The only way to become good is to.. PRACTICE! :D
What is your current project?

Auruna wrote:Mmm... worldbuilding.

Indeed. :) Do you have any thought on my new project? Any questions, suggestions? :D

..goes out to all of you obviously..

It's nice, you certainly have great ideas for it. Keep working on it!

A few questions, I have no idea what to ask exactly so.. XD
- On the map, what is the current year / era?
- What are the relations / connections of each state?
- How would they interact to each other? (like are they hostile to each other or something?)
- Are the borders primarily based on culture or primary ethnic groups?

I like the naming scheme but I think it should get some variation like names based on what they're called in their own language, primary ethnic group, historic name or something like that. Like I would change Saxia to something like the Eastern Frankish Kingdom or Österfränkreich. (and apparently that gave me an idea lol)

One thing is that when you want to change something in your timeline, you should consider how it would affect others. Like in a war where the invading forces are from a rival ethnic group that should result in resistance or rebellions. It goes deeper than this but I don't want to go there for now as it will worsen my headache lol

In connection with the Chilean War of Independence, twelve Chilean families fled by fishing boats to Alaska, where they planned to settle down and breed livestock, with the permission of the Eskimos (since it was their territory). Then they would row over to Russia. During the trip, the Chileans ended up in a strong storm, where the women dived into the sea, to protect themselves. The men were mashed against large protruding rocks and died. The women were washed up on an archipelago in the Tjuktjer sea and it got the name Lukingbridgard Island (after The Luking family). Since only women survived, it became a matriarchy. Every year, ten orphan Chileans are selected, to grow into the Lukingbridge culture.

- It is roughly present time, though tech is less advanced because of different developments. I'm thinking maybe widescale global colonisation getting a later start and smaller extent, so the prequisites for industrial revolutoon, IE cheap raw materials & manpower and a large market, didn't quite co-occur. There should be an equivalent of an industrial revolution, but later and slower, and with different specifics.. perhaps tech will be kind of steam-punky or something.
- This is a peaceful era, so the main interaction is trade. Wars have occured extensively in the history, as have alliances and power politics. It sure if French and/or American Revolution will occur, so probably there might be fairly strong monarchies still in power, with all that entails of political marriages and intricate relations. Haven't given the details much thought yet..
- I guess the borders are mainly Realpolitik-based, with certain ethnicities having enough power relativ to others to be able to impose state rule upon them. There might have been a national romantic era resulting in wars to include full culture areas into the corresponding nation state, but it won't have been universally successful in all cases. Probably.

Yeah, don't know if I'm completely satisfied with the names.. though I do like the convention of having country names end in -ia. I'll find a justification for that, probably to do with the Romans. Reminds me I have to figure out what to do with the Roman Empire.. Doesn't seem to be an Eastern Roman presence in the Balkans, at least not in the small part of it visible on my map. Or they could just be absorbed by the Hungarians. Hmm.
Österfrankerreich is a good name, I might do something based on it.. Ostrofrankia? Hmm.. XD

Interesting premise. Sounds like something out of a novel. :)

Ju shì żi. Yú lái wo čakan do a tà hé tà coņżòú yú shé, shédo haoxìé kan hé tàdo háiyùán. Dì "ņ" ju /ŋ/. Hé "e" ju /ə/ hé "ia" ju /ɛ/. Yinyin ju kuòyin ma. Ju a yin čun "a", čún "á" hé čùn "à".

It's just an experiment. We'll see how it goes and what it develops into, how the grammar will look like and so on. Yes, "ņ" is /ŋ/. And "e" is /ə/ and "ia" is /ɛ/. All tones are contour tones. There is the middle "a", rising "á" and falling "à" tone.

Allright! I see you have more instances of two consecutive vowels (other than ia), are they diphtongs or separate syllables?

Looking forward to seeing more. :)

Kowani, how're you hanging on - not headed for Canada I hope? :P

Seems from the news here like there's quite a bit of violence around, but probably not more than expected at this point in the current political climate over there.. How's the general mood in your location; do you feel safe?

good news: biden looks set to win, violence has mostly been confined to a few locations (and no deaths), there's no chance of SCOTUS intervening and throwing off the whole election. We'll live.

Oh, hello and welcome to the Council of Constructed Languages, Pyompyam and Navence!

Sauna thoughts: I'm thinking of translating a few songs into my conlangs and would try translating Säkkijärven polkka as a start.

Also, translating a song into several languages. Like each verse, different language. As an example, Blessing World Edition.

Thinking of translating said song with you guys. It would be interesting.

Of course, I would do it when I get distracted from doing some worldbuilding in my free time.

Ooh, that's not a bad idea. I have a song translated on my factbook page, why not do another?

That's good to hear!

Now if that certain someone in a certain house of a certain colour would just take a chill pill and realise there's nothing he can do to stop the due course of the processes of democracy.. one can only hope.. probably in vain.. X|

Btw, do you mean the polka or the blessing world thing as a collaborative translation thing?
