota system, allowing over 400 institutions across the globe to invest in the country on a selective basis since 2002. The investment quotas usually run at around $100 billion USD, but in recent years, it has increased to $150 billion, then $300 billion USD this year. The FEUSSR is home to some of the world's most successful industries, that being automobiles, steel, shipbuilding, semiconductors, displays and IT, all of which are doing extremely well overseas. With a vibrant cultural scene in the form of dramas, pop songs, food, and a massive online gaming industry, investing in the FEUSSR's advanced and rapidly growing industries is a wise choice for the future for many. Additionally, its educated pool of human resources, natural resources, high internet penetration rate, and its friendly business environment makes the nation determined to do all it can to accommodate investor needs.

Under this new government scheme, investors from the 3 other nations will not be subject to any quotas, and for all intents and purposes, will be treated as domestic investors. A similar scheme has been extended to Infiny, with AU partners being granted separate investment quotas from the current one: Infiny's quota is currently set to $110 billion USD. Under the 2002 quota programme, Eulumia was one of the largest investors in the country, taking up 17.9% of its quota, followed by the US and UKOB. Now, without any quota limits for AU investors, it is expected that incoming FDI will balloon by billions to assist the nation's various enterprises, with the Ministry of Revenues expecting a 6% year-on-year increase in AU investments as a result of the change, on top of FDI from elsewhere.

The Bureau of Justice has officially abolished the death penalty across Indochina after a referendum was presented to the United Assembly of the Confederation. The vote passed in the United Assembly with 174 votes FOR and 9 votes AGAINST. Chairman Khan signed the referendum into law after it's passing in the United Assembly. Inmates that were sentenced to death will now be removed from those areas of the prisons as they will be redesigned for long-term containment.

The BFAI (Board of Firearms and Ammunition of Indochina) has now restricted gun access after a statement from Director Somdet-ong-yai Lam stating possession of firearms will be restricted to the Military of the Confederation of Indochinese States. Since 1999, long guns, rifles, shotguns, carbines, machine guns, submachine guns, sniper rifles, automatic rifles, assault rifles, personal defense weapons, and battle rifles have been banned from public possession. This new order now bans handguns and other various firearms that can be used against another citizen of Indochina. Foreigners that are permitted to carry firearms on their person will not be permitted to carry the firearms into Indochina. The only exceptions are allied forces and approved security details. Any person found to be in possession of a firearm illegally will face either a ₭230,093,250 (25,000 USD) fine or two years in prison for their first offense. For the second offense, both quadruple. For the first offense, the amounts listed double from the second offense. The fourth offense will result in a life sentence.

It reminded me when I was a boy looking out into the Aegean Sea and thinking how big the world was. Soon, Hellenic Footprints will be on the moon alongside our allies. We plan on pushing the boundaries even more. A Hellenic Mars Rover, satellites and probes, that is the future in the stars. Hellas will help answer humanities questions on the universe.

The Hellenic League today is at war once again with those who once ruled over us. The Mehmed Republic, the remnant of the Ottoman Empire. Once again blood is being spilled to preserve and protect our freedoms we have always held dear. We will not stop until the Ottomans finally surrender.

Today, and this week, we celebrate. We celebrate our family and our friends. We celebrate those who are no longer here.

Incident at the Suez Canal

Firstly, we would like to maintain that we are hard at work in trying to resolve this unfortunate situation. This represents a significant blow for the Suez Canal and we will personally take every measure to make sure an incident like this doesn't happen again.

We also would like to accepts the several offers for foreign assistance, most importantly those of the Cccp- and The hellenes league. We are sure that our foreign allies can help us resolve this incident much faster than we can on our own and it will strengthen the ties between all of our great nations.

25 tugboats will be making their way to the blockage in the Suez Canal. Additionally we have sent ships with various excavation equipment, as well as engineers from the Hellenic Army Corps of Engineers, and other laborers to assist in the removal.

Additionally we will be offering financial assistance if needed to the Said Port and the Suez Canal Authority if needed.

The sooner this blockage ends, the faster we can get back to normal global trade.

New study shows Graphene Nanoparticles can Revert Anxiety-Related Behaviors in Vertebrates

Graphene flakes are the topic of a new research work performed by the University of Southern California and the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology in Atlanta. It has been demonstrated that this specific nanomaterial has the potential to interact with the workings of the nervous system in vertebrates in a highly specific way, disrupting the development of a pathological process that results in anxiety-related behavior.

"We previously showed that when graphene flakes are delivered to neurons they interfere spontaneously with excitatory synapses by transiently preventing glutamate release from presynaptic terminals” stated Laura Browning, the leader of the research team that performed the study titled, “Graphene oxide prevents lateral amygdala dysfunctional synaptic plasticity and reverts long lasting anxiety behavior in rats.”

The study was recently published in the Biomaterials journal and was co-authored by Audrey Franceschi Biagioni, Giada Cellot, Elisa Pati, Neus Lozano, Belén Ballesteros, Raffaele Casani, Norberto Cysne Coimbra and Kostas Kostarelos.

Browning continued, “We investigated whether such a reduction in synaptic activity was sufficient to modify related behaviours, in particular the pathological ones that develop due to a transient and localised hyper-function of excitatory synapses.”

This method would strengthen the approach of transient and selective targeting of synapses to inhibit the development of brain pathologies through the supposed precise medicine treatments.

To validate this theory, the researchers targeted post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and performed the experiments in two phases—that is, in vitro and in vivo.

We analysed defensive behaviours caused in rats by the presence of a predator, using the exposure to cat odour, to induce an aversive memory. If exposed to the predator odour, the rat has a defensive response, holing up, and this experience is so well-imprinted in the memory, that when the animal is placed in the same context even six days later, the animal remembers the odour of the predator and acts the same protective behaviour.

Biagioni continued, “This is a well-known and consolidated model, that we used to reproduce a stress behaviour. Exposure to the predator can modify neuronal connections—a phenomenon that is technically known as plasticity—and increases synaptic activity in a specific area of the amygdala that therefore represented the target of our study to test the effects of the nanomaterial.”

Browning, during a video call, also had this to say

"We hypothesised that graphene flakes that we showed to temporarily inhibit excitatory synapses (without causing inflammation, damage to neurons or other side effects) could be injected in the lateral amygdala when the plasticity associated with memory was consolidated. If the nanomaterial was efficient in blocking excitatory synapses, it should inhibit plasticity and decrease the anxiety-related response. And this is what happened: the animals that were administered with graphene flakes, after six days, “forgot” the anxiety-related responses, rescuing their behavior,”

The second part of the study was conducted in vitro.

“In vivo, we could observe only behavioural changes and could not evaluate the impact of the graphene flakes on synapses,” explained Giada Cellot, a researcher from MIT and the first author of the study along with Audrey Franceschi Biagioni.

“In vitro experiments allowed to work on a simplified model, to get insight about the mechanisms through which the graphene flakes can interact with neurons,” Biagioni added.

"We used neuronal cultures obtained from the amygdala, the region of the brain where the stress response occurs, and we observed that the effects of nanomaterials were specific for the excitatory synapses and a short exposure to graphene flakes could prevent the pathological plasticity of the synapses." Cellot added later.

Because of these discoveries, graphene flakes have demonstrated their ability as nanotools (biomedical tools made up of nanomaterials) that could behave in a particular and reversible manner on synaptic activity to disrupt a pathological process and, hence, they could also be used to transport medicines or for other similar applications in the area of precision medicine.

Centuries ago, our ancestors rested easily as they believed they had won. Subjugating the people west of the Sudan, reaching the Ruvuma in the deep south, the Empire was stable, and secure, and wealthy. What reason did they have to worry? Ultimately, it took them centuries to realize that they had to modernize to be able to compete. It took them the vast majority of their lands, some of which the Imperial Federation has to this day not uncovered, and remain remnants of the colonial menace that once decended onto Infiny.

The blindness of our forefathers should be forgiven. The decline was slow, it was barely unnoticeable. And yet, it happened. Slowly, they were encroached by a series of power that they did not recognize were ahead of them, and it cost them their wealth, their livelihoods, and gave their children centuries later misery. There's a reason the 20th century is refered to as the Era of Trials and Tribulations. But how we can speak of them in terms of blindness, when we ourselves are not in any way better?

The entry of Maratha for the ICC essentially means that Infiny is surrounded. Not in a military sense, mind you - but in an economic sense. If we let this situation run, the Marathan economy will soon be strong enough to bypass Infinian interests and to marginalize them entirely. The ICC will funnel in funds into Maratha, and we will fade away into obscurity, as more and more ships will simply pass by the Imperial Federation with more profitable nations on the horizon. With our situation, and our location, we cannot afford to be simply bypassed like that. We have to make sure that our economic presence is so significant that we can jump into the forefront of geopolitics

But how would we do so? How could we prevent a slow economic fade into obscurity, which will inevitably be followed by a political one? The answer is simple - we have to face east ourselves. The future of the world lies in Asia, with its immense knowledge and swift modernization speeds. If we are able to ride their modernization, their ability to improve the economic influence of their countries and in doing so improve the lives of their citizenry, we will be able to assert Infiny as an unrivaled economic power in the Western Indian. I believe the move to partner with the AU is an essential move to make, but it is essential that we now leverage the benefit of this partnership. Student exchange programs, mutual investments, trade deals... Infiny's future lies east. If we are to survive this encirclement, it is up to Empress Valeria to make moves to establish shared modernization and innovation programs with the Chinese, the Indochinese, and the Eulumians. Only then can we assure Infinian prosperity, and prevent a barely visible net from encroaching on us.

Official Statement regarding the Suez Crisis

The Imperial Federation has announced that it is more than willing to provide oil tankers in the event that the blockading ship should have its oil drained. It has also announced that all ships seeking to aid the relief effort will have Infinian port facilities in the Red Sea at their full disposal, in order to open the canal as soon as possible.

Emergency conference called, Ahmed Shawqi elected interim president, George Ameen elected prime minster

March 27th, Cairo - An emergency revolutionary command council conference was called today, and ended with head chairman of the RCC Ahmed Shawqi elected as interim president. The decision, which passed unanimously, cited increasing threat and need of stability as main reasons. The new role gives Shawqi more wide ranging power, such as the ability to pass decrees without RCC approval. Shawqi will lead Egypt for 3 more years and then presidential elections will be held.

In the other major decision, George Ameen, a Coptic major general, was elected head of the council of minsters (the council in charge of implementing decisions made by the RCC, and is compromised of all ministers). He becomes the first Coptic prime minster in Egypt's history.

Opposition see this as Shawqi consolidating power, as he is no longer bound by the rest of the RCC and has more executive power than in his previous position as head chairman of the revolutionary command council.
