FROM THE OLD UPDATE... (in a chronological order):

The Broken Kingdoms:
(NPC nation)

The time for reconnecting is now. Enough expansion. And what's expansion when in the back the people revolt against you, anyway?

That's exactly what happened with Farin the Tall, and his realm. Going from the Withered Heath towards Dorwinion, through Rhovanion, has indeed turned quite a few heads. And some swords. And some humans fell. But as no stable government was left in place of what was before, it was quite easy for barbarians to take control of the few, dissipate garrisons throughout the realms of Rhovanion.

However, the barbarians are to find themselves again in the path of Farin and his dwarf-solders, as he decides to pay them a visit, on his way back towards Withered Heath. And this time, the government is to stick in place. Word already has been sent to the Capital to bring enough dwarf-force to begin construction of gates, armories, halls, and other significant buildings the newly to-be-conquered realm needs.

As if Farin knows that he'll stand unopposed ...
----------
Attack Middle Rhovanion with the whole army

Kingdom of Arthedain:
(NPC nation)

Mallor of Arthedain does not disappoint as a King. From his coronation until now he put the masses to a frenzy, citing claims of past and future glory; Inspiring the men to rise up and to claim what's rightfully theirs, all throughout the realms ... up until those residing in Rhudaur. Apparently they have no desire of reunification ....

... and this serves Mallor perfectly. What better reason to instill fear into those not in line with his rightful quest?

"Rhudaur is to fall."

The decision is made.

[earlier a few days ...]
Elf-scouts from the distant western realms of Gondolin have arrived early in the morning, and requested a meeting with Mallor and the High Council.

After waiting a fair amount of time, they were admitted entrance to the halls of the Fortress of Weathertop. After explaining the reasons of their arrival, Mallor had the following to add:
"I thank you for your words. I find your arrival here to be a sign of good-omen, as I feel that our desires have mutual interests.

It is true, my quest is known to all. It is the quest that lieth in the hearts of all men in this realm, and it is my birthright to pursue.

I ask you to stand beside me, while I claim my lost realms, and I will do the same for you, when the time is right."

----------
Attack Rhudaur with all forces.
Send Non-Aggression-Pact request towards the Kingdom of Gondolin

Darkmarshes Faction:
(NPC nation)

If you want to search for Agandaur the Marauder, you'd most definitely find him on the planes of Horseplains, at the Easterlings Camp. The Easterlings provide Agandaur with some of the well-needed brute force that he'd require, for the expansion that he seeks.

Studying the maps of the realm, the terrain, and the key objectives in a several thousand mile radius, making plans and mental notes - this was not a good time to disturb Agandaur. Yet some more pressing matters also came to his attention; a scout studying the southern realms came bearing news that the humans of Khand are getting closer, after successfully conquering Upper Nurn.

"'Dis might prove challegin', as their intention is unknown. We must decide if they're allies or foes. So send word to them, send word to da armie in Upper Nurn and ask for a formal stance from them towards us. From what I see it, men from Khand mightya prove to be valuable allies, even more than the Easterlings under my ranks. Go now!", said Agandaur, before returning to his maps.

"Aha! We march towards Eastern Rhovanion, then West."

----------
Attack Eastern Rhovanion with the whole army.
Send emissary to the Dominion of Rhun

Druadain Hill Dwarves:
(NPC nation)

No news came yet of the scouts spotted earlier, at the foothills of Ered Nimrais. And as waiting was not one of the strong traits of Greybeard, he send word that Ithilien is to fall. "We'lla mind bout da scouts later."

An attack with all forces is required to break the defenses of the human stronghold of Ithilien, and exactly this kind of attack Whurfirlum Greybeard has in mind.

But attacks are not the only specialty of Whurfirlum the dwarf. Tact diplomacy maybe not, but he'd consider having enough influence in the realm to demand some sort of answer from the humans of Lamedon. After all, isn't him the one of his kin that answered the call to come here and help rebuild the gates of Minas Tirith, for the humans of the realm?

"So send da word, scribe. Send da gifts. Gold, weapons of true-silver for deir king. Inquire of deir expansion plans 'nd remind 'em dat we hath no quarrel with dem, 'nd expect da receive same treatment, if not bettar."

----------
Attack Ithilien with the whole army.
Send emissary towards The Unfettered.

Elves of Cardolan:
(NPC nation)

Elrohir had, finally, reached a decision. He is to embrace the will of old, and unite elf with elf; He'd most certainly help Echtelion in his claim towards the Grey Havens, and would require, in return, a guarantee of his own realms and expansion.

"Times are dark ... ", he thought. "A friend in need is a friend indeed. And friends in need make good allies."

----------
Attack Hollin with all forces.
Send alliance request towards the Kingdom of Gondolin

Dominion of Rhun:
(RP nation: Gurthanc rp, NS nation: Gurthanc)

<Good> muttered the Chief to himself. <The parley has gone well, and our fellow men have agreed to never bear arms against us>
<What do you expect of this alliance?> snivelled the scribe
<Peace, and war.> Boomed the Chief, <One upon our friends, one upon our foes!>
-------------------Meanwhile, in the Sutherland-------------------
<We have the land of Mordor in a pincer grip. The pitiful barbarians there cannot stand against our might> Snarled the Warlord.
<What would we do lord?> Snivelled the Leuitenant

----------

The Unfettered:
(RP nation: Starrp, NS nation: The Starlight)

They were victorious in Anfalas, and Valinus celebrated with his troops, the proud flag of the Unfettered fluttering high above the parapets. He beckoned to his guards to allow in the emissaries, the first being from the Hill Dwarves. Valinus met them with a cool face, hiding the wrath within him. They had received reports that the dwarves were expanding, into the realms of Men. Dwarves were meant to stay in their little caves with their long beards and gold! He thought in his mind, his face revealing none of his thoughts.

"Welcome, master dwarf, to my hall. The Unfettered are victorious in Anfalas, and now, I turn my eyes west. West to Lebennin, West to the ancient lands of men, Anorien and Ithilien. But you dwarves occupy Ithilien. And that, I am afraid, cannot be borne. Leave Anorien, and do not touch Ithilien, is my warning to thee. While I welcome gifts, I do have quarrel with you. And if it will not be resolved in words, it shall be in cold steel and in blood."

Next was the Rhun emissary, and Valinus welcomed him warmly. "Of course, I agree to this non-aggression pact. The Children of Men should not fight each other, not in a world like this.

To the Tribe of the White Hand, Valinus proposed his plans, "Greetings, emissaries. My proposal is this, a non-aggression pact. If any armed force passes the Old Pukel Gap and attacks, then there will be war. But I have no need of your territory, and you have no need of mine. What say you?

Finally, he commanded a reorganization of his troops, 900 were sent to Lamedon and the remainder remained in Anfalas.

----------
Threaten Druadan Hill Dwarves if they do not cede Anorien and Ithilien.
Accept non-aggression pact with Rhun
Propose a non-aggression pact with Tribe of the White Hand, conditional on neither side crossing the Old Pukel Gap
Send 900 men to Lamedon.

Kingdom of Gondolin - post 1 of 2:
(RP nation: Old gondolin, NS nation: Eglamar)

Eryn Vorn was successfully returned to the Kingdom. Just when the celebration were to begin - for the elves of the region were rejoicing to reunite with their brothers from the Kingdom of Gondolin - the messengers Ecthelion had sent to the Kingdom of Arthedain returned. After they transmitted Mallor's answer, they joined the fest, while Ecthelion pondered looking on the sea. "No threat then. But wasn't he too fast? He didn't even deny his ambitions. On one hand it is good to have a king who knows what he wants. On the other hand, being so fast can mean one thing only - he is desperate. Desperate because he needs my support. Or desperate to turn my attention away... So... I guess I'll wait till I get the answer from our brothers from Cardolan" And so he joined the fest, resting after the battle in his mind and with his body.
--
Night has passed. Some elves were still chatting under heavy branches of pine trees, while early birds were starting to sing. It was then that the messengers from Cardolan have arrived. A messenger from Elrohir was bearing great news - elves were willing to unite and fight together against darkness. The conditions were acceptable. And Ecthelion had no reason to say no to his kinsmen.
- So be it. We will be glad to work together with our brother elves. He was sending back the messenger with good news in return. And bring Elrohir these gifts, added Ecthelion just when the rider was getting on his horse. The flag of our Kingdom, made by the elven maids on Elven Shores, and this sword, forged in the Gondolin of old days by the forger of the House of the Fountain, nowhere will you find gems purer that these, except for Silmarils and jewels of our dear Elbereth.
When the rider had left, Ecthelion was certain about his next moves. He summoned his generals.
- Now, my friends, it is time we work harder to protect our allies and the pass to the West. Galdor - he asked one of his aids. Tell me about current situation in Middle Earth.
- My Lord. We have successfully established last of our new trade roads with The March of Maedhros. We are in neutral relations with The Kingdom of Arthedain, which wants to reestablish the Real of Men of old days. Elves of Cardolan are our friends, though they will need our support should they face a threat in the nearest future. There are Orc Tribes near Isen river, and rumors have it they are strong and wish to expand. We have reports of Orcish activity in the North. It is yet unclear what is happening there, but they call themselves the Kingdm of Angmar. I am afraid that..
- that they are THE Angmar ? interrupted Ecthelion
- Y-yes... Apparently there are still elves in Mirkwood and Lorien. Maybe we should contact them?
- Perhaps. What else is there?
- There are also tribes of men around Belfalas, Dwarfs in their Mountains, and some say orcs near Mordor..
- Hm... Send scouts to all these lands. Tell them to bear a diplomatic flag, should they be targeted or threatened. I want them to be as careful and hidden as possible untill they reach the designated lands. There, they are free to engage in diplomatic relations with Men and Dwarfs. We wish peace and economic cooperation with them. With orcs, let them stay low and reveal their identity only if found. Then they can start talking about mutual neutral relations. As for elves, I want them to know that we are here as their brothers and supporters. Be open and warm. There are not many elves left, and we should remain together. Considering our distance and absence of previous contacts, I think it would be an inappropriate idea to offer an alliance right away. Make them feel safe about our intentions. Offer them unified economic zone with no tariffs and a security cooperation based primarily on information exchange - call it The Treaty on Inter-Elven Commerce and Information Exchange (TIECIC)".
The messengers were sent.
- Now we should deal with the Kingdom of Arthedain... And the Orcs near Cardolan.
To men, send them this.
"We shall accept your treaty under condition that you drop your claims on all elven related lands - Southern Arthedain, Cardolan, Dunland, Hollin. THese are the lands that were protected by elves for a long time. Elves live there, they take care of land, protect it. If Mallor agrees, tell him to send me a messenger with his flag, only then I will send him our flag in return agreeing to the non-aggression treaty."
To orcs, send them this.
"Greeting, masters of Isen. We are elves living to the east of you. No harm is done, no harm is intended. Do not enter elven lands to the East of you - Minhiriath, Dunland, Cardolan - and you shall know no war from us or elves of Cardolan. We would be willing to sign a mutual non aggression pact, and we shall negotiate with elves of Cardolan on your behalf. We shall be waiting for your answer with patience. Farewell!"

Making all these calculations was tiresome, but the work wasn't over yet.
- We are not done yet. The Kingdom of Gondolin is not restored. We March for Southern Arthedain today - it's time to reclaim our White Towers. And relocate our capital to Southern Lindon.
Next few days would be full of events.

----------
Send scouts to all nations as described in the post.
Attack Southern Arthedain with Ecthelion and 880 elves.

*thwack* *thwack* thwack* The sound of arrows slamming into shields was becoming increasingly familiar to Gharag Blacktoof as the battle progressed. These humans were nimble, refusing to engage his troops directly. They were inflicting casualties on his Orcish auxiliaries, while his Boyz weren't achieving much. With a snarl he turned to a nearby messenger. "You dere! Get yer shiny arse movin' and tell Captin' Oog ta take 'is Boyz and pillage da 'umies' town. That oughta get dem pesky gits ta stand'n'fight." The messenger nodded once and stormed off.

***

The battle was over, and Gharag's maneuver had succeeded. As soon as the civilians in the village had been threatened, the skirmishing force had been forced to engage the Orcs. In one fell swoop, their resistance had been crushed and the village had been destroyed. The survivors were rounded up, shackled, chained and sent back to Isengard to work in the slave pits. A reasonable haul, all in all, but Gharag had only just had his appetite whetted. "Alright yer stupid gits, stop yer bickerin' and move! Dere's more 'umies ta kill down tha coast! WAAAAGH!"

Noone in the army knew what to make of the Warchief, but the prospect of more conquests and more slaves was appealing. And thus Gharag led his forces onwards to Minhiriath. Meanwhile, several of the scouts had been discovered, although only the one traversing the coastline of Anfalas had been confronted. He was more than happy to agree to any kind of pact in order to save his own skin, although he wasn't sure if the Warchief would agree with the decision. But that was the future, this was now.

***

With greed and bloodthirst running rampant in Gharag's forces, noone noticed the keen-eyed Elven trackers trailing them down the coast.

----------
Army in Enedhwaith to move on and attack Minhiriath.
Accept non-aggression pact with The Unfettered.

The Kingdom of Angmar:
(RP nation: Angmar of the witch king, NS nation: The olog-hai)

The dwarves had agreed to peace.
This peace would be upheld. For now.
The elves were going to be an issue, but they were too nice, he'd get a warning before being attacked.
So, he moved out his remaining orcs to assault a region to add to his growing kingdom.

----------
All troops to Grey Mountain Narrows with hero.

Kingdom of Gondolin - post 2 of 2:
(RP nation: Old gondolin, NS nation: Eglamar)

- What?! Ecthelion was in rage. How dare they.
He just got the message from his scouts, sent to track movements of the White Hand tribes. Considering that the report was made some time ago - for there was distance to travel, the situation looked grim.
- They have been warned. And yet they still aim for elven lands. Send a messenger again. Should he return with news about Minhiriath falling to orcs - or not return at all - we will consider it as a declaration of war. And inform the Elves of Cardolan about it, we will need some of their help, albeit a small one.

----------
Sent a message to the White Hand with a declaration of war should Minhiriath fall to orcs.
Inform Elves of Cardolan about the possible turn of events.

ARDA NEWS, the unofficial news service of the RP :

Old gondolin wrote: The Arda Daily - #1
* Seven Days to Pass. One Paper to Describe Them All *
-> The Future of Arda
The Ancient Order is being tested. Recently we have seen an unprecedented number of expansions by different states all over Middle Earth. Our drughu Expert from the Tolfalas Analytic Center - called this "... the new age. Old powers have weekend, the new ones try to grow and this makes old nations either become more active or disappear. Overall, you could have expected this. I mean, elves - ancient but weakened folk by now - are leaving Middle Earth, orcs have grown in power of the last decades, and dwarfs have gotten rich and strong enough to pursue their ambitions. And humans.. Well, they were always ambitious, some would even say vain" He later added, while confidently walking down the stairway:
"Honestly, I hope they won’t touch our little tribe. Even though our Center is politically neutral, if anyone attacks my tribe, I'll curse all of them with my voodoo magic. They will know what real suffering feels like"
-> Dwarfs and Elves – political marriage or rediscovered love?
This week Arda was shaken by an unbelievable announcement – elves and dwarfs are friends again. The March of Maedhros of dwarfs and The Kingdom of Gondolin of elves have officially entered in an alliance. Either party is yet to issue a formal commentary on this matter, but general mood in these countries is quite positive. Searching for reasons of this sudden love, some experts point out to economic benefits; some stress on the importance of unity for these two members; others, however, see it only as a tactical step and expect bloodshed in a couple of years.
“Ya naw, tes dwafs und ulfs ar sily waitin fo a good momnt. Look what dwafs do wit orcs and ulfs wit those small cardolan ulfs ‘own ther. No good, I sai”. Commented a hobbit from the Shire, a country surrounded by dwarfs, elves, and men.
-> Elven Monopoly is Crumbling
Culture sector, the domain almost instantly associated with elves, is facing rapid changes. Recent study revealed that orcs and men are becoming more and more cultured: spend more time in concert halls, museums, cinemas etc. While elves – particularly The Kingdom of Gondolin – still hold the first place, the TOP5 ranking is as follows:
1. The Kingdom of Gondolin – elves
2. The Tribe of the White Hand – orcs
3. Dominion of Rhun - men
4. The Unfettered – men
5. The House of Fingolfin – elves
Is this a new trend? Some culinary and cinema critics point out at orc culture as the next trend in corresponding industries - “Miruvour is for my grandmother. You should try new Orc drought with Mordor flies essence. Orc is the new orange”.
Still, one should not expect these trends to change tourism industry since both Gondolin and Fingolfin states are the most environmentally beautiful countries and are leaders in tourism industry. Be as it may, today culture is an industry that attracts attention of many countries and elves should pay closer attention to it in the future if they want to remain its forerunners.
-> Unfettered and Unfruitful
Proud people of The Unfettered face some grim future. Recently their Parliament has adopted a piece of legislation banning genetic research, in particular for spiritual reasons.
“However, they have failed to take into account a few facts” – commented Leaffruitia, an Entwife from Fangorn association “Children for Bright Future”. “The Unfettered have the highest death rate in Middle Earth, even higher than the Orcs! They are the least healthy people on the continent, and their lifespan is the shortest. Genetic could help them find solution for different health issues. But not only did they ban genetic research, they also expelled corresponding researchers from the country.” She furiously shook her branches, but then added after calming down “Not that I’m complaining, since we took most of them in. They are forc.. I mean willingly contribute to developing stronger saplings for our forests”.
Some experts are more optimistic, like Dantor from NGO "Hor-Hor Ny-Ses Rohan – “It doesn’t mean that The Unfettered will die out. Or that they should rely on genetics to solve current problems. Nonsense. They just have to improve the quality of public healthcare and you’ll see, everything will be just fine!”
It is yet to see what policymakers of The Unfettered have in mind. Hopefully they have a plan, for current situation looks bad and banning genetic research didn’t help making it better.

NPC talk and decisions for next update:

The Broken Kingdoms:
(NPC nation)

Farin's quest to reunite the kingdom of Withered Heath was cut short, unexpectedly, by the rise of a new faction, claiming Northern Rhovanion for themselves.

The scouts messages are quite clear .. Northern Rhovanion has full garrisons, and full garrisons of elves for that matter; Farin wasn't unsure how he felt about this ... so better to wait, rather than be harsh.

And send this message to the elves of Northern Rhovanion:
" Bid da greetings, ruler o'da Northern Rhovanion a'da Greymountains. 'Tis swell da have new faces around these harsh realms. But aint da Narrows of the mountain too cold for ya?

Me be only askin'cause ya see, me quest is da come back to Withered Heath and ya see, ya realm is on me way. Would ya be willin to let me pass, if time comes for me to pass and reunite with me kin, in Withered Heath? Not now, but maybe soon.

Say what? "

Kingdom of Arthedain:
(NPC nation)

Great battles require great sacrifices. And the battle of Rhudaur was more than the battle for reunification. Evil things moved in Rhudaur ... evil, unexpected things.

"Was the war between the realms of Arnor a means of furthering the Witch-king's policy of destroying the Dunedain?", Mallor asked himself. "It is pretty obvious.. " he pondered.

"The seeds of distrust and disunion, if they were to have started somewhere, Agmar's the place. And Rhudaur has been secretly receiving support from Angmar, all this time. I am sure of it."

But more proof is required. The remnants of the Hill-people occupying Rhudaur fled to Upper Rhudaur, and Mallor's in pursuit.

Mallor was, actually, so focused on this new objective, that he put less importance to the delegacy coming forth from the Kingdom of Gondolin. Time is of the essence, if they are to catch at least some of the higher-in-command that are currently en-route to Upper Rhudaur.
Mallor asked the delegacy to join him in his pursuit, in the hopes that they can find a time for talk and discussion in the next days; if not, he proposed them to wait for him at Weathertop, in Eastern Arthedain - as he's expected to arrive back there soon after catching those who's now after.

----------
Attack Upper Rhudaur with all forces.
Ask the delegacy from Gondolin to either come with him in the hopes he can give a reply in the near future, or wait in Eastern Arthedain for an answer by next update.

Darkmarshes Faction:
(NPC nation)

Agandaur waited for a reply from his dispatched scouts, especially from those sent towards the dominion of Rhun, but to no avail. Either they were lost, or they lacked the answer he desired. The scouts knew better not to return if they weren't bringing the news he wanted to hear, of fear of death.

But there's no time for waiting, as expansion awaits. Next on the list of conquests is Dagorlad, a place Agandaur calls home, as he was raised in a camp near the Dead Marshes so, so long ago.

----------
Attack Dagorlad with all forces.

The spoils of war in Ithilien were slim. "Maybe there's na nathin' good in da realm south of da mountain .. ", Whurfirlum thought.

But Ithilien was more than a spoils-of-war trophy. Ithilien was a strategic point, or even to serve as a jump-point for controlled-expansions to wherever the dwarves desired.

Keeping this in mind, Whurfirlum Greybeard was disturbed by his scouts, returning from the trip he sent them to, in the realms of the Unfettered. After reading the answer king Valinus offered him, Greybeard's face turned red, his blood started boiling and his nostrils were close to catching fire. "Da bastard!", he said. And then grinned.

"We be helpin' humans expand, help, bring da dwarf friendship nd dey ... do dis? Da ungrateful bastards. No man is worth me time anymore. Let da men fight among demselves, let da men craft deir own weapons, armors nd tools. And say this to da king of the Unfettered:"

"Da king Valinus, I be hopin' ta catch ya in good omen, but ya desire meets not mine. Thus, ya have da know dat me be waitin for you atop Emyn Arnen in Ithilien, if ya plan to either visit Ithilien or visit me. Eithar way, be waiting for ya, rest assured."

But Whurfirlum knew he was gamling, and maybe was gambling poorly. He felt surrounded on all sides ... alliance of men to the south, orcs to the east and west ... and elves to the north. He'd need some new friends, or else he could find himself in a locked position ... but whom to trust?

"Da ruler of Darkmarshes, Agandaur the Marauder,

Know dat dwarves nd orcs hath not good experience workin together, but dese migtha'be harsh times.

I be writing ta ya dis message ta discuss important strategic points ya might feel quite interested upon.

I believe ya seen dat a force of men is formin ta ya south, and dey hath no other way to expand othar than thru our realms. I propose ta choose the lesser of ta two evils, and ta work together.

After all, isn't Gorgoroth meant ta be yars, anyway?"

Elves of Cardolan:
(NPC nation)

"Things just got more grim .... ", Elrohir thought to himself, after reading the most recent message coming from his friend Echtelion, of Gondolin.
Flashbacks of the horrors of the Barrow-wights of his own native realm ... it was less of a heads-on war and more of a psychologic war, one they barely topped the scales of. But in doing so, maybe they mustered some experience in this kind of warfare.

So now the following question rises ... "how do the soldiers of Cardolan fare in an open combat? Especially against an army of hardened orcs?"

Questions Elrohir had no answers to. But it was clear; further expansion was needed, as not to be caught in the crossfires. And with that, a message expressing intent.
"To my fair friend Echtelion,

The elves of Cardolan stand next to you, but commited to preserve the peace, even in the face of war.

Know that we have sent a formal declaration of war to the orcs near our borders, and that we are ready to aid you in case you require our help.

If you need further army coordination, please talk with my field generals, as I'm sure something suitable can be arranged.

But if nothing changes, please know that I am going to attack Dunland, so that it doesn't fall to the hands of orcs.

Sincerely yours,
Elrohir of Cardolan"

Sending the previous (and the next) messages put him in a bad place, but merely the thought of orcs trumpling in Dunland ... the thought of precious relics being recklessly destroyed, just for fun ... these thoughts weighted more deeply.

"To the ruler of the Tribe of the White Hand,

Please know that this is a formal declaration of war unto your people, and my intent is expressed clearly: if you pursue further expansion plans, you will be met by a worthy resistance.

I hope things do not escalate more."

----------
Send the two above messages to the elves of Gondolin and the orcs of the Tribe of the White Hand.
Attack Dunland with all forces.
