On the 16th of September 2006, a region was created to be the temporary residence for one new nation to discover what happens when you deliberately choose the worst options in daily issues. A few weeks following its creation, the region unintentionally started to grow with the arrival of five unsolicited nations known to the region today as The Original Five.
Within days, nations of this fledgling community began contemplating their own development, as so many others before. They set up the necessary resources, debated obstacles and course direction towards establishing regional common laws and policies, all in the interest of fairness and equality. An established means of recruiting was put in place, followed by the need for security, rank and position. What had once been intended as being a simple dwelling for one little, curious nation, had taken on a life of it's own.
Absolution slipped away from the top ten largest regions list in 2012 after a six year run.
Noted for its fierce dedication towards neutrality and independence, Absolution is also known for being the home of NSTracker. A popular third-party profiling tool among players since 2005. All major decisions regarding this international tool are discussed and voted on by regional members.
Absolution does not impose initial prerequisites for membership. If you're present, you're a member.
Most residents today have been in the region since 2007 - 2008 - 2009 and have seen for themselves the ride the region has taken.
There's a reason most older regions settle down in NationStates and Absolution today is more community driven for casual interaction. Wishing rather to travel their own path.
Chosen randomly from a large set of bold text within a newspaper headline that just happened to be laying around, Absolution has never held to any religious or otherwise spiritual context or belief system as a whole. Individuals may do whatever individuals feel like doing towards spiritual regards and may interpret the meaning of the name any way they choose, but the truth is, it was random.
The region was almost titled the French word "Oubliette". Though not chosen, the word has lended itself to the one phrase which has always existed within Absolution's World Factbook Entry; a little place of forgetting.
Absolution is governed, maintained and managed by the people with tools, resources and placements available to help interested nations get to the front of the pack.
The Founder of Absolution is not the ruler by any means. The Founder of Absolution is a Host position which sits as a Minster of Council just as any other member with no special Council privileges. Any interested member is capable of proposing ideas. With enough support, they may pass a vote. This is what drives the governance of Absolution. Not so much the person as the people supporting them and their ideas.
New nations posses new ideas and we'd like to hear them.
When you think of Absolution think neutral independence and sovereignty. We are most likely the oldest and most dedicated neutral environment you will ever find or have heard of within the entire scope of NationStates history.
Nations have the right to govern themselves free of outside influence and interference. This is what appeals to a lot of our members. We simply don't ask anything of you and we leave you be. If a player wishes to get involved however, they may get themselves very involved but giving the player their space is really what it's all about.
Our policy is from 2007 and ties in with our neutrality policy towards NationStates Interregional affairs. Absolution will not attack, defend, represent or judge the interests, opinions or actions of any other region and/or community. Absolution will not form or participate in military packs or form embassies for use within NationStates. How odd.
Challenged twice in 2014 alone, this unique quality of the region was overwhelmingly voted worthy of retention and to date Absolution has never once entered into any negotiations with anyone. Though many still try.
We've never had much in the way of laws in Absolution though not because no one's ever tried. New and existing laws may be proposed and/or challenged by any nation of the region from their very first day within The Council of Nations. Subject to a vote.
Under no circumstances will any nation representing Absolution or otherwise threaten or harass any other domestic or foreign body. The penalty for this depending upon review may be a banning. Which is bad. Inciting the harassment of others is also bad and tends to interfere with digestion. Be kind. Rewind.
There are currently three policies which govern Absolution. New and existing policies may be proposed and/or challenged by any nation of the region from their very first day within The Council of Nations. Subject to a vote.
Absolution has always maintained an open border policy and accepts all nations. This includes nations of contrast. No nation should ever be persecuted for their political alignment, history, flag, motto or personal views.
Nations are considered to possess the inalienable right to equal consideration and representation from their very first day. Nations are considered to be sovereign and have the right to run their national affairs free from outside interference, pressure or judgemental persecution.
Absolution will not attack, defend, represent or judge the interests, opinions or actions of any other region and/or community. Absolution will not form or participate in military packs or form embassies for use within NationStates. Military organizations are confined to roleplay interaction only. No RMB wars.
World Assembly Policy
No nation shall ever be persecuted for not participating in the World Assembly...Period! World Assembly nations may vote individually on World Assembly repeals and resolutions in any manner they see fit and do not under any circumstances need to reveal nor justify their vote.
Any regional World Assembly member so inclined to submit a proposal to the World Assembly has the right to do so.
Absolution's Delegate is not concerned with Security Council proposals as this violates the region's neutrality policy but is able to assist with all General Assembly submissions.
Nations do have the right to participate independently on Security Council issues but will not receive support from Absolution.
