Constitution of the Republic of Channel Island


We the citizens of the Republic of Channel Island, in order to form a harmonious and grand Republic, do ratify this Constitution of the Republic of Channel Island.


Article One: The Executive
1) The Executive Branch shall be led by a President, with their authority granted by a direct popular vote of the people
2) The President shall be assisted by a Vice President, chosen by the President-elect and confirmed by the Regional Assembly
3) The President may be assisted by Secretaries, with responsibility to individual departments
4) Upon passage of this constitution, the President shall have three departments at his disposal, the Department of State, Department of the Interior, and the Department of Defense
5) The President may, at their digression, issue executive orders to enforce laws passed by the Regional Assembly
6) The President may appoint members of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Channel Island, with the advice and consent of the Regional Assembly.
7) The President may also conduct foreign policy, close the borders for no more than three days a time, and command the Channel Island Naval Reserve
8) The President, Vice President, and their cabinet may all be impeached by a two-thirds majority of the Regional Assembly
9) The President is required to either sign or veto bills passed by the Regional Assembly
10) In the event the President ceases to exist, is impeached, or loses citizenship, the Vice President shall take over. In the absence of the Vice President, the Speaker of the Regional Assembly shall serve as Acting President


Article Two: The Legislative Branch
1) The Legislative Branch shall henceforth be known as the Regional Assembly
2) The Regional Assembly shall elect, from its own members, a Speaker of the Regional Assembly
3) The Speaker shall conduct official business of the Regional Assembly, documenting votes, opening and closing votes
4) The Regional Assembly shall be responsible for enacting the laws of the Republic, confirming the Cabinet and Judicial nominees of the President, and declaring war.
5) Every resident of the Republic of Channel Island shall be considered a citizen of the Republic and a member of the Regional Assembly
6)Legislative rules shall be established by the Regional Assembly at a later date
7) In the event of a tie, the deciding vote falls to the Vice President
8) The Regional Assembly may override a Presidential veto with a two thirds vote


Article Three: The Judicial Branch
1) The Judicial Branch shall henceforth be known as the Supreme Court of the Republic
2) The Supreme Court shall maintain no less than three members and no greater than five
3) The Supreme Court shall choose, from its own members, a Chief Justice to organize court documents and officiate the happenings of the Court
4) The Supreme Court may find laws and executive orders unconstitutional, and hold criminal cases for citizens
5) A Supreme Court Justice may serve for an infinite period of time, however the Regional Assembly may reconfirm them every 2 months
6) Supreme Court Justices may be impeached by a two-thirds majority of the Regional Assembly


Article Four: Rights of the People
1) Citizens of the Republic of Channel Island are entitled to the rights of Freedom of speech, expression, religion, and Protest
2) The Government of Channel Island may never enact a Law that prohibits the clause above
3) Citizens of Channel Island are entitled to a trial by jury at a date no later then one week after the accused crime
4) The Government may overturn Article Four, Section 3 in cases of high treason and in times of war.
5) Citizens of Channel Island are entitled to Participate in Regional Government.


Article Five: Electing Government Officials
1) Elections for the President and Speaker of the Regional Assembly shall begin on the 4th day of February, April, June, August, October, and December. From the 4th day until the 9th day there shall be campaigning and from the 9th day to the 13th day there shall be voting.
2) If no candidate reaches a majority of votes, a run off will be held
3) From the 13th day until the 20th day, the winners of the respective Presidential and Speaker elections shall become the President-elect and Speaker-elect to be inaugurated on the 20th
4) The Vice Presidents and Secretaries nominated by the President-elect but not yet confirmed shall be addressed as Vice President-designate and Secretary-designate, respectively.
5) The founder may conduct General Elections.
6) Special Elections may be called and conducted at the founders pleasure.


Section Six: Amendments and Miscellaneous
1) This Constitution may be amended and/or repealed by a two thirds majority of the Regional Assembly

2) This Constitution repeals the previous Constitution

3) This Constitution also repeals the Succession Act
