The Vangen & Skaug VS-71 is a 5.56mm Assault Rifle, developed by Svalbardian weapon design company, Vangen &S kaug, designed in the post-war era in response to new developments in the field of weaponry.

Capitalizing on new weapons technologies coming in from the East and the West due to the dissemination of German weapons in the post-war world, the Svalbardian government wished to create its own weapon for both itself and for export.
