Overveiw
The Miklanian Air Force is the dedicated aerial warfare branch of the military. Their missions include air defense, air superiority, air transportation, and space operations. In addition, they are responsible for operating and maintaining Miklania's small but secretive nuclear arsenal. The Air Force is a semi-independent department of the Army, with their own uniforms, chain of command, and budget. The Air Force has proved itself a valuable part of the nation's defense since the First Imperial War, where they fought with distinction and proved to the entire region that air power was as important as any other, and that Miklania was the undisputed master of the skies.
The Miklanian Air Force since then has continued to grow, and has expanded beyond its humble origins. It now fields not only the most advanced aircraft in The Western Isles, but even top tier special operations teams and advanced research groups. The Air Force maintains the largest military base in Miklania, Kecskemet Air Force Base, which includes a sprawling live fire area used by all other branches. Recent acquisition of state-of-the-art fighter and support aircraft will continue to keep the Miklanian Air Force in its place as the best Air Force in the region.
Organization
Commands
The Miklanian Air Force is organized into Commands, each responsible for a specific set of operational assets based on role. The various Commands are organized under the overarching leadership of Air Staff Headquarters. Certain Commands are further divided into sub-commands. The Air Force Commands today:
- Air Combat Command
- - Fighter Command
- - Bomber Command
- Air Mobility Command
- - Tactical Airlift Command
- - Strategic Airlift Command
- Materiel Command
- Space Command
- Nuclear Forces Command
- Special Operations Command
- Education and Training Command
- Air National Guard Command
- - Interceptor Command
- - ANG Airlift Command
Numbered Air Force
Numbered Air Forces are tactical echelons directly under a major command. Each is created to provide management and control for Air Force units within a given geographical area or theatre of operations. NAFs are directly assigned operational units such as wings, groups, and squadrons.
Wing
The wing is the largest permanent tactical echelon of the Miklanian Air Force. A wing is composed of all the squadrons of a specific role at a particular base. For flying wings, this would include the aircraft group as well as the operations and support groups attached to that group.
Group
A group is a sub-division of the wing that incorporates all squadrons of a particular type in the wing. For example, in an aircraft wing, there may be three groups, the aircraft squadrons group, the support group, and a possibly an operations group. If a wing only has one aircraft squadron, that squadron is not considered it's own group. However operations and support squadrons, even if there is only one in a wing, are always organized as a group. There are also independent groups, which are support, logistics, operations, or medical units that work independently of a wing, but are not large enough to be granted wing status themselves.
Squadrons

The squadron is the basic operational unit of the Air Force. A squadron is composed of multiple flights of aircraft or personnel, and is usually commanded by a Lieutenant Colonel or Colonel. Squadrons are always of a specific type and role. Multiple squadrons are be grouped together to form the larger Air Force units.

Air/Missile Defense Systems
The Miklanian Air Force operates several systems designed to protect the nation from attacks from the air, space, or sea.
Key to this defensive is the outpost on Miskolc Island. This previously uninhabited island is home to a massive missile defense site, with an Aegis radar station, smaller air search arrays, and a variety of missile systems to defeat ballistic, satellite, cruise missile, and aircraft threats. The site also features an extensive anti-shipping system, including underwater torpedo launchers.
Other installations throughout the country provide air defenses for cities and military bases. All air traffic is monitored by an overlapping and redundant system of radar arrays, operated by the Air Force, some in cooperation with civilian flight agencies.

Nuclear Arsenal
The Miklanian Air Force is responsible for maintaining the nuclear capabilities of the nation. Exact details regarding the warheads that Miklania possesses are unavailable to the public and to other nations. Available information shows the weapons are divided into two types, Havoc class, the smaller type designed to fit in cruise missiles, and Destruction class, larger tactical warheads dropped from aircraft or fitted to ICBMs. The government has officially stated that 19 tactical thermonuclear warheads exist, although some suspect that there are more. Some suggest that there are more of these small warheads, while others suggest that there are also large high-yield warheads. Evidence to suggest the existence of these large warheads have all come from Contingency Díoltas what some conspiracy theorists believe to be a cover for a doomsday weapon. Díoltas has never been officially acknowledged by the government, and most believe that it is just a hoax. It has also been claimed to be a Navy project, and therefor would fall outside of the traditional nuclear program.
