Guide to Role-Playing

Hello!

If you are reading this then you are probably here to find out how to get started. Role-Playing is quite fun, but it's sometimes difficult to know what to do. This document will help show you where to begin. If you have any questions, please telegram someone or ask on the RMB!

Firstly, you will want to develop your nation's character. Some things you could do...

  • Make a map

  • Consider what your nation's culture is like

  • Write out a basic history of your nation

  • Think about how, based on its history, your nation might react to different situations

  • Once you have some ideas, go to your region page and click "Factbooks" and you can write down your ideas for everyone to see

If you want to do something, but are not sure where to begin, here are some ideas...

  • Put up a news article discussing an event in your nation

  • Send an official statement or request from your government to another

  • Talk about a controversial law that was passed in your country

  • Explain a new military program

  • Make some other interesting story that will get others engaged and allow for some interactivity between nations

  • Try writing from the point of view of a citizen, rather than always from the government

Some tips and other things...

  • Make your country have its own style

  • Don't be too unrealistic or unreasonable

  • Its fun to use fancy politician words

  • See things happening in other nations and respond to it

  • Be honest and courteous about things

  • Keep track of when you are saying things in and out of character

  • Don't keep others waiting for responses. If you are busy, say so

  • Do some research! Seeing how things work out in real life will make your nation much more realistic and respectable

  • Be enthusiastic and have fun!

Helpful tools:

  • LinkName LinkGenerators: Creating people necessitates creating names. For those of us who have countries containing cultures that already exist on Earth, there are ready-made generators that can create names for people. Both of the generators that I've linked to are not perfect; they don't have all of the same options, names may be limited for some cultures, and the Behind the Name generator doesn't give patronymics to Russian names. However, they're easy to use and are incredibly helpful for naming people.

  • Roleplaying Guide: This is a helpful dispatch written as a general guideline to roleplaying.

  • LinkDay of the Week Calculator: This will help you figure out what day it is on what date so we're not just picking out of a hat.

  • LinkFlag Maker: For those of us who aren't experts in an image editing program, this will be very useful. This software allows people to create flags; all modern countries have flags.

  • LinkConstructed Country Generator: This tool will calculate population statistics given different social/environmental variables.

  • LinkG.Projector: Convert between map projections, make pretty globes for your factbooks.

  • NS Military Realism Thread: This thread is a help to everybody whose country has a military. Be sure to go in with an open mind and plenty of ideas and/or questions. Be sure to check out the other realism consultation threads as well.
