I want to take a moment to be serious here. I know we have a lot of fun in here and I think it's great, so I didn't want to bring it up at first but in the LGBT+ community I think it's as serious as HIV and STD prevention (if not more serious). It's mental health and suicide and, particularly for gay men, it's as serious as HIV. If you're aged 10-24, it's the 2nd leading cause of death. For adults, it's not the 2nd leading cause but it's up there. And I'm not wanting to do this to scare anyone, I just want to share some information so that you can be there to help a friend, family member or complete stranger. You don't have to be a trained professional, just a good listener and someone willing to act.
And I bring it up because my line of work brought it to me front and center today, so that's why I'm sharing it here because I'm hoping that it may spare someone as tough of a day as I've had today.
So, what do you need to know? And what do you need to do? It's actually very simple. 1) Know the warning signs of someone who's possibly asking for help without blatantly saying, "Help me, please!" and 2) Know what you can do to help.
So to know the warning signs, it's simple, go here: http://www.thetrevorproject.org/pages/warning-signs/ It has the warning signs of what to look for in someone and you can see that it takes no specialised training. And it also lists what you can do to help as well! You can see it's very simple, all it takes is someone who can listen, recognize signs and then do something. The only other thing you can do is if you absolutely know that someone is in immediate danger of hurting themselves, please, do them, their family and you a favor and call the emergency services, whether it's 911 in the States and Canada or 999 for most of the rest of the world, if you know they're in immediate danger, please make that call.
It's taken all of us to act up and fight AIDS/HIV, today we need to act up and fight suicide.

I had a (gay) friend who killed himself two years ago and it's funny how reading that list makes me think how, in retrospective, only the "Express hopelessness" bit applied to him. He would often post about how he thought he would die alone after a bad date, or "pls kill me" when he spent the entire night studying. Of course everybody thought he was making jokes. It didn't help that he had the biggest, most infectious smile ever, and was always cracking jokes and quoting Mean Girls.
What I'm saying is, if you have a friend like that, please don't forget to occasionally tell them how much you love them and how beautiful and needed they are. And how much you want to help them if anything is troubling them.

Homoromantic is a term often used within the asexual community to describe someone who feels romantically, but not sexually, attracted to people of the same gender. However, it's by no means exclusive to asexuals - it's possible to be a homoromantic bisexual, or a homoromantic heterosexual, or pretty much any other combination.
