Welcome to 10000 Islands! If you're new to the game, you're probably wondering what all of the site features are and how they work. You'll find that NationStates is a seemingly simple browser game with a rich community and a depth of features and game play developed by players over the course of almost 18 years. 10000 Islands is one of the oldest regions in the game, dating back to 2002, with a continuously operational defender military and active regional government. Opening Steps The first thing you'll want to do, if you haven't already, is to answer your issues. In NationStates, you function as the all-powerful leader of your nation and Issues are how you effect your government's policy and national statistics. Issues are the only way to effect these and you'll have to wait for more issues once you've answered them all. To learn more about issues, you can check out the 10000 Islands While you wait to receive more issues, you should join the World Assembly (WA). Joining the WA requires that you input your email address on the settings page (know that your email will not be visible to other users and NationStates does not send you spam emails!). Joining the World Assembly is important because it grants you a say in developing international law through the General Assembly and preserving international peace through the Security Council. More importantly, joining the WA grants you citizenship in 10000 Islands, which allows you to participate in elections and run for office. Once you've joined the World Assembly, be sure to endorse the World Assembly Delegate Astrobolt. Endorsing the Delegate gives the region more power in the World Assembly because the Delegate's vote is weighted so they receive an extra vote for each WA endorsement they have. In keeping with the tradition, I am happy to announce the Best Flag Competition in February 2021! This contest was started many years ago by Anime daisuki and has been revived last year by HumanSanity, along with a Best Motto Competition.
Update: The voting for the flag contest has begun, both on-site and on our forum. Sign-ups for the Banner Contest are now open!
Best Flag Competition
We are looking for the best and most creative national flag, which will be determined by vote. If you would like to participate, you can submit your flag until the 7th of February. After this, the flags will be randomly sorted into groups and voted upon from the 8th to the 14th until the winner will be determined in the final voting round between the 15th and 21st of February. All Islanders and Friends of the Islands are welcome to participate!
We will hold two separate votes, one on the forum and the other on-site:
Forum Submissions
Those who do have a forum account, can sign up by posting in the 
sign-up thread. All forum submissions will be sorted into groups and voted upon via forum poll from the 8th to the 14th. The final winner will be announced on the 21st of February after the last voting round and will win a Season 1 Anime Daisuki and 25000 Tacos. The runner up will receive a prize as well, a Season 2 Knootoss and 10000 Tacos.
On-Site Submissions
If you don't have a forum account, you may sign up by sending a telegram to Thedairos. You don't need to send in a picture of your flag, it suffices to send me the link to the nation whose flag you are submitting. It should be a nation that you control, but it doesn't necessarily have to be the flag of your main nation. Please keep the flag you are submitting on this nation for the whole duration of the contest. On-site submissions will as well be sorted into groups and the winner will be determined by regional polls on NationStates. The player with the best submission shall receive a Season 2 Sierra Lyricalia.
Rules for the participation:
The flag has to be your own individual artwork, unless someone else created it for you, in which case you should give credit to the creator. Official or already existing flags of countries, regions, organizations etc. will not be accepted.
Your submission has to be the flag of a nation that you control, which doesn't necessarily have to be your main nation.
Only one submission per player will be accepted.
Your flag mustn't contain any hateful, fascist, racist, or otherwise inappropriate content and has to be PG-13. The rules of NationStates apply.
Flags should be submitted until the 7th of February, either in the forum sign-up thread or via telegram to Thedairos.
Best Banner Contest
Simultaneously, we will be running a Best Banner Competition where we are looking for the most creative and beautiful national banner! The event will be held on our regional forum. To enter, you can post a national banner that you created in the Banner Submission Thread that will be linked here once sign-ups are open. If you do not have a forum account and still would like to enter, please send your submission via telegram to Thedairos or per Discord DM to Thed#2708. Submissions will be open from the 8th to the 14th of February, followed by a week of voting via forum poll until the 21st of February. The winner receives a Season 2 Imperium Anglorum. The same rules as for the flag contest apply. According to NationStates, the optimal size ratio for creating a banner is about 4:1 and it shouldn't be bigger than 1200x400 pixels.

The Partnership for Sovereignty recommends a vote AGAINST this resolution for the following reasons:

Reasoning: On face, the Security Council proposal Commend King HEM recognizes a nation with significant service to prominent regions in NationStates. However, examination past this shiny verneer reveals a more insidious political purpose of heaping praise upon the founder of a raider reigon.
The proposal credits King hem with building the raiding regions of Europeia and The Land of Kings and Emperors. Both of these regions have routinely acted without regard for regional sovereignty--invading regions without the consent of their native residents, often times to "generate activity" without any meaningful foreign policy goal.
It would be one thing if the proposal simply credited King hem for having built Europeia but avoided discussion of their leadership of invasions. However, the proposal actively celebrates King hem's contributions to raiding.
First, the proposal credits King hem with a "restructure of the Europeian Republican Navy" which "push[ed] the organisation's revitalisation". In effect, it credits the nominee with making a more effective and active raider organization, activity which comes at the expense of the Security Council's stated goal of "[s]preading interregional peace and goodwill".
Second, the Commendation credits King hem for developing the ideology of Independentism, which, as practiced by Europeia, is a smokescreen for wanton disregard for the autonomy of other regions. Hiding these dangerous and destructive practices under an faux ideology of regional interests is readily apparent when Europeia has not engaged in any liberations or defenses of non-allies in recent memory. The proposal explicitly has the Security Council validate this dangerous propaganda lie which only furthers the agenda of those who oppose the common cause of regional sovereignty by lending international legitimacy to their efforts.
The Partnership for Sovereignty recommends a vote AGAINST the resolution "Commend King HEM".
