Resignation of a President

Fellow TWIslanders: For one year and 161 days it has been my honor to serve as your president. In that time, we have switched constitutions, removed the Judicial System and the Vice Presidency, gone through four Secretary of Recruitments, switched Secretary of Information, and have gone through three Secretary of Role Plays. Countless nations have come through the Isles, many of which have stayed and become permanent fixtures of the region. Through this though I consider my presidency to have been one of stability and a whole-hearted focus on RP, moving away from the debates of regional governance that previous administrations had to deal with whilst the region was coming into its own. I wholeheartedly believe that I leave the region in a better place than it was in when I became the Western Isles' third President.

Effective Immediately I am resigning from the presidency of the Western Isles. I leave this post due to the consequences of my actions and the reaction that members have had to them. I apologize to the region for what I was a part of, it was not becoming of my position and I should have declined the opportunity to participate. I do hope that my fellow region members will be able to forgive me for my actions, and forgive anyone else who may have taken part. None-the-less, the past will always be behind us, all we can do is keep moving forward with our heads held high and with our hearts full of love for our fellow region mates.

For the three years I have been part of this region, I have had nothing but love for it and for almost all of the people who also call this region home. I believe that I managed to bring this with me into the presidency. I attempted to keep the region stable and secure in how it operated, and overall, I believe that goal was achieved. I would personally like to thank Agadar for his service as Secretary of Information, which he continues to do so and I hope will do so for a long time. His work is truly stellar and the work ethics he takes into the office shows. Along with that I would like to thank Noronica for his service as Secretary of Recruitment which he continues to operate as. He has kept the region at a stable population level, in terms of turnaround in members who reside on the map. I believe that in this past year we more often than not gain members who will stay on average for longer than the majority of nations in the past.

In terms of Secretary of Role Play I have had two great ones, stretching back to when we called the SoRP the SoI. Atnaia was an amazing SoI, truly knowledgeable in every aspect of the game. His assistance I am sure helped many nations. Ainslie managed to make the daunting office of the SoRP more approachable, which I believe was a major reason that many more nations have begun to stay for longer. Both of these great people have had to resign from the position due to the sheer amount of work, effort, and toll on the human emotion that the office demands. I remember it well from both times that I served in the role. I hope that our new SoRP is able work well in the role, but it may be up to the region to solve the problems that come with such a demanding office.

Overall, I feel as though I achieved what I believed was best for the region under my presidency, and that was security and stability, a pursuit of the status quo.

Thomas Jefferson once wrote, "I like the dreams of the future, better than the history of the past." As I leave this role I am filled with the same optimism, it is my hope that the next president will keep the region running well. There are probably going to be changes that need to be made, but I hope that the next person in the role will not try to achieve changes unnecessary for the sole purpose of creating a name for themselves or for promises that may be ill-advised for the region. I do believe though that the next president will be quite competent, and my voice shall be heard in the next election as is the right of any member.

As I bring this to a close I would like to touch on more personal matters. The Western Isles has been a family to me for three years, I have grown and changed in that time, and I believe that this region and the people in it have had a profound effect on me. My heart is filled with love and friendship for my fellow TWIslander, and I hope that others will follow in my stead. Be friendly to all those you meet, the Isles is a home to many, but it can be home to many more. A family has no bounds. Be the best person you can be, no matter who may try to hold you down. Welcome every new nation with open arms and words of kindness. Make sure that when one thinks of TWI they think the same thing I do, "Friends."

Not everyone will be receptive, not everyone will reciprocate in this friendship or love. But do not let that bring you down, the actions of others should not change you for the worst. For everyone who may not be the nicest human being, there are plenty more in this region and outside of it that will revel in the friendship you extend. In many TWIslanders we see the best of friendship: fun, love, pushing each other to be better, and a general respect for one another.

It has been a privilege to serve as your leader, one that I had worked towards since the first constitution made. But it is time to move on, and bring a freshness to the region. There have been good days and there have been bad days, but every day I have been surrounded by friends and great people. I have been blessed to represent the Isles, and I will always carry that honor with me.

And so, for the final time, I bid you good night as President of the Isles.

Much Love,
Polar.
