Small Huts is correct, Equilism has had a number of government formats over it's history. The First Commonwealth was established as a result of the first Constitutional Convention after the region was founded in January 2004. There were subsequent frequent constitutional conventions held roughly 3 or 4 times each of the first two years, which continued the Commonwealth under differing Constitutions as we sought to refine and perfect our regional governance with a mind to keeping ourselves flexible to our nations' and region's needs. Then in 2006, NS introduced the game mechanic of Influence into the game, eliminating all griefing rules in the process. The raider/defender game at that point was crucial to Equilism's purpose, thus the change to Influence had a large impact. Our allied regions went inactive and many ceased to exist. Equilism was headed in the same direction. The existing Commonwealth Constitution required a quorum to pass anything, and no quorum could be attained. This combined with a lack of interest for anyone to run for election for President and Prime Minister. This resulted in what is known as 'The Schism', which was an event played out by the remaining active members, creating two 'sides', Imperial Equilism (lead by me, as Founder), and the Government-in-Exile under the Commonwealth Constitution (lead by the outgoing President Neo Conservatism). We divided up behind the scenes, and in public our friends became our enemies, and our enemies became our friends.

After three months of this, we resolved this pseudo conflict with the agreement and Constitution of 'The Realm of Equilism', a constitutional monarchy with the Founder serving as Monarch. The Monarch was granted the right to self title, and I took the title King. The authority of The Monarch/Founder was balanced in The Triumvirate, which included the Chief Justice (Chaucerin) and Governor General - elected by The College of Equilism, the legislative body of the region. Overriding authority required 2/3 of the Triumvirate.

In 2008, I also became delegate of The North Pacific and became the Crimson King, establishing The Crimson Order that included both regions and allied to regions such as The Pacific, Gatesville, and The Last Kingdom; as well as working closely with The Land of Kings and Emperors and other Imperialists and Raiders. I advanced Chaucerin to the position of Steward over Equilism to keep the governing bodies of The North Pacific and Equilism separate under The Crimson Order. Later, in another inactive period, instead of trying to lead another effort such as The Schism and The Crimson Order (which would have been transparent of me to have done so), I abdicated the Monarchy and Foundership to Chaucerin, who became the second King of Equilism.

When Chaucerin stepped down, the Foundership was passed to Naivetry, who then lead the region away from constitutional monarchy and eventually to the Second Commonwealth and all it's own iterations, although the primacy of the Foundership (in recognition of the reality of game mechanics) remains to this day.

Eventually, the Foundership again passed from Naivetry to me, and then from me to Chaucerin, and then to Whamabama as it is today.

Founder Equility first named Ostendt and myself as the first Co-Founders. Ostendt then became an inactive player, leaving me as the only co-founder when Equility went on vacation in 2005, never to return. The Schism and The Realm were also vehicles to recognize that the sitting Founder has the right to set the direction and ideals of the region without being burdened with the policies of the past.
