FAQ

1. What type of role play (RP) does Austritaria do?

Austritaria is a realistic* real time political role play region. We assume control of our nations' characters**, leaders and diplomats and do politics, cause shenanigans and resolve or start other issues.
*realistic meaning realistic sized nations with realistic sized militaries, is in the modern era et.
**a nation's characters covers all characters from someone's nation. We can also take role of other individuals such as terrorists or businessmen/women. They don't technically have to be part of your nation for you to take control, just your creation.

2. What is role play?

Role play is basically pretending. We role play our nation's histories and events. You can have a look Here for more information.

3. Where/how should I start?

Take a look at this:

So you've moved in Austritaria and you're thinking to yourself, 'Wow! This place is amazing! But what should I do first?' Well worry no longer because this short dispatch will tell you what things you should and shouldn't do!

Apply to the delegate Korouse.
This is a must. If you don't do this you can't really consider yourself in the best region in the world. You should have received a welcome telegram when you joined, but if for whatever reason you didn't get one, you can find one here. Fill it in and send it off. You should get a reply within 24 hours, usually much less. Also please use the current world map in the regional factbook!

You're in! What now?
You should download LinkNS++ for your browser. It adds the frequently used Regional News feature as well as a bunch of other features. If there are any you don't like you can individually turn things off.

Now that you have the latest NationStates gadgets...
Say hi on the RMB. During your application you will have been allocated a place on the map. It takes a while to update the map because the guy who does it is a lazy bastard. So when you introduce yourself on the RMB, mention where you'll be staying.

What's next?
What you do at this stage varies, but here are some things we would suggest. Our RMB is a cornerstone of our region and getting used to our social side is one of the best ways to get settled in. Alternatively, we love hearing your RP ideas and discussing national history, economics, etc. If you think you've got a good RP idea, discuss it, write it, and go with it!

How do I start roleplaying in the first place?
Well, I'm glad you asked. Usually national events and such not worthy of an RP post are written on the regional news (NS++ required!), this includes context to said RPs and generally international activity as a whole. Events like turmoil and violence leading up to say, a revolution, or reports of a country having a controversial nuclear weapons program can lead up to bigger and more serious (perhaps ridiculous) circumstances in the future. Just like in real life, but instead you get to be Nigeria with a professional wrestler as your leader. Viva El Pene.

Enjoy the region. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the delegate or one of our regional officers.

4. Whose side should I join?

There is no 'side' to join... Kind of. While there are various organisations and alliances in the region there is no good side or dark side, that's a matter of opinion. One piece of advice that can be said is don't join the first person that approaches you. Consider their offer and history first, look at the others available and then make your choice.
These organisations and alliances can bring some benefits. Including safety in numbers, easier trade, unity. But it does bring disadvantages, such as responsibility to others, possibly following orders or even marching to battle for someone else's war. In the end it's entirely your choice. (West is best).

5. Can I take unclaimed land?

No, as stated in the Rules. But, that is the only land you cannot take. You are allowed to take land owned by another player. However, a casus belli is needed (the casus belli does not have to be legitimate, like many casus bellis in the real world). This also does not stop you from taking hostile action, I.E. blockading a nation or other such controversial diplomatic actions.

6. How do I pick somewhere on the map and how do I add cities?

To find the map, use the link on top of the Austritarian NationStates page or use the "maps" section on this website. Then simply decide where you want to live by picking one of the unoccupied spaces. You must then telegram Rio de fuego where you want to be.
Do not state where you want to live on the RMB or to someone who is not the mapmaker. As an added note, be patient about the map updates, as most of us are in school or have jobs in real life. If the mapmaker hasn't updated the map when he said he was going to, tell him that he's a lazy socialist for us.
To add cities to your nation, you can either telegram Rio de fuego a description of the location of where your cities are. Alternatively, you can draw a map on MS Paint or something with all the cities on that and he can copy it, your choice!

7. What's my economy like? Do I use NationStates values?

You decide what your everything is like (within realism and reason) and we do not use a single NationStates value. It's all decided by you. This includes population, economy, HDI, and literally everything else NationStates lists as well as what it doesn't list. Economics are very dependent on the type of resources you export and import, and in general the socioeconomic, political and military aspects of your nation. You can be dependent on oil, or you can be one of most popular sellers of it in an extremely volatile world with militaries that literally run on it. You can even be like China, a huge manufacturing powerhouse taking it's first steps into a diversified tech economy.
