A great many concerns and ideas have come out of this conversation, they deserve further respectful and considered discussion. One that won't simply disappear into a difficult to locate/track RMB discussion.

We need to make poll to ask nations if they want to stay on the forum or not hopefully it will settle this issue and then there will be no further conversation on this matter.

Never mind that. Montonian needs to stop behaving in an uncanadian manner. Having a discussion is pointless if it is endlessly interrupted in the rudest of manners every single time.

We're using the RMB to debate alternative methods of communication.

Rather proves my point about making game side the centre of regional activity.

Now let's just make all WA nations MPs and conduct parliamentary governance via the RMB and polls.

***** Texas Department of State Announcement *****

Citizens of Texas! Citizens of Canada! The Maple BBQ Weekend will be upon us next weekend!

It is our great pleasure to announce that our friends from Canada will descend upon Texas starting on Friday afternoon! For those who may not know, Canada is our fourth oldest ally and we will be celebrating our 13th year of ties on August 30th. Canada's head honcho, the beautiful Shay of The Pubs of Parkplace will be our special guest of honor in this weekend of Maple Syrup and BBQ. Canada and Texas will sign an epic trade agreement regarding those two exports and, to seal the deal, we will be having a massive BBQ all weekend, breakfast, lunch, and dinner featuring Maple Syrup whenever and wherever possible. There will be plenty of special events pitting Texans against Canadians in such events as Maple Syrup Wrestling, Poutine Eating, Brisket Gobbling, Axe Throwing and more! Of course, there will be beer, beer, and more beer, both Canadian and Texan. And if BBQ and Beer and Contests are not enough, there will be plenty of Entertainment, including the Texas Two-Step Ball Saturday night with plenty of special guests! It should be good, really good!

The fun starts Friday, on the Texas Regional Message Board as well as the Texas Offsite, here: http://s2.zetaboards.com/Texas/topic/7022065/1/

Please join us in Texas next weekend!

I'm not trying to be rude and never was, therefore it was not uncanadian, I have you know I was born in Canada myself. Stormaen is going to solve this matter with polls, this discussion will end and Everyone will be happy.

While it might be an interesting way to get a feeling for the general opinion, an RMB poll would have no official standing. Setting up a new communications structure for Canada would be a matter for the House of Commons.

Ok then but it is Stormaen's choice, he is the speaker and he can choose whether to bring it to the house floor or make a poll here., Fortunately he has already chosen to make a poll.

Stormaen wrote:I sympathise with both sides of the argument. I especially resonate with registering again and again when you're spread over many regions being tedious. Which is exactly why I'm not going to register for Discord if Canada goes that way... The forum is familiar but going the way of the dodo. It's not just Canada, it's NationStates wide. Forums are a bygone product of a bygone era. Likewise, Discord isn't its replacement. It is not the Messiah of messaging.

Apart from Discord then, what are forums being replaced by?

Stormaen wrote:I'm a fan of NationStates. It's quick. It's convenient. I'm already registered. We have the means to hold regional debates (as the last 30 posts proves). We have the means to conduct polls (and to limit and monitor who votes). We have the means to interact with other regions. We have everything a region needs to govern itself; everything we need to build and maintain our community.

I do not advocate replacing or retiring the NSC forum. It's a sticking post in the history of our community. It is testament to our betters who came before, who created us, shaped us and laid the roots we grew this maple tree from. It cannot be replaced. Likewise, I am not hostile to Discord. It's a chance to branch out into modern means.

However, I am advocating the greater utilisation of our gameside space. It is where we are most reactive, responsive; most visible and, I believe, most viable.

In an ideal world, NS would have had a fully functional forum system built into it from the beginning. It didn't though, and it still doesn't now.
It lacks many basic features that even so called "obsolete" forums have. You can't post images or smilies. You can't have separate topics. There's no permission system. You can't customise the look and feel beyond the most basic level, so there's no way to differentiate a region visually. Finding old posts is a tedious exercise in frustration.

I agree with you that NS should be the focus of our communication, but sadly it's not up to the job.

No, he does not have that option. All government business is transacted via the forum.

Nope,Ontarian I was born in Ottawa which is The capital of Canada.

Nothing. I don't advocate its replacement and certainly not with Discord. I advocate shifting focus game side and making the RMB more central to our regional debates and discussions - just like this to be honest.

Agree with all this. Who knows, in the future those may be features that are added. Since the absolute DEATH of NS2, they've really ramped up the features and interactivity of NS. Irrelevant to your point though, just 'shooting the breeze'.

Disposablepuppetland wrote:Finding old posts is a tedious exercise in frustration.

That's the same with the forum, to be fair. If a conversation has moved away from whatever post you were on, especially on busy forums, it can be a trawl to find and read previous posts. I actually find the search feature for the RMB far easier and clearer to use.

Disposablepuppetland wrote:I agree with you that NS should be the focus of our communication, but sadly it's not up to the job.

Again, no disagreement from me.

All wrong, I'm afraid.

Firstly, nothing about this is my choice. We're a democracy and the will of the majority wins.

Secondly, I have no power outside the House. As a prominent WA member, I'm authorised to act to protect this region in an unofficial capacity. As for polls, I can request them on the regional page just as much as any other player can. If the delegate chooses to authorise such a poll, that is her prerogative.

Lastly, I quote Al:

Almonaster Nuevo wrote:No, he does not have that option. All government business is transacted via the forum.

Not only is all government business conducted on the forum, it is conducted by will of the Commons. It's up to the House to direct its business, I merely preside over it. That's - in my opinion - what a good Speaker does.

You may request a poll on the offsite forum:
