RULES
THE FOLLOWING ARE THE RULES FOR Steam Islands

Please note, following these rules will ensure a safe and happy time in the region for both you, and everyone else around you. Failure to comply can result in one of the following:

Thank you for understanding. The following are all the rules to ensure a fun and safe time.


Regional Message Board Posting
Names
Please try to stick to Nation names. I don’t care how much the two parties know each other, I don’t want any real names in the Regional Message Board. Fake names are okay. But please try to refrain from making them too close to real names and/or using them to make fun of a real life person.

Posts violating this rule will be suppressed. There will be no harsher punishments for this.

Role-playing
Please try to keep role-playing out of the chat. That’s what Telegrams, Forums/International Incidents, and the Discord are for. You can post links to them in the chat, but please don’t role-play in the chat. In Character (acting as your Nation) is fine, but no full on role-plays, please.

Posts violating this rule will be suppressed. If it persists too long, harsher action may be required, but I haven't had to do that yet. Please don't be the first.

Personal Information
Please keep personal information out of the chat. If you’re trying to tell it to someone, please do that in Telegrams. I don’t want to be responsible for anything.

First post will be suppressed. Second post will ask for moderator intervention. Further posts may result in further consequences.

Recruiting (Foreigners)
We are not recruiter friendly. If you attempt to recruit in the Regional Message Board, we will bar you access from posting. No exceptions.

Maps
Requirements
(There are Exceptions, so not all qualifications must be met at the same time.)
1] (Requirement) Must be active on the Regional Message Board.
2] (Requirement) Must have an actual flag (Not an image of a person or something. Don't need it to be on your Nation, but at least somewhere where I can get to it and put it in.)
3] (Requirement) Must have Valid LinkNationTraits™.
4] (Qualifier) Be a resident for at minimum Two (2) Weeks.
5] (Qualifier) Be an active Role-player within the Region.
6] (Recommended) Join the Official Regional Discord.
7] (Recommended) Have (a) FactBook(s) outlying your Government and Population.
8] Don't move here from a Raiding Region.

Claiming
You must meet the three requirements and at least one of the two Qualifiers. The Recommended are as they are called. If you have them, that's great, but if not, that's fine.

After that, I will need a few of the following things from you via Telegram.
1. Full Name of your Nation that you wish to appear in the table / on the Maps.
2. A Political HEX-Code / RGB-Code. Do not pick a color already on the map.
3. A Statement saying your Current Flag, or a link to either a FactBook or Image Sharer that contains the Official Flag of your Nation.
4. The Type of Galaxy you want.
5. Identification Tag for your nation. Look above.
You have now claimed a Galaxy!

If you want to be part of another Nation's Existing Galaxy, the following must be done (also via Telegram).
1. Full Name of your Nation that you wish to appear in the table / on the Maps.
2. A Political HEX-Code / RGB-Code. Do not pick a color already on the map.
3. A Statement saying your Current Flag, or a link to either a FactBook or Image Sharer that contains the Official Flag of your Nation.
4. The Galaxy you wish to part of.
5. Identification Tag for your nation. Look above.
6. A Statement from the Original Owner (sent via Telegram by them) stating that they give you the explicit permission to be part of their Galaxy.

If you wish to start a new Galaxy with someone else, do all of the following, and state which Nation(s) you wish to be paired with. They must do the same. If there are discrepancies, I will contact all parties and get a compromise.

Expansion
A Nation may expand its borders through a Cannon Role-Play (simply means it's been Approved). This can mean through War, Colonization, and/or Treaties. Can't do that? I may (very big if) allow you to expand by simply asking. But that would be in very tiny amounts.

Removal / Revoking
A Nation will be removed from the Maps / Tables through two ways, each with its own qualifiers.

1] LEAVING
{Nation} leaves the region for longer than one (1) Day (24 Hours). Leaving for longer will require you to go through the whole process, unless I never noticed. Then you may just very well get off the hook.
A Nation that has left will also be "Restarted", or put back to as if they were a new Nation. They will have to go through the application process again, as well as they will not be allowed to regain Territory they once owned besides through another Role-play or whatnot.

2] Cease-To-Exist
{Nation} has ceased to exist. Two (2) Weeks / Fourteen (14) Days will be allotted to allow for the Nation to return. Information will be removed after the two weeks, but will kept for up to one (1) Month. This will allow them to return with as minimal hassle as possible. After one (1) Month, I will delete all information and {Nation} will need to go through the whole process again if they are to return.

Usage
All Maps made by The United Socialist States of Vodkaslavia are property of the maker alone. No one else may use them for commercial purposes. Individual Maps may be available for FactBooks and the like, but only the Nation it is made for is allowed to use them there. Please do not use without asking first.

Usage
NationTraits™ is a Product of Vodkaslavia / EpicToaster1. They are used purely to describe Fictitious Nations, with a focus on FTL-Era Nations. It is extremely biased towards non-FTL Nations. While not the intended goal, it focuses more on the advanced than the behind. It's just the way it is. It's highly unlikely I'll make one for Pre-FTL. Maybe in the far future, but it's not more than a basic thought as of now.


Weapons
Conventional
Any weapon that is handheld and single-shot, slug-shot, semi-automatic, or fully-automatic, or an explosive device designed for death or damage, such as a landmine, grenade, rocket, or missile. Defined as using a bullet that stays intact (unless slug-shot) and causes damage to a person(s) in a humane way, or explosive that detonates for maximum damage or death.

Unconventional
Any weapon that is handheld/mounted and single-shot, slug-shot, semi-automatic, or fully-automatic, or an explosive device designed for death or damage, such as a landmine, grenade, rocket, or missile. Defined as using a bullet that causes damage to a person(s) in an inhumane way, or explosive that detonates to simply cause suffering amongst the victim.

Ground Weapons of Mass Destruction
Any weapon that is Atomic, Chemical, Biological, or other-wise highly Dangerous / Explosive. Before use, please get permission from the other party first.

Planetary Weapons of Mass Destruction
Any weapon that can alter a planet or a star in any form. Typically seen in the form of a “Planet-Buster”. Please try to refrain from using this, as they're not exactly the most fun of items due to many being basically god-modding. If you're doing it for a role-play, get the other party's permission first. If you are to have these, don't make them ridiculous. A nation that only owns one planet will not a Death Star, nor will a nation spanning an entire galaxy have five thousand Death Stars. Honestly, stay away from Death Stars. Keep it to bombs / missiles / ship-board weapons, please.

If you need to know what the weapon you designed is, please ask The United Socialist States of Vodkaslavia to check it for a Tag.

*Destroying landscape is one thing, destroying the foundation of the object is another.

As stated earlier, the Regional Message Board is not for Role-Playing. You can most certainly act like your Nation there, but please don't have a full role-play in the chat.

IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO DO ANY OF THE CALCULATIONS BELOW, you are not free from their wrath. I will do them for you, and if you refuse to use them still, I will force your nation to adopt any numbers I wish to use and that will be all you have for canon role-plays. If you decide you do not want to do the math on your own, you can find the information Linkhere (as well as for other nations).

Population
Determining Size
If you've reached this point, you've either already or are about to ask me about how many planets you have in your system. Understand, that not all planets will have your population on it, such as ones that are too hot/cold, Gas Giants, ones with no atmosphere, ETC. You'll receive a TOTAL PLANET COUNT. To calculate the approximate number of how many citizens your Nation has, take the total amount of planets and multiply by 20% (0.2). You'll now have a new number that is the approximate number of planets that harbor your population. (For more realistic results, you could multiply anywhere within the range of 10%-40%, but it's up to you ultimately.) Take the new number of planets you have and multiply by 12,000,000,000 (12 Billion). This number is the approximate number of people the Earth can sustain happily. Yes, some planets may have more and some may have less. You can deviate by up to 10% once you have your approximate population number to get a number you want, unless you're happy with your results.

Equations:
[Number of Planets] x [Number between 0.1 and 0.4] = [Number of Inhabited Planets]
[Number of Planets] - ([Number of Planets] x [Number between 0.1 and 0.4]) = [Number of Uninhabited Planets]
[Number of Inhabited Planets] x 12,000,000,000 = [Approximation of Population]
[Approximation of Population] ± ([Approx. of Pop.] x [Number above 0 to 0.1]) = [Total Population]

Use
Using the Information you have now quantified, you're able to make relatively accurate assumptions about your Nation. One with a small Population would not have a large Military, unless that Military is mainly Robots. But then, your Nation would need a lot of money to produce them, which would require high taxes since you have only a small base to get the money from. It's a delicate balance.

NOTE: All Numbers are in the SHORT SCALE (U.S., Canada, Modern British) System.
At this point, you should have done your NationTraits™. Using the Economic Systems, it will determine your overall abilities. Nations of a LEVEL 1 ECONOMY will have numbers running in the rough hundred trillions (100,000,000,000,000). Nations of a LEVEL 4 ECONOMY can be as high as the Septillions (1x10^24), maybe even low Octillions (1x10^27). Nations of a LEVEL 0 ECONOMY can be anywhere between Modern Day numbers as low as the hundreds (100).

Expect a Capitalist Nation to do more Exports/Imports than a Communist/Socialist Nation, which could lead to them having higher numbers. That being said, a Capitalist Nation is more likely to have a trade imbalance, which leads to more debt. Nations of a LVL 0 Economy would produce terrible products, so they would be more likely to have extremely high import rates and very low export rates.

If you would prefer, I (Vodka) can do the math for you. Just ask.

Inflation
All currencies are rated against the Inter-Galactic Credit (⩉). The Inter-Galactic Credit, to make things easier, does not fluctuate. Inflation Rates are to be determined by the Nation itself. There is no true way to determine it, nor is there anything that is bad from a low inflation rate. Rates above 20% (Extreme Inflation / Hyper-Inflation) or below 0% (Deflation) are bad in a sense, but can also be good. Deflation could mean that there's more competition, so all the prices of general goods drop, thus allowing more purchases per monetary unit and as such, a better economy. Hyper-Inflation is only negative, as that means that the monetary unit is losing value faster than the goods can handle. LVL 0 Economies would be more susceptible to Extreme Inflation and/or bad Deflation. LVL 4 Economies would be less likely to have it happen, but the effects would be more devastating if it did happen.

Conversion Rates
All currencies are rated against the Inter-Galactic Credit (⩉). As such, the Inter-Galactic Credit is essentially the "Dollar" of Steam Islands. Strong Economies would have Stronger Currencies. Weak Economies would have the opposite. Similarly, high Inflation would have Weakish Currencies, while lower Inflation would have Strongish Currencies (debatable by Economics). A Nation with very little Economic Power (such as closed Foreign Markets) would have significantly lower currency value than one that is the Economic Powerhouse.


Discord
Rules
On the Discord Server, there is a channel labeled #rules that is to be used for all rules corresponding to there.

Joining
We would much prefer it if only our own Nations joined the Discord server, although Nations in Embassy Regions will also be accepted. Users who are not of our Region that are inactive for too long risk being thrown out. Rule Offenses will also be harsher for Non-Citizens.
