Zeganas (zeh-gah-nahs) (Shikese: "Saizzaegara"), officially The United Republics of Zeganas, is a sovereign state and a constitutional federation comprising of the entire continent of Zeganas and the islands of Bornaeku, Navaso, Andrea, and San Angeles. It covers an area of roughly 10.95 million square miles, and as of 519 has a population of roughly 1.2 billion people, making it the world's largest country by population. It comprises of 27 semi-autonomous republics and the capital district, which only consists of the Zeganas capital tower and the adjacent great yard.

The current United Republics is the 3rd one in history, after repeated breakups and reunifications happened throughout the country's history since its inception in 234, before then, there were various countries in the Zeganasian continent and the Saishikara Empire/Kingdoms, the union had been formed as a way to compete with the native Saishikara Empire, eventually the North and South Saishikara Empire both joined the United Republics separately, leading to two separate republics.

Zeganas currently has a GDP of 78 trillion dollars, the largest in the world, and accounting for 42% of global economic output, and a GDP per capita of almost $65k dollars, the highest of any nation in the world. Zeganas also had an HDI of 0.953, the highest in the world with moderately low economic inequality, but still a very good standard of living. Most of the economic growth that Zeganas has experienced exploded in the 480s and 490s, and after a slight economic slowdown in the 500s, the economy is seeing a rebound with automated labor. Zeganas has recently become a champion of civil rights, for true equality of both the majority and minorities for equal opportunity, the economy has thrived the best in the East Coast Republics, West Coast, and the Saishikara republics.

Etymology

The name "Zeganas" comes from the Shikese "Zaeggan Dannas" which translates to "united beings" and it was a name as a common identity for the people of the United Republics, and eventually the continent got the name of Zeganas, and today it is the name of the whole continent and nationality.

On Nakolna, the calendar differs a bit from Earth as the year is shorter and the leap year rules are different, with the year being 320.58 days, or 87.77% the length of an earth year. With how precise the years and days have been measured, a leap day every 2 years, with an double-leap day on an alternating pattern, 12 years goes by between two double-leap days and 13 years go by for the next period between them, and then back to 12 years. Every 13,012 years the extra double-leap day is not added, except once every 270,000 years when the double leap day is added back on.

Each week is 9 days, the days are as follows: Newday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Middleday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Latterday.
Work weeks are usually 6 days, with days off typically being latterday, newday, and middleday. There is no Latterday on the 3rd week of 26 day months so instead the 3rd day off is saturday.

A day is divided up into 20 hours, 100 minutes per hour and 100 seconds per minute, a decimal form of timekeeping.

Geography

The United Republics has a very diverse set of climate zones and geography. In Bornaeku, Jenisica, Manasso, and Perchana, urban heat island effects have changed their local climate zones to be warmer throughout the year than normal. Along the west coast of Zeganas, warm tropical air naturally makes its way farther north thanks to a vast ocean with a lot of its water in the tropics and ocean currents + weather coming from tropical areas. Bornaeku and Altenaid have warm summers and mild winters, though things are a bit colder in the northern part of Altenaid.
The Punai Mountains have a major effect on climates in the republics of Tarko, Gara, Ohinita, New Kazata, and Punai. Although southern Punai is kept warm by tropical weather, and is the center of hurricane alley, the northern part is mountainous and typically, the listed republics have colder weather, with snowy winters going as far south as southern Ohinita. New Gara is cold as well, simply from the fact it's farther north.
In the middle of the continent, Norechik, Alkin, western Ulginland, and South Saishikara experience seasonal extremes, but year-round humid weather, this typically leads to the area being prone to tornadoes, most of them happening in northern Norechik and Alkin. The eastern part is prone to hurricanes and tropical storms in the autumn, and in the winter some northern storms can develop and come south.
Eastern Ulginland, Gerinland, Arnirvik, and North Saishikara have a colder climate, the Saishikara mountains and the Tiduso mountains have a big influence in the climate, but North Saishikara has a wetter climate, while southern Gerinland and Palanu has a drier climate. The Tiduso mountains are the highest mountain range on the continent. East of the mountains though, the climate is a bit warmer but still varies moderately, with cool winters and warm summers. Southern Norechik, Angeles, Fargen, and Punai are susceptible to hurricanes. Vetsao and Jenisica have warmer climates.

Zeganasian Wildlife
Since the planet of Zeganas is warm and somewhat unique, there are some interesting wildlife on the planet, first and foremost it's got many of the same animals as earth does, except in zeganas there are small dragons that can range in size from hamsters to large dogs, they can be kept as pets and typically have personalities that are a mix of birds and cats with a bit of a dog's playfulness and loyalty mixed in. They don't breathe fire.

The current racial makeup of Zeganas has diversified, even more than it had already been, since the turn of the century, attributed mostly to higher birth rates in the Saishikara region and in Bornaeku, making for a boom in the wolfian population, and great immigration of ninlaians.
The native Saishikara religion has gained traction in recent years as its supposed prophecies have been getting fulfilled by modern society and how it's evolving.

The military of Zeganas is by far the most advanced in its world, having a military budget of 1.583 trillion dollars and 2,745,700 active service members, with 4,053,900 in reserve. Military technology has advanced to where robotic and remote controlled warfare is what's mostly use in combat for when Zeganas is needed. The military has also had lots of money geared towards satellites and space defense. Zeganas is in control of the most nuclear warheads on its planet, with roughly 15,920 out of a total of 17,570 nukes either deployed or stockpiled. Zeganas currently has many embassies across the world that represent the United Republics as a whole, but individual republics may optionally establish their own consulates both within the other republics and with other nations. Zeganas has embassies in all of the 8 other nations on the planet, and has established some off world embassies.

There are certain republics which have established their own diplomatic presence around the world, including Bornaeku, Fargen, and South Saishikara. Nothing in the rule of law in Zeganas argues that republics can't represent themselves individually. In some cases the relations between one country and one republic may be different than that country and Zeganas as a whole.

Economy

The economy of Zeganas is diverse and largely self-sustaining. It had really taken off in the late 20th century after the Zeganasian civil war. The GDP per capita in Zeganas is almost 65 thousand dollars, the third largest on its planet. Many of its constituent republics have wildly varying levels of GDP and economic focuses.

The economic system of Zeganas is a mixed market economy with varying degrees of regulation between republics, the private sector is very large in much of zeganas but in certain republics, like Bornaeku, the public sector is large.

The largest exports are oil, information technology, and food as Zeganas has a large subsidized information tech industry, plentiful oil fields, and lots of fertile soil, particular republics like Alkin and Bornaeku are especially blessed with rich amount of these resources. Zeganas's export surplus is valued at approximately 273 billion dollars each year. Zeganas is known for its mining industry too, which has plateau'd in recent years but remains an important driver in the union's economy.

Unemployment is at 3.3% and is a bit of an inflated number because in Bornaeku, hobbyist working is common as they have a huge automated workforce that works for the government and each of their citizens get a bonus check just for living in Bornaeku, that is if they lack a criminal record.

Technology

Zeganasian technology has been rapidly advancing over the past couple decades, thanks in part to great government subsidization of research laboratories, but also because Imobayanism (the native Saishikara religion that 48% of zeganasians follow) has traditionally been interpreted as a very progressive and tech friendly religion. Technology exploded in 508 when in Bornaeku, an easy and cheap method of mass producing graphene was discovered, allowing for the mass production of cheaper and more advanced technology.

The tech equivalent of Zeganas today is what real life earth is projected to have in 2040. 508 marked the beginning of the graphene age in Zeganas, which revolutionized various devices, smartphones are widely available and are now cheaper than ever, supercomputers have become exponentially more powerful an have aided in fields like medicine, physics, and entertainment. Graphene has been used in newer low cost water treatment plants all along the coasts, making water a much cheaper and easier-to-get resource. Graphene has had a major impact in solar technology, bringing the costs of solar panels down greatly and allowing for the expansion of solar energy, especially in cities like bornaeku where solar cells clad many buildings.

Self driving cars are moderately prevalent, but they are very commonplace in public transportation. Trains don't have traditional conductors anymore, but rather built-in computers that connect in a network so that they can automatically perform tasks when needed, like when to slow down or speed up, and secure networks that can fend off hackers and easily catch the ones that can try and break through.

Video gaming recently went through a renaissance after the 518 invention of Complete Immersion Virtual Reality (CIVR) technology. Virtual reality that involves all 5 senses and temporarily disables motor functions in the real world.

Offworld Colonies
The United Republics has a very strong space program, with the Zeganasian space station being quite bigger than the real life international space station. On both of the moons there are small prospecting colonies in the polar regions as they stay protected from solar radiation and have proven ice water in the craters, currently in the making there are plans to build mining colonies on them, and to build a space elevator on Zeganas.

On the desert planet Dasnar, which is the third planet from the sun while the planet Zeganas is on, Nakolna, sits as the fourth planet from the sun, there are a few settlements in the southern part of the planet, it has a breathable atmosphere, but it can be very windy, with there being a dust season and a strong hurricane season. Hurricanes tend to be very strong because the waters in the southern region stay warmed up and the coriolis effect allows for systems to rotate greatly.

Culture

Culture in Zeganas is extremely diverse, being the largest country by area on Zeganas, it has a vast geography that has allowed many cultured to mix, develop, and come in through immigration. The most dominant cultures are the Baristolan cultures and the native Wolfian culture that have mixed very well in recent years at varying degrees to give each republic its own flavor. Interestingly, the republic of Angeles has a high immigration rate, with most of their people being descendents from the Ninlaians across the sea, so they've carried their own culture with them and it's been a huge influencer in Fargen too.

Cuizine

Just like culture in general, the cuizines and foods enjoyed around Zeganas are also diverse, many republics have their own staple pride dishes like Bornaeku is known for putting cheese on everything, and Saishikara foods are known for being many stirfries with exotic spices and meats, their dishes are quite open for modification as they see cultural mixing as creating a stronger culture than the sum of its parts. The most popular foods in Zeganas as a whole though, are pizza, spiced pasta-cheese bowls, and stirfries.

Thanks to genetic engineering and a sizable tropical biome, Zeganasian chocolate is bountiful and cheap. Despite how cheap it is, it's still considered a delicacy, as part of Zeganas's "cheap luxury" culture.

Recent genetic modification has also lead to grapes that produce aphrodisiacs, these grapes are used to make feel-good wines that are widely coveted, and the engineered genetics that produce these aphrodisiac chemicals is currently patented by the Bornaeku government. Bornaeku wine is popular all over the world.

Thanks to the University of Alkin, a lot of grasses and foods are exported from Zeganas, being the world's breadbasket and generating a lot of revenue for Zeganasian markets. With the bountiful harvests and advanced soil fertilizers used, Zeganasian food is very cheap and bountiful, but there is a tax on less healthy food put into place to encourage healthier eating.

Music/Fashion

A big thing that really brings zeganasians together is music, they're diverse but all in all, everyone knows how to get along between genres, EDM has become extremely popular but more recently, punk rock from the adanulin region has mixed in with it, causing a very popular wave of a punk rock-edm mix that has taken the world by storm, in republics like Punai and Tarko, electroswing has been real popular, and Bornaeku and Saishikara are known for their B-pop and S-pop.
Fashion has been heavily influenced by scene and emo culture, with spiked and dyed hair being highly popular with younger adult and teenage zeganasians.

Language

The majority of Zeganasians primarily speak wytonian (english), but a significant portion speak Shikese and Seguadan as their primary languages, in schools around Zeganas it's mandatory for wytonian to be taught as the primary auxiliary language.

Infrastructure

The infrastructure of Zeganas has rapidly developed over the past several decades, after the Zeganasian Civil War, unemployment was high so Arryn Symond created government agencies that can employ workers to rebuild cities and create an interrepublic highway that runs across the continent, more recently in the 510s, high speed maglev rails have been getting built to connect the republics and the most ambitious project proposed is digging a channel tunnel to connect the republic of Bornaeku with the continental united republics.

Zeganas has many of the world's tallest buildings, going through a skyscraper boom as the government employs many construction workers, and the coming demand for jobs is expected to be large as there was a recent secondhand baby boom from the one that occurred after the civil war.

In Zeganas, there has been an increasing amount of green energy consumption, though an interesting case for Zeganas's planet is that it's very late in its interglacial period (and is warmer than earth in real life) so temperatures have been steadily decreasing, to combat this, there have been efforts to manually and periodically burn fossil fuels to keep the planet's temperatures stable, which has been successful so far.
