It's to lock all the skeletons in your closet.

13 million watched Prince Philip's funeral. Amazing how many can care about someone who wouldn't have peed on them if they were on fire.
And your point is...?
That was my point.
I fear I don't really get it.
The royal family is generally respected, especially the Queen and to a lesser extent her late husband. Showing positivity to them is, to some extent, a matter of national pride. 13 million is less than 20% of the UK's population, and I'd be willing to get a portion of those numbers are not residents of the UK (foreigners, expats, diplomats/dignitaries, etc.) I don't really think it's that surprising that people tuned in. If it had been, say, 50% or more of the country's population, that would be pretty impressive/surprising. 20% seems about right for covering both hardcore royalist supporters and people who were just curious about what a royal funeral is like.
I know little to nothing about the man's personality, so I can't really comment on the shade you've thrown his way. He always seemed pretty mild-mannered to me.
I agree. I don't agree with many of the things the British Royal family has done, but Philip was a decent guy.
Pretty mild mannered with all his little racist comments, yeah.
r u ok lmao
I'm not clear what your motivation was for posting it, it was unnecessary, factually inaccurate, and frankly, rude. I'm sure holders of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award (in particular Gold holders), who got to meet the man, would disagree with you, but then again, as someone not possessing your stellar powers of character-judging what would I know?
There's a little bit of brown on your nose there, sunshine.
You seem kind of pessimistic. Prince Philip may have been politically incorrect sometimes and had some xenophobic gaffes but overall he was a great man who did great things. Same thing with the religious debate; religions may have in the past been wrong to persecute people or have been hypocrites and many religious texts and people are still xenophobic and hypocritical today, but the majority of people and religions aren't. Religion plays a large part in some communities and people who are part of a religious organization tend to be on average happier. Also, religious groups, in fact, payed 1/3rd of all charitable donations in the US in 2016.
To state that because of one bad act or one bad statement that a person or thing is bad is wrong. When looking at anything you should be objective in your reasoning. You should look at both the good and bad parts of anyone and determine if something is objectively good or objectively bad. We are all humans and we all make mistakes, but those mistakes should not define who we are.
Same. I think it is a little disrepectful talking like that about a dead person.
Although i kind of understand your point, i think people don't grieve the prince himself, but the title, as he is a... "personification", if you will, of their nation.
I think hypocrisy is not predominant in religion, just more notorious, bc, as Aelyria said, hypocrisy is a human trait.
And the other way around too. And the same situation can be seen but in political views instead of religion, so extremism, hypocrisy and the likes are not a religious characteristic, but human.
(I hope i didn't said anything too dumb lol)
A master of sarcasm and wit as well? There must be no end to your talent.
Yay, I relegalised alcohol and raised the minimum wage. Helped increase the poor's income after it crashed due to austerity cuts.
How can you properly start a war and how does it work?
Yeah, that is correct. It's just that religion has been used as a tool to control men and justify immoral actions, plus I had a very negative personal experience with it.
Couple that with me not being a spiritual person at all, and I think you people can see why I said what I said.
Just to clarify, I don't stand by with what I said, I was wrong. Sorry if I offended you, Aelyria. Or any religious person for that matter.
Hello Balder :)
Bestelesnia and Vocomia
Hello!
First, though I know it is just words and cannot repair the lived injury, I am truly sorry you have endured such. Regardless of the perpetrators or context, it was wrong, and no excuse can justify that.
Second, apology absolutely accepted, and no hard feelings: the words are past, like smoke in the wind. Some of my dearest friends have also endured hardship specifically from religious communities (closer to my own specific faith than I like to admit), so I strive always to listen and understand, not point fingers. These bad acts from fellow believers are a humbling and sobering reminder of the horrible toll that fundamentally wrong moral judgments, upheld in the name of faith, can take on others.
Faith, like truth and justice and utopia, is not an excuse. To hide behind any of them as a screen to block all moral criticism is simply, always, inherently wrong.
