I have also been feeling tired of the game, even though we most likely will be merging soon. I am sad to say that effective soon after the merger, I will be leaving NationStates for the above reasons. I want to focus on real life first, and not a 2002 web game. I don't have the time to manage both.
As for the future of our server, I will transfer ownership to someone when we merge with the RCN, and they will begin the process of transitioning this to an RP server for the new region. The government servers will be deleted. I do not plan on coming back, but if I do, the first chance would be after (US) Labor Day Weekend in September. I hope you all will do well in the new region, better days are ahead of us!

Can you not just take a small step back into a part time capacity, like 2 days a week or such?

I'm just tired of the game, that's also the issue. A part time system won't work for me, I'll just get back into the habit of being on all of the time.

Well don't get back in the habit. Lol.

If the merger goes through, a whole lot of positive changes are going to occur. You should be part of that as you worked towards it.

A lot of people seem to be complaining or rebutting New Jakobly's points for why he is leaving. I have this to say: If he wishes to leave, then mourn him, but let him do what he wants. If he thinks it is unhealthy for him, maybe it is unhealthy and he should stop. Don't make it hard for him to leave the community because all that does is make him feel bad about leaving.
