Military Tactics and Formation [WIP]

Formation [WIP]

[Note: This is very bare-bones. I will be adding how many companies in a battalion and what type of companies later. This goes for everything else in the Formation section of the factbook. This is mostly just filler for when I update this later.]

Squad/Fireteam

First I will go over one of the smallest units in the Freelundian military. The squad, it consists of ten to fifteen men and within it are split up into two or more fire teams of five men each. The following are the three most common squad types. Note that only the fire support squad has more than ten men. This is due to the fact they are split up into three fire teams allowing more ease with splitting up the larger unit, and as the name suggests they are a supporting element. It is their job to provide support fire from most likely a flank or further back from the battle. The other two squads are self explanatory.

A standard infantry squad consists of:

  • 1 Squad Leader

  • 1 Light Machine Gunner

  • 1 Demolitions Expert

  • 1 Gunner Assistant

  • 1 Ammo Bearer

  • 1 Combat Life Savior

  • 1 Designated Marksmen

  • 1 Grenadier

  • 2 Riflemen

A anti-tank squad consists of:

  • 1 Squad Leader

  • 2 Anti-Tank Specialists

  • 1 Demolitions Expert

  • 1 Anti-Air/Anti-Tank specialist

  • 1 Ammo Bearer

  • 1 Combat Life Savior

  • 3 Riflemen

A fire support squad consists of:

  • 1 Squad leader

  • 1 Heavy Machine Gunner

  • 1 Gunner Assistant

  • 1 Ammo Bearer

  • 2 Designated Marksmen

  • 1 Combat Life Savior

  • 1 Grenadier

  • 5 Riflemen

The squad leader is the commanding figure of a squad. It's his job to access the situation and guide his men into combat. He is equipped with a portable squad control computer, which looks like a tablet. It provides GPS tracking of his current location and the surrounding area. It is basically a portable electronic map. The squad control computer shows the location of the objective and other minor things.

One of the most important roles in a squad is the machine gunner. He provides suppressing fire for is squad-mates. Also, the machine gunner is useful for cover and advance. Most machine gunners or auto-riflemen are issued a MR4 machine gun.

A squad only has on demolitions expert which has a Lecher TK3 disposable rpg. This isn't enough for better armored targets or multiple targets. That is why one of the three or four squads in a infantry platoon specializes in anti tank warfare. They are equipped with a re loadable rocket launcher and also have a basic ground to air portable weapon system. Most of the members of a anti tank squad are equipped with either a TK3 or a rocket launcher.

(This leads to the platoon. The platoon leader is given a platoon control computer. Unlike the squad variant this one gives you much more information. It marks down locations of allied and enemy units, and is constantly updated. How it works is that it marks on the map NATO unit counters for varying types of units. The counter is either yellow, red, blue, or green. The blue indicates a Freelundian unit while green a allied. The red signifies enemies and yellow means your unsure if a enemy unit is located their or not. Each platoon leader can update it at will to display enemy locations to friendly men in arms. This one of Freelundians best weapons, and to insure it doesn't get into enemy hands the platoon computer is passworded and will be disabled if a unit is MIA or KIA.)

Counters used for control computers

Notice that it includes many things that the Freelundian military doesn't have such as assault guns. This is because the FAF wishes to cover any possible threats on the battlefield.
