With a total area of 147,557 square kilometres and a population of 11,543,129, it is one of the moderately-sized countries in the Western Isles.

The Charbagnian Federation is a federal state with states governed by State Governors under a central Federal Government. It is a Constitutional Republic in which the President, currently Kurt Weinreb, is the head of state and the Prime Minister, currently Marco Strobel, is the head of government. Executive power is exercised by the Charbagnian Federal Government and the Prime Minister on behalf of and by consent of the President who ensures the government is acting in accordance with the Constitution. Legislative Power is vested in the Charbagnian Parliament which is located in the Federal Palace in the City of Helmwerder. The judiciary is independent of the legislature and is appointed by the President.
The Federal Government is the executive body of the Charbagnian Government. It is the cabinet and is comprised of 16 cabinet ministers, headed by the Prime Minister. These members are the highest of all government ministers. These ministers (including the Prime Minister) are selected by the President from elected members of the Lower House of the Parliament. They are each given specific departments which they head; Ministry of National Defense Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ministry of State Security Ministry of the Interior Ministry of Finance Ministry of Transport Ministry of Communication Ministry of Industry and Trade Ministry of Culture Ministry of Education Ministry of Science, Technology and Energy Ministry of Health Ministry of Environment Ministry of Justice Minister of Agriculture Director of the Press Office
The Charbagnian Parliament is the national legislature of the Charbagnian Federation, it is bicameral, meaning it consists of two chambers. The lower house is the House of Ministers and the upper house is the State Council, both are located in separate chambers within the Charbagnian Federal Palace. Both chambers are headed by Speakers of the House.

The physical geography of the Charbagnian Federation is varied. The islands are mostly mountainous and hilly, with pockets of flat terrain mostly seen in the centre of the country or by the coast. The north of the island of Charbagnia contains the Federation's biggest mountain range called the 'Grandes Dents' mountain range, home to the mineral wealth of the nation. The tallest mountain in the Charbagnian Federation is Mont Gris, in the Grandes Dents mountain range. The river with the highest volume of water is the River Dieudonné in the North West of the country. The largest lake by surface area and volume is Traub in Altges.
The Charbagnian Federation has a warmer, Tropical climate. Average temperatures are around 15-25° Celsius. Charbagnia experiences short periods of heavy rain and damp weather, mostly experiencing dry periods throughout the year, especially in the summer with extremely low precipitation. Summers are usually very warm and winters are usually no different, maintaining a steady average temperature throughout the year.

The Charbagnian Federation has an upper-middle income mixed economy with larger reserves of natural resources, particularly oil and natural gas. It has a moderately-sized economy with an emphasis on primary sectors. The government plays a defined role in the country's economy, overseeing quite a lot of resource planning. Approximately 2.2 million of Charbagnians lived below the national poverty line in 2016 and unemployment in Charbagnia was 2.1% in 2016.
Dominating the Charbagnian Federation's exports abroad are oil, natural gas, metals, and timber. Since 2005, the exports of natural resources started decreasing in economic importance as the internal market strengthened considerably. As of 2016, the primary sectors accounted for 20% of GDP and 58% of the Charbagnian Government budget. The Charbagnian Federation's main exports are; oil, natural minerals, natural gas, machinery and appliances, hardware, processed minerals, jewellery, foodstuffs and timber.
Corruption is rife within the Charbagnian Federation's economy, with several sectors being dominated by corrupt hierarchies. Several violent protests have erupted across the country, denouncing alleged corruption within the Government and the state's support of corrupt corporations.

The Charbagnian Federation also has a large modern immigrant population, with many originating from nations such as Bhikkustan and Linaviar.
Since 2010, there has been an increasing concern over Xenophobic attitudes in Charbagnia, despite the nation's population deriving from immigration. Several occurrences of racial violence have sparked, causing division within the country.
The Charbagnian Federation has two official languages: mainly German (spoken by 42% of the population in 2014) and French (28%) in the north. The third official language, Charban, is a native language rarely spoken in the country and only really seen in the rural areas. It is designated in the Federal Constitution as a national language along with German and French but federal laws and other official acts do not need to be decreed in Charban.
