The Northern Lights - Issue XVII, November 4th
Z-Day
Halloween comes around and zombies start to appear on NationStates, it that time of year again, when we purge, join or cure zombies to either save our citizens or join the zombie hordes.
Like last year, TNP went with the method of curing zombies, successfully deploying the cure within the last hour of the event. That was not enough to stop the massive deaths happening in TNP as well as across NationStates, lowering our rankings from last year. Here is how we faired compare to the previous year
Most Survivors 2nd to 4th – 4.42 trillion to 3.04 trillion
Most Infected 43rd to 7th – 63.3billion to 1.20 trillion
Most Dead: 11th to 6th – 4.42 trillion to 5.92 trillion
This year was horrible for the TNP, leading all three leaderboards compared with the rest of the feeders. In saying that we outshined in survivors, doubling The West Pacific. Apart from that, we did poorly, with our infected rising dramatically, alongside all of the other regions, significantly hampering our efforts. Furthermore, with having the most amount of nations, it was tough trying to cure the nations not actively participating, but ultimately, we are proud as a region with having one of the largest counts of survivors considering the circumstances.
Roleplay Reel #3
Welcome to Roleplay Reel #4. This month. Several important events have occurred, but first and foremost, I would like to extend a warm welcome to Cojedes, who has just returned from a period of absence. Cojedes was a major player in the Fascist Wars, the Eras version of World War 2, and his contribution to RP has been tremendous. With that being said, let’s get into this month's events.
In National Roleplay, we had several new RPs, chief among them being Stranded at Sea and the House of Rebellion. Stranded at Sea follows the captain of a Naizerrean Ship that had recently had a rendezvous with the Cogorian navy. At said rendezvous, the Naizerreans transferred fissile material to the Cogorians to aid in their attempts to build a nuclear weapon. However, things don’t go as expected when the Naizerrean ship breaks down in the Ocean and the captain, the daughter of an important member of the government, radioed for help to nearby vessels. Within the radius of the signal were ships from the Syrixian, Skandan, Goyanean, and Lancerian navies as well as an Iraelian Cargo Ship that had been returning from Meterra. Now all these ships are vying to be the ones to intercept the Naizerreans and uncover the truth about the deal between Naizerre and Cogoria. Meanwhile, in the House of Rebellion, Thederic Nors has been in a Civil War. The entrenched Absolute Monarchy has entered a bloody struggle with the Red Laurel party who have split off from the nation to form the People’s Republic of Nors. The conflict, which has devastated the country, has drawn in some foreign actors. First, the Cogorians raised 11,000 volunteers, who are secretly highly trained soldiers, and aided the rebels. Second, the Prydanians began a series of airstrikes into PRN territory in an attempt to cripple the communists. Then, Maloria sent 20,000 soldiers across the border, alongside their Kanadian allies, to help the monarchy whom Maloria has familial ties to. Next, Iraelia, honoring their treaty with Maloria, sent in the Third Air Division to bomb the communist’s capital of Everlene. Now, it is up to Maloria and Cogoria to determine the outcome of this fight as they meet on the lands of Everlene.
In Negotiations, the alliances have been somewhat active recently. The PGU recently is currently holding elections for Chancellor. It’s currently between Jorgen Arnad, the sitting Chancellor from Goyanes, and Kari Vistell, the representative from Andrenne. So far the vote stands at 2 for Arnad and 2 for Vistell. Once the election concludes, the PGU will begin drafting legislation concerning PGU Battlegroups. In the Iterian League, no monthly session was held, but a November legislative session will debate the admittance of Yukkira and Plembobria. In the Meterra Economic Treaty Association, Lanceria and Guslantis were admitted as members, while Braveadia was admitted as an observer. In addition, deliberations are currently ongoing on what to name the Meterran universal currency.
Finally, this week, we have seen some activity on the Trade and Economics subforum. The nation of Thederic Nors, still embroiled in Civil War, has sought aid in their military and reconstruction efforts. As that is the case, the queen herself has reached out to several nations across Eras to aid Thederic Nors.
This has been Roleplay Reel #4.

WA Affairs
General Assembly:
Ocean Noise Reduction – FOR
Marriage Equality - AGAINST
Freedom of Language Act - AGAINST
Repeal "Marriage Equality" – FOR
This repeal attempt seeks to eliminate the redundancies found regarding marriage equality, given that these rights are guaranteed by the "Charter of Civil Rights," which explicitly bans any discrimination by sexual preferences. This repeal does not attempt to block present, nor future, legislation regarding marriage equality, but encourages to adopt and promote legislation with a progressive content and scope when defending the right of equal marriage.Convention on Domestic Partnerships – AGAINST
While different-sex couples will be married, the same-sex couples will be in a "domestic partnership" under this resolution. Thus, given that marriage equality includes the right to be able to call your union a "marriage," which is not granted under this resolution. Since nations should not be able to subjugate same-sex couples to the ignominy of being different, we demand a resolution that explicitly gives same-sex couples the full right to marriage, having the mentioned concerns covered.Public Health and Vaccinations Act – FOR
The resolution encourages the enactment of national laws that allow progress regarding health and medical care, clarifies that the cost of vaccination services should not exceed minimum expenditure, and protects citizens from undesirable effects that may occur due to the alteration of the vaccines.
Security Council:
Repeal: Condemn The Black Riders - FOR
Continuing with Kaboomlandia's series of resolutions to purge condemnations related to the Predator scandal, this resolution targets one of the regions that was involved rather than individual actors.Commend Zwangzug - FOR
Commend Europeia – FOR
Europeia's list of accomplishments is extensive. The resolution highlights its independent military initiatives, including anti-fascism engagements, the development of government programs in allied regions, and its efforts in the World Assembly, especially as one of The North Pacific's allies in the World Assembly Legislative League.
RMB Reel #1
We thrive in chaos. We are a subcommunity wrapped in an organic and evermoving environment that from the outside-looking-in, seems intimidating, unorganized, and possibly unwelcoming. Our members are composed of the daring, the brave, and the mildly weird.
But most of all, we are part of you. I’m talking about your community on the other side; the Regional Message Board Roleplaying Community, also known affectionately as the RMB RP.
Hi, I’m Yukkira, and this is the RMB RP Reel. Once a month, this segment of the TNL will aim to shine a light into the happenings of the RMB RP community. In this issue, I will introduce you to our most influential community members in addition to introducing the significant alliances present on our world of Strangereal. So without further ado, let me introduce to you five of the most prominent members of our community (in alphabetical order):
Friently - The Grand Empire of Friendly, led by Emperor Bryan von Friently-Hannover VII, is a commandeering nation of the RMB RP. Through his steady leadership, Friently has revolutionized the RMB RP via the Treaty that he wrote. Currently, he’s serving the Ministry of Home Affairs as a Gameside Advocate and an RP Moderator, in addition to being a regular in the RMB.
Kyoki Chudoku – The Supreme Ultimate Country of Kyoki Chudoku, led by the famous (infamous?) Supreme Lord of All Reality, Aozora Chiyumi, is a widely regarded trendsetter of the RMB RP. Lately, Kyoki Chudoku has been featured in Stories of the North Pacific 2017 here. Currently, he’s not involved with any Ministries and is busily content giving out cookies spiked with cyanide. Isn't it a wonderful world?
Puczovska – The Communist Federation of Puczovska, formerly led by President Maurytsiy Sokolovskyy, is the RMB’s lead cartographer. Without Puczovska, the RMB community would not have a map; plain and simple. Although for the most part awkward but not at all a stranger to being outspoken, Puczovska is undoubted, the sole champion of communism; willing to go to extreme lengths to spread communism throughout the nations of the RMB.
The Sanada Clan – The Lalaland of the Sanada Clan, ruled by the fabled Lady Lala herself, is both one of the RMB RP’s founders and its firmest advocates. Hailed as the Queen of the RMB, the Sanada Clan maintains a near constant watch over her community, weeding out the trolls, and nurturing both established and new nations alike. She is currently serving as the RMB RP’s first Head RP Moderator, in addition to serving this term as the Sr. Gameside Advocate of the North Pacific Government.
Yukkira – The Most Glorious Principality of Yukkira, led by the Imperial Empress, Kirin Yuki, is widely regarded as a guardian of the RMB. Once a self-made peacekeeper who held allegiance to no alliance, as of recently, Yukkira has increasingly become the understudy to the Sanada Clan when it comes to the affairs of the RMB. Newly appointed as the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Yukkira is part of the Executive Staff for nearly all the Ministries of the North Pacific, in addition to holding the rank of Private First Class in the North Pacific Army.
Besides prominent nations, Strangereal has four significant alliances:
Hotel Lala (HL): Headed by the nation of The Sanada Clan, the Hotel Lala Alliance is a haven for nations seeking refuge from the constant chaos of the RMB. Recently, Hotel Lala has demoted one of its long-time officers, Puczovska, for instigating a crisis in the Necerierrian-owned protectorate of the Akhara Islands. But in return, not only did it acquire a new officer in Illusia and Neverendia, but it has also acquired a new lieutenant commander in Yukkira. Hotel Lala would also like to extend a warm welcome to the Kilactic Regeneration, the latest nation to join the Alliance.
Imperialist League (IL): Formerly known as the Union of Capitalist Nations or UCN, the IL is led by the nation Hong Kong Empire. The Imperialist League works to spread the capitalist agenda throughout the nations of the RMB. Recently, the Imperialist League has been slowly losing strength as one of its officers, Lucedeia, was kicked for attempting to instigate a war with Hotel Lala and the Warsaw Pact. Also, the Lotion Empire also changed allegiances from being one of its officers to that of a member of Hotel Lala. Nonetheless, Hong Kong Empire perseveres in his mission and continues to recruit new nations almost weekly into the Imperialist League. Only time will tell if the League will continue in this way.
United Coalition of Pacific Nations (UCPN): Headed by the nation The Global Socialist Republic, until recently, it had remained as a neutral alliance with a peacekeeper-like mission before circumstances made it allies of both the Warsaw Pact and Hotel Lala. Presently, the UCPN is the primary sponsor of the UCPN Embassy Program, which recently was able to solve a crisis in Akhara for the most part, peacefully. The RMB has high hopes for the Program and has commended its leaders and founders for their good work so far.
Warsaw Pact (WP): Headed by the nation of Friently, its founder, The Sanada Clan, founded the Warsaw Pact upon the principles of brute strength is influence. Today, Friently continues to grow the Pact, having developed it to the largest Alliance in the region. Recently, it has acquired new members in Weltraumdeutsch and Necerierra, in addition to its protectorate, the Akhara Islands. The Warsaw Pact one of the oldest Alliances in the RMB RP community, and it continues to grow to this day.
Well, that’s it for this month’s RMB RP Reel. If you have any questions, concerns, or wish to learn more about how to get involved with the RMB RP community, feel free to stop on by and have a chat with us Or send a telegram to me (Yukkira)!. Just make sure to brace yourself for Puczovska’s wave of communism flyers, Kyoki Chudoku’s amazing but deadly cookies, and a daily dose of bewilderment because no day in the RMB is ever the same. You’ll get used to it though.
Hope you’ll read next month’s issue of the RMB RP Reel! Man, this is going to be so awesome!

By September 28th, the North Pacific had officially become #1. Currently, it is at #2 behind Europe, a region with an emphasis on regional endotarting, but the amount of effort and coordination it took to get to the #1 spot, even if momentarily, spoke to how great the North Pacific is.
The Spotlight #7: An Interview with abc
Owenstacey:: Welcome to The Spotlight abc. I am delighted to have the chance to talk to you a bit more and ask you a few questions.
abc:: Thank you for having me Owen. I am interested to see what you have to ask me
Owenstacey:: How did you come to start in Nationstates and The North Pacific in particular?
abc:: I first joined NS with the nation, Zoobles, which was founded in TNP. I read the recruitment telegram and made a forum account. After that though, I wasn't active on the forums really at all and created my region. Unsuccessful, I became inactive. Around 5 months or so later, I came back to NS with ABC. This time I decided to learn more about TNP and grow involved. I joined FA and was part of the diplomatic team to TEP with Brend0g among others. After staying in the TNP for a few months and falling in love with the region, I made a promise to myself to never leave which I hold to this day.
Owenstacey:: Regarding NS and the North Pacific, where do you see yourself in a year?
abc:: In a year's time, I see myself running for Delegate. Some may ask why I would wait so long and the answer is that I want to gain as much experience as I can before first running. When I eventually run for Delegate, I want to be as good a Delegate as I can be. The more experience, the better. (Don't hold me to this timing though, because it may be sooner or later)
Owenstacey:: What would you say your greatest strengths and weaknesses are?
abc:: For me, my greatest strengths are the ability to brainstorm ideas for improvement, to get acquainted with people, and to get things done timely and orderly...and though these are great, I still have my weaknesses. My most significant weaknesses are my wavering availability (meaning I may or may not be on NS when you need me) and my forgetfulness especially when I have important things going on in RL.
Owenstacey:: Who would you say you have looked up to the most as your idol in The North Pacific?
abc:: Honestly for me, my biggest idol in TNP would have to be Siwale. Now I know what you're thinking, they're relatively new, so how could they be my idol? I remember being (and still am) a little jealous of how well Siwale had done in TNP even when I joined the forums a month before them. Even so, their hard work to get where they are has encouraged me to work hard myself. Doing so has allowed me to gain the privilege of serving as this term's Minister of Home Affairs and has allowed me to work with many great members of the region.
Owenstacey:: Who is your favourite TNP Delegate and why?
abc:: I haven't been in TNP for too long to experience many delegates, so I'd have to say my favorite delegate is Pallaith. Under Pallaith, I have seen TNP grow so much and so much has been done. Their smart decisions for Minister appointments last term (and this term) have allowed previously dying ministries such as communications to thrive. I see their picking of new members who are eager to contribute to moving in the right direction rather than keeping ministers who have been around for a long time and have progressed their ministries as far as they can take them. For those reasons, I see Pallaith as a model delegate and therefore my favorite delegate thus far.
Owenstacey:: If you had to leave The North Pacific and create your own region, what 3 current citizens would you want with you and why?
abc:: Now this would be a hard decision. If I had to though, I would bring Lord Ravenclaw, Pallaith, and Siwale with me. I see Lord Ravenclaw as a great mentor for newer members of TNP, and their advice would be vital to the survival of that new region. Pallaith has progressed TNP so much as it is and I'm sure their decisions would also be able to advance that new region. Finally, Siwale is always ready with new ideas to help the region grow, and progress and their leadership qualities would make them an ideal addition to the region.
Owenstacey:: Good choices! What was your first impression of TNP?
abc:: When I first joined, I didn't understand how the region functioned at all and saw the leaders of the region as nations who new what they were doing and had been there for a long time (I estimated several years). I was very confused by how complex the region was, and it has taken me a long time to make sense of this complexity. Luckily for me, people have helped me along the road to give me a better idea of how the region functioned.
Owenstacey:: If you were to become Delegate what would your dream cabinet be and why?
abc:: Though I love the current cabinet, I would make a few changes for my dream cabinet. For Minister of Defence, I'd have to appoint Gladio, they have done so much for the ministry and have a deep passion for it that is unmatched. For Minister of Home Affairs, I would appoint Siwale as under their term the ministry grew so much and progressed to how great a ministry it is today. Then for Foreign Affairs, I think I would appoint Pallaith. Though it isn't that apparent, Pallaith has a vast knowledge of our foreign policy and has gained all the experience necessary to help our relations with other regions grow. For Culture, I would want to appoint SillyString. As a Deputy last term in Culture, I saw their deep passion for the ministry, and we were able to run so many events and get so much done. Under them, the ministry has thrived. Concerning Communications, I would appoint Brend0g. They have run the ministry very well so far, getting every edition released and I believe their plans for collaboration with HA could benefit both ministries and TNP as a whole. Finally, for WA Affairs I would have to appoint Sil Dorsett. The ministry has been run very smoothly under them, and I'd like that to continue.
Owenstacey:: Finally, if you were to be made Delegate of The North Pacific for a day and were free to do whatever you wanted, what would you do?
abc:: First things first, I would reform our foreign policy. Though our relations with large regions are very good, our relations with smaller regions are rather bad. I would instruct the ministry of culture to plan events with smaller regions whom we have embassies with and ensure that communications between both regions were solid. I would also allow both Embassies and Consulates. Consulates would be the same as embassies except that we wouldn't have an on-site embassy and we wouldn't appoint an ambassador to their region; they would just have one to ours. That would allow us to see how active those consulates were and decide whether or not we would like an embassy when they apply. That would also help ensure that all of our embassies were active and to our liking and there weren't any problems with them. Second, I would begin utilization of the communications ministry for other tasks. Rather than just (or mainly) writing The Northern Lights, I would also have the Ministry produce content for other ministries when needed (such as new recruitment templates for HA). This would help every ministry focus on its niche while utilizing other ministries to help it perform tasks that weren't exactly in the scope of the ministry. Finally, I would create an RMB Ministry. The RMB is so massive and needs a ministry to handle it all; HA can barely manage it as it is.
Owenstacey:: Thank you for taking some time to talk to me abc. It has been a pleasure.
abc:: Thank you for having me.
