How do I help my economy? Its really struggling right now. Is it because i'm socialist?

but you can listen to CEO's sometimes, that always works, atleast in making the rich richer, oh wait you're socialist.

Well there are two common ways.
The first is the quick and easy solution. Demolish your environment. Give all rights to businesses and government projects to turn your environment into money.
The second way is slower and environmentally friendly. Say no to environmental destruction, but side with businesses whenever you can. Raise tariffs to deter outside business from leeching off your nation and keep jobs in the nation. Help businesses when they need funding sometimes and when problems arise. It also helps to privatize what you can.
Both ways are great and I'm sure there are more ways than that, so you can choose whatever you like.

I've gotten a good hand in the issues and the choices I chose over the past few years, hitting that certain issue back in June was like stepping on a land mine...
It's affected not just eco-friendliness, but most of the stats that I like as well (Intelligence, Environmental Beauty, Safety, HDI etc...)
Taught me a lesson to never, ever give economic freedom to corporations... :P

Go for a mixed economy if you want to remain free from the crushing grip of laissez-faire capitalism/corporatism. Personally I enjoy the environment, so I opted to keep it, but you don't have to. I managed mid-90s in economy with a mixed economy. It will take some work and some lucky issues though.
I'd say that's sage advice.
