FROM THE OLD UPDATE... (in a chronological order):

The Broken Kingdoms: - post 1 of 2
(NPC nation)

Farin's quest to reunite the kingdom of Withered Heath was cut short, unexpectedly, by the rise of a new faction, claiming Northern Rhovanion for themselves.

The scouts messages are quite clear .. Northern Rhovanion has full garrisons, and full garrisons of elves for that matter; Farin wasn't unsure how he felt about this ... so better to wait, rather than be harsh.

And send this message to the elves of Northern Rhovanion:
" Bid da greetings, ruler o'da Northern Rhovanion a'da Greymountains. 'Tis swell da have new faces around these harsh realms. But aint da Narrows of the mountain too cold for ya?

Me be only askin'cause ya see, me quest is da come back to Withered Heath and ya see, ya realm is on me way. Would ya be willin to let me pass, if time comes for me to pass and reunite with me kin, in Withered Heath? Not now, but maybe soon.

Say what? "

----------
Send message to The White Fanged Mountains king, offering a neutral first contact.

Kingdom of Arthedain:
(NPC nation)

Great battles require great sacrifices. And the battle of Rhudaur was more than the battle for reunification. Evil things moved in Rhudaur ... evil, unexpected things.

"Was the war between the realms of Arnor a means of furthering the Witch-king's policy of destroying the Dunedain?", Mallor asked himself. "It is pretty obvious.. " he pondered.

"The seeds of distrust and disunion, if they were to have started somewhere, Agmar's the place. And Rhudaur has been secretly receiving support from Angmar, all this time. I am sure of it."

But more proof is required. The remnants of the Hill-people occupying Rhudaur fled to Upper Rhudaur, and Mallor's in pursuit.

Mallor was, actually, so focused on this new objective, that he put less importance to the delegacy coming forth from the Kingdom of Gondolin. Time is of the essence, if they are to catch at least some of the higher-in-command that are currently en-route to Upper Rhudaur.
Mallor asked the delegacy to join him in his pursuit, in the hopes that they can find a time for talk and discussion in the next days; if not, he proposed them to wait for him at Weathertop, in Eastern Arthedain - as he's expected to arrive back there soon after catching those who's now after.

----------
Attack Upper Rhudaur with all forces.
Ask the delegacy from Gondolin to either come with him in the hopes he can give a reply in the near future, or wait in Eastern Arthedain for an answer by next update.

Darkmarshes Faction:
(NPC nation)

Agandaur waited for a reply from his dispatched scouts, especially from those sent towards the dominion of Rhun, but to no avail. Either they were lost, or they lacked the answer he desired. The scouts knew better not to return if they weren't bringing the news he wanted to hear, of fear of death.

But there's no time for waiting, as expansion awaits. Next on the list of conquests is Dagorlad, a place Agandaur calls home, as he was raised in a camp near the Dead Marshes so, so long ago.

----------
Attack Dagorlad with all forces.

Druadain Hill Dwarves: - post 1 of 2
(NPC nation)

The spoils of war in Ithilien were slim. "Maybe there's na nathin' good in da realm south of da mountain .. ", Whurfirlum thought.

But Ithilien was more than a spoils-of-war trophy. Ithilien was a strategic point, or even to serve as a jump-point for controlled-expansions to wherever the dwarves desired.

Keeping this in mind, Whurfirlum Greybeard was disturbed by his scouts, returning from the trip he sent them to, in the realms of the Unfettered. After reading the answer king Valinus offered him, Greybeard's face turned red, his blood started boiling and his nostrils were close to catching fire. "Da bastard!", he said. And then grinned.

"We be helpin' humans expand, help, bring da dwarf friendship nd dey ... do dis? Da ungrateful bastards. No man is worth me time anymore. Let da men fight among demselves, let da men craft deir own weapons, armors nd tools. And say this to da king of the Unfettered:"

"Da king Valinus, I be hopin' ta catch ya in good omen, but ya desire meets not mine. Thus, ya have da know dat me be waitin for you atop Emyn Arnen in Ithilien, if ya plan to either visit Ithilien or visit me. Eithar way, be waiting for ya, rest assured."

But Whurfirlum knew he was gamling, and maybe was gambling poorly. He felt surrounded on all sides ... alliance of men to the south, orcs to the east and west ... and elves to the north. He'd need some new friends, or else he could find himself in a locked position ... but whom to trust?

"Da ruler of Darkmarshes, Agandaur the Marauder,

Know dat dwarves nd orcs hath not good experience workin together, but dese migtha'be harsh times.

I be writing ta ya dis message ta discuss important strategic points ya might feel quite interested upon.

I believe ya seen dat a force of men is formin ta ya south, and dey hath no other way to expand othar than thru our realms. I propose ta choose the lesser of ta two evils, and ta work together.

After all, isn't Gorgoroth meant ta be yars, anyway?"

----------
Send message to the Unfettered
Send message to the Darkmarshes

Elves of Cardolan:
(NPC nation)

"Things just got more grim .... ", Elrohir thought to himself, after reading the most recent message coming from his friend Echtelion, of Gondolin.
Flashbacks of the horrors of the Barrow-wights of his own native realm ... it was less of a heads-on war and more of a psychologic war, one they barely topped the scales of. But in doing so, maybe they mustered some experience in this kind of warfare.

So now the following question rises ... "how do the soldiers of Cardolan fare in an open combat? Especially against an army of hardened orcs?"

Questions Elrohir had no answers to. But it was clear; further expansion was needed, as not to be caught in the crossfires. And with that, a message expressing intent.
"To my fair friend Echtelion,

The elves of Cardolan stand next to you, but commited to preserve the peace, even in the face of war.

Know that we have sent a formal declaration of war to the orcs near our borders, and that we are ready to aid you in case you require our help.

If you need further army coordination, please talk with my field generals, as I'm sure something suitable can be arranged.

But if nothing changes, please know that I am going to attack Dunland, so that it doesn't fall to the hands of orcs.

Sincerely yours,
Elrohir of Cardolan"

Sending the previous (and the next) messages put him in a bad place, but merely the thought of orcs trumpling in Dunland ... the thought of precious relics being recklessly destroyed, just for fun ... these thoughts weighted more deeply.

"To the ruler of the Tribe of the White Hand,

Please know that this is a formal declaration of war unto your people, and my intent is expressed clearly: if you pursue further expansion plans, you will be met by a worthy resistance.

I hope things do not escalate more."

----------
Send the two above messages to the elves of Gondolin and the orcs of the Tribe of the White Hand.
Attack Dunland with all forces.

The White Fanged Mountains: - post 1 of 5
(RP nation: The white fanged mountains, NS nation: The northern frost dragons)

Realms of Middle Earth,

We are the Clan of the White Fanged Mountains. We are composed of a mighty species, Frost Dragons. Unlike the stereotypical hoarding and burning dragons our fire drake kin has set, we are a peaceful species that do not wish for destruction. We may even have our kind among you(OOC: See Factbook in The Nomadic Peoples of The Northern Frost Dragons) We wish for no war to come to our people unless absolutely necessary. We will allow peaceful passage to anyone who asks through our territory(OOC: Yes to the NPC nation who asked for safe passage to their home). In short terms, Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and good with ketchup.

Chief Frizar of the White Fanged Mountains.

----------

The Broken Kingdoms: - post 2 of 2
(NPC nation)

Farin the Tall received word from his scouts dispatched towards Northern Rhovanion. The answer was quite positive, and their request was well met ... but something was troubling him. He didn't expect it .... but they were dragons. Dragons! In this day, and age ....

Farin felt uneasy. It is a well known fact that dwarves and dragons never were on good terms with each other ... with some of the most notable interactions between the two kin ending in tragedy for his race. He did not believe that these dragons were different than what he knew ... and it may take a miracle to turn his stubborn mind around. Still ... the answer he received from Chief Frizar had hope.

"Lets'a'build on da hope ... " Farin thought to himself. "And ta alleviate meh worries, and ta know better da dragons, send an official partey ta discuss possible future interactions. Maybe an alliance of some sort, if there's nothing ta suspicious. We'll'a see", dispatching the notes to his scribe, before turning his eyes to a map to the realm.

"Dragons en orcs. Mmmh. Orcs hath been spotted here, en here ... ", pointing to Mirkwood and Eastern Rhovanion.
"... not'ta'good sign, not'ta'good sign at all."

----------
Send another message towards the White Fanged Mountains, asking for more information about the dragons, their desires and inquire about a possible alliance.

Druadain Hill Dwarves: - post 2 of 2
(NPC nation)

Whurfirlum had one more message to be sent. He pondered, which of these will return an answer - if any?

"To da elf of da House of Fingolfin,

Ta legacy inspires me ta write ta ya. Ya be a great king, coming from a big family. Ta kin and me kin, albeit having differences in time, hath also great respect to each other. I ask ye, ya have aspirations towards ta realms of Rohan, Dagorlad, Mirkwood or ta eyes shift elsewhere - perhaps ta ya east or ya west? Or da north? 'Cause if ta eyes shift towards South, know that yer kin is welcomed on the plains of ta Anorien nd Ithilien."

----------
Send a message to the House of Fingolfin, with a desire to start some sort of (positive) interactions.

The White Fanged Mountains: - post 2 of 5
(RP nation: The white fanged mountains, NS nation: The northern frost dragons)

Frizar's messenger came into the throne with a message from Farin the Tall, asking for a peaceful meeting.
"Of course we can meet on peaceful terms. We wish no harm to the good folk of the world below. Send a message to Farin the Tall. Tell him that I agree to meeting him for negotiations between our people."

Move 100 Troops to Northern Rhovanion

Declare Allies with Broken Kingdoms

Frizar then paced in front of a map of Middle Earth, staring intensely at the moving orc hoards.
"These orcs of Angmar coming from the West do worry me though. They seem to be moving east into our new allies. Let us intercept them on their current path. If Mirkwood becomes a battleground for our people, we need to be ready for battle."

----------
Move 900 troops and Greyfus the Wanderer to the Heart of Mirkwood.

<Sir?> they replied
<Mordor is teeming with orcs, and we are few. Instead, we must march to encircle them. Turn the tusks of the Mumakil towards Harondor!>

The Kingdom of Angmar:
(RP nation: Angmar of the witch king, NS nation: The olog-hai)

What was this? Dragons?
They were all dead, the last true dragon slain by Bard the Bowman, a stinking man! And apparently, here they come, out if the mountains, supposedly neutral, yet cutting off Abgmar's expansion!
Thus shall not be forgiven quickly! But rumors show that they are making an alliance with multiple other nations, We'd have to be careful when wiping them out.
Reports showed that they were making a movement into the Heart of Mirkwood, to cut him off. Well, two could play at that game!
"Gothmog, prepare me the army! We have land to take! Send a diplomat to these filthy dragons, inquiring as to their movements in Mirkwood when they're supposedly neutral."
Rumors also held that a kingdom if elves had declared war on an Orc tribe, he would have to see if this was true. So, he sent out a runner, hoping he can get past the elves to parlay with the Orcs.

----------
All troops with leader to Western Mirkwood
Diplomat to the Frost Dragons asking why they attacked the Heart of Mirkwood when they're supposedly neutral.
Messenger to the Tribe if the White Hand asking for a diplomatic meeting.

The White Fanged Mountains: - post 5 of 5
(RP nation: The white fanged mountains, NS nation: The northern frost dragons)

"why have you come before us filth," Frizar asked the orc standing in his throne room.
The orc replied,"My master, the Witch King, inquires why you have moved into the path of his conquest when you are supposedly a neutral species."
"You were on the verge of cutting off my people from the world," Frizar replied," And let's face it, Everybody hates orcs."
The messenger hissed, and Frizar replied with a blast of ice, encasing the messenger in ice mid-shout.
"Inform the Witch King of Angmar," frizar told his squire, "Tell him we do not negotiate with orcs well."
he then pulled out his sword and cut through the newly frozen orc like warm butter, shattering it into millions of pieces of flesh and ice.

----------
Refuse any non aggression pact from the Kingdom of Angmar.

The Unfettered:

Valinus received the letter from the dwarves, scoffed, and threw it in the fire, writing up a curt reply.

Kingdom of Gondolin - SECRET POST!:
(RP nation: Old gondolin, NS nation: Eglamar)

(ACT I)
"- They dare ! Filthy orcs !" Ecthelion was furious. Orcs have captured Minhiriath.
"- I'll let them taste the bitterness of elven steel. Oh but they will shiwer in fear. It won't be a fast death. For now, set a garrison of 200 elves in Eryn Vorn. The rest marches with me to Northern Cardolan. And inform Cardolan elves about these movements. We shall do this to protect them from any Arthedain aggression. Cardolan should be able to concentrate on one enemy and fight together with us. Once the war is over we'll make a simple exchange of lands and they will be able to restore the Kingdom of Cardlan without problems. "
(ACT II)
Ecthelion hasn't received any answer from other countries. Even though he has sent elves to each kingdom, they were still traveling, at least that was the impression he got. Scouts were instructed to engage in diplomacy with all peoples except orcs.
"- Send new delegation of elves to every non-orc kingdom. Let them ride open with our flags and bear good news - "We wish peace and prosperity"."

ARDA NEWS, the unofficial news service of the RP :

Old gondolin wrote:OFF: If you want to write an article or give an interview, feel free to send me a message ;)

The Arda Daily - #2
SPECIAL EDITION: The Dragon Family
* Seven Days to Pass. One Paper to Describe Them All *

-> It's a Bird...It's a Plane...It's Chief Frizar of the White Fanged Mountains!

This week Arda was shaken by an extraordinary discovery of an unknown nation, of which there have been only rumors up until now.
" Clansmen of the White Fanged Mountains - as they call themselves - do not appear to be a primitive folk. - commented these news Uruk, an expert anthropologist from the Orthank Research Center (ORC). We are talking about an intelligent race, a proud race at that. They are basically dragons, which according to my theory has mutated and developed abilities to manipulate snow and ice. I mean, I would have developed those skills too if I had to clean my driveway every day from 2-3 meters of snow. You know, they live way in the North, behind the Wall of Grey Mountains. It's cold there, especially when winter is coming".

Many were puzzled why it had taken us so long to discover their existence. There are multiple theories to it. Some experts point out to their technological development, since they are second least scientifically advanced county in Arda. Others mention that they are the youngest race in Middle Earth, although they lack information on where they come from exactly. Lalei, ambassador from the Kingdom of Gondolin to the Clan of White Fanged Mountains, has just signed up a non-aggression and trade treaties with them, offered your author a different perspective:
"I come from Gondolin. One has to have guts to say that Gondolin was not developed or did not exist in Arda before it was "discovered". Same with our friends from the Grey Mountains. They just decided to announce their presence." Some, nevertheless, believe that there is truth in all these points. Frost dragons didn't have the reason to interact with the outside world. But now, threatened by the growing presence of dwarfs and orcs around grey mountains, they had no choice but to react.

And react they did. They announced their presence and their neutrality. Where this will lead will be seen later, but the status of neutrality may be unstable, since Frost Dragons have already aligned their development strategy with that of the Broken Kingdom of dwarfs. Is it a cruel plot to get treasures of Dwarfs ? Time will show.

-> Fleeing the North: a story of Smagus

Smagus, an old Frost Dragon, has asked asylum at the Tolfalas Elderly Care Center after his compatriots have voted in favor of new labor legislation, which resulted in many senior citizens being almost forced to do heavy manual labor. After a few days of such humiliation, Smagus - who has been a well known culinary expert up until his retirement - decided to flee from his country and search for comfortable life. Nevertheless, he is but an exception. Many senior dragons continue suffering. Reasons for this, as we shall see, are numerous, while the solutions are few.

Expert from the Golden Bank of Tolfalas, who asked to remain anonymous offered a following explanation:
"It's not a secret that they are facing an economic crisis. Economy has shkinked by 25%, income decreased, crime rates have tripled! At the same time their population stagnated over this period of time. I don't know a country in whole Arda where the government controls economy so much, so it wasn't a surprise to hear that they changed labor laws to make seniors work."

Did it work? Definitely. Statistics has shown an increase in economic output of the Draconic population, rates of unemployment are close to the lowest in Arda. But did it improve the quality of life for simple citizens? Hardly. Human Development Index has dropped by 2 points (from 47 to 45), position Dragons well behind such races as orcs (50 being the average), which tend to be less "human oriented".
To some the solution is simple. Government should give people more freedom to start their business. To others, however, it is more complex and requires senior citizens.

While Dragons debate and decide, Smagus is healing his injured joints on Talfalas beaches.
"I worked enough in my youth. Now I want to have some rest. A pity that I will have to spend my last days here" - nostalgically droped Smagus when your author was ending the interview. Hopefully Smagus will get a chance to enjoy his life in the Grey Mountains. But this will require some political changes, which are rather unlikely.

-> Healthy dragon - new paradigm for old Frost Dragons

Frost Dragons have invested heavily in the quality of life of their citizens over the last few years. And it hasn't gone unnoticed.

Recent study has shown that their death rate has decreased from 105 to 53 point at Big Surprisal Index, well below the majority of countries of Middle Earth (average death rate around 120 points). They've tripled the health indicators for their population, also well about the average.
How did Mr Frizar managed to achieve this? Our usual expert, Leaffruitia, an Entwife from Fangorn association “Children for Bright Future” offers her insight:
"Well, he invested heavily in the insurance industry. Have you seen it? His clan ranks 3rd in Middle Earth! Of course they will see their indexes improve. Actually, the only problem I have with their healthcare system is the fact that they shifted towards private healthcare. Don't you think this is the reason why the safety of that region has drop dramatically ?" - stressed Leaffuta while knowingly shaking her branches.

In the end, the health care problems seem to improve, which is a good thing. Mr Frizar's effort should be congratulated, but surrounding nations remain silent. Jealousy? Unimpressed? Who knows, only time will show...

NPC talk and decisions for next update:

The Broken Kingdoms:
(NPC nation)

Farin's scouts came with all kind of news; those sent to the White Fanged Mountains returned with great pride and with fastuous celebrations; not every day you interact with a dragon and live to tell the story. Or keep your coins. The news of their Alliance pleased very much Farin the Tall. And the news of the Alliance came at exactly the best time, seeing that not all of the scouts came with great things to report ...

The scouts from the North reported that a contigent of their brethren are still trapped behind the Iron Hills fortress, one that's guarded by the Iron Hill dwarves, Farin's long lasting enemies - so there's really no way to escape around the Iron Hills as the Capital of Withered Heath is in danger of raid by the cunning Iron Hill dwarves, and there's no way that a direct attack would succeed, due to the enemy's deep defensive positions.

A stalemate ...

But that's not all. As if the news of his trapped brethren was not enough, Farin just got hold off word that orcs are only a few miles away from his territories - to the west, and to the South. In two directions! And more to the south, one of the few remnant dwarfish civilisations inhabiting the realms of Anorien - themselves in great danger from orcs and humans alike.

"Dwarves're persecut'd everywher'...", Farin thought to himself. "Long passed da days when ya dwarf hath be worshipped as grreat craftman, soldier nd friend. Nowaday they da want our riches, no matta wha."

"Say, scribe, com'her. Write 'dis. To ar dragon friends. Ask ye if ye could assist dwarves with maybe half dey contigent of soldier for a quick attack on da Iron Hills, togethar. Bet dat tem dwarves currently residing in Iron Hills would scare and run, upon seeing da dragons. Dey don even hath to fight. Butta considerin' dem Iron Hills people, not fightin' is no an'option. Ask, ask ye them. Connectin our realms means quickier surplus of soldiers, means bettar defending of ar realms against outside forces, like dem orcs."

After finishing the note, Farin turned around. He was stared by a puzzling set of eyes ... Ahh, they were human! Humans from the South. How they managed to went past the orcish garrisons along the way was beyond his grasp, but he was more interested in the message they came here to serve. As it should be important, coming all this way to his kingdom.

"Aye, alliance 'nd mutual respect ya say? Alliance'rs not made out of a whimsly, ya know lad. Alliances'r precious things in da realm. Would ya be able to help me friend dwarf, dat one in Ithilien, in return for meh gratitude 'nd sword? I say, mutual trade 'nd some sort of a tri-trident army of da dwarves nd da humans, in case Orcs plan to attack either one of us?"

----------
Ask the White Fanged Mountain people if they are willing to assist in attacking together the Iron Hills - asking for an army of around 700 soldiers attacking together. If its something the White Fanged Mountains are considering or not please reply
Send the message to the Dominion of Rhun, asking for mutual defense between Rhun and the dwarves of Ithilien, and for possible attack against the orcs in case of need. If the Dominion of Rhun does not accept, then the Broken Kingdom will not accept an alliance with the Dominion, and the Dominion of Rhun has to re-discuss their alliance offer (as it was conditioned by the acceptance of an alliance between the Broken Kingdom and Rhun)

Kingdom of Arthedain:
(NPC nation)

With the King-in-Exile of Rhudaur eliminated, only a few enemy provinces have remained unclaimed.

And two more are to fall next.

----------
Attack two nearby provinces, with half of total amount of soldier to each

Darkmarshes Faction:
(NPC nation)

Agandaur the Marauder had all the realms over the mountains of Gorgoroth up to himself, and to his armies. But there was still room for more; specifically the Brown Lands and the Western part of Rhivanion.

Agandaur looked at his host of soldiers and understood that he didn't have (yet) the manpower to mount an attack on two fronts in the same time ... so, still, he had to concentrate all of his army one province at a turn. First was Western Rhovanion.

And with that, he felt he was close enough to another orc. The Witch-King they tell him by name. Feared, some say. Agandaur wasn't impressed, yet an orc in need is an orc indeed.

"So send word to his orc. His force looks migty enough to be worthy an interaction with. But beware - do not let yourselves be captured by spies along the way! The message has to remain secret. Ask if they are interested in working together, orc with orc. We need to cleanse some factions from around here anyway ..."
----------
Attack Western Rhovanion with all forces
Send message to the Witch-King of Angmar

Druadain Hill Dwarves:
(NPC nation)

Whurfirlum Greybeard received no reply yet from his messenger sent towards the House of Fingolfin. Without a firm contact and without a firm contract in the form of an Alliance, he found it close to impossible to attack the orcs further north. "Not when other eyes are on my home ... ", he thought to himself.

"Send again da message to the House of Fingolfin. Express ta them our best whatever best ya have ta say, to impress da elves ta offer a reply. It isa must."

----------
Send message (again) to the House of Fingolfin, inquiring about a working together, against common enemies.

Elves of Cardolan:
(NPC nation)

Dunland was theirs. Starting with Cardolan and now expanding west ... felt curious, yet satisfying. Old vestiges and relics ...

Elrohir's army reached the gates of Moria. He was tempted ... to go to attack the Redhorn Gate, or to stay and defend the realm in case of an orc-ish invasion?

Send a message to our allies. Ask them what should be our plan regarding our "friend" across the border. If things aren't too aggressive, then Elrohir planned to attack the Redhorn Gate.

"Oh. And insert this little note on our dwarf and orcish friends further north.: If dwarves and orcs have a non aggression-treaty, one that the orcs appear to respect, would that mean possible trouble in the west between the other races?"
----------
Send an emissary to the Kingdom of Gondolin, inquiring about their plans. Explaining to them that if they have no desire for war, then the Elves of Cardolan would attack Redhorn Gate.
