Siegbahn Armaments [Rostil V4]

Slogan:
Adapting for the Future of Warfare

Founded: 1899

Headquarters: Anthold, Euro-Asia

CEO(s): Ben and Christiane
Collingwood

Siegbahn Armaments is one of the two premier military firearms manufacturers in Euro-Asia, its chief rival being General Resource LTD. It was one of the main firearm manufacturers for the Euro-Asian military during the Great War and beyond. It was from Siegbahn that the first submachine guns were created, known as the Mags series, and used to great effect in the Great War.

History:

Origins and The Great War
The Siegbahn Firearms Company was established in Anthold, Euro-Asia in 1899 by Reinhold von Siegbahn after his wife Annelie died, leaving only him to care his then two year old daughter, Marion. The company was originally founded to manufacture and sell firearms to hunters and private owners as a means to financially support Marion and himself. Despite the economic recession of the 1890's, the company flourished by 1910, allowing Reinhold to earn a fortune in profits.

War. The Mags-A
served as the basis
for the LinkMags-S,
Link-SG, Link-T and Link-TA
models.

When the Great War broke out, the Siegbahn Firearms Company was commissioned by the Euro-Asian Parliament to build firearms for the Euro-Asian Army and Marines. They initially made Russo-Spanish Ostrov Armory 1898 rifles under license. In 1914, one of the company's lead designers, Leon Schmidt, upon seeing the carnage in the trenches of the Polish Front, decided that the military needed a new type of firearm. Knowing that the Maxim machine gun was too heavy for troops to carry with them in an attack, and the bolt-action Ostrov 1898 rifle had too slow of a firing rate, he decided on a light-weight, rapid-firing gun. After a year and a half of development and testing, Leon Schmidt presented the Euro-Asian Military with the first in the Mags series of submachine guns, the Mags-A under the Siegbahn name, effectively putting it on the map of Euro-Asia's military industrial complex.

Using the Britannic Lewis machine gun as the design's starting point, the Mags-A was the first submachine gun to be used by any military. Its entry into service was just in time as it was first used to great effect by the Euro Asian Army in the Battle of Katowice in 1916 as one of the counters to Belkaland's Sturmtruppen (Stormtroopers). The Russo-Spanish Imperial Army would too use the Mags-A, starting use in the Battle of Katowice's latter stages and throughout the Northern Front. Over time, the basic design would be modified and improved to create the Mags-S, -SG, -T and -TA models by the time the Beusuan Campaign started in October 1919, with the enlarged Mags-SGF and Mags-TAF machine guns in service by 1917 and 1919, respectively, as mounted guns for bombers and reconnaissance aircraft, and for two-seat fighters.

Siegbahn was also one of the companies to license produce what would become the Mabrycg Arms Company's famous LinkLancaar Anti-Tank Rocket Lances from its introduction in 1916 to the end of the Great War. The company would again license produce Lancaars when the Schayne Plains War broke out thirty years later.

The Inter-War Years and the Schayne Plains War
After the Great War ended, Reinhold von Siegbahn began preparing his daughter, Marion, to succeed him in running the company. Due to Marion's experience in the Great War, as a former member of the Euro-Asian Army's 22nd Infantry Division 2nd Regiment 10th Squad and a veteran of the campaigns in Gallipoli and Asran, the Battle of Katowice, the Northern Front, Battle of Płock and the campaign in Beusuandille, she was the perfect choice to lead the company and create new military firearms based on such experience.

In 1929, Marion got married to Hedley Newton, a wealthy businessman and founder of the Newton Ammunition Company, who helped the Siegbahn Firearms Company grow in the past and also had experience in the Euro-Asian Marines, fighting on the Northern Front, on Port Royal Island and in Beusuandille. In 1932, at the age of sixty-one, Reinhold von Siegbahn had a stroke and died. Marion assumed control of the company and continued her father's work with help from her husband, Hedley. In 1933, Siegbahn merged with the Newton Ammunition Company to create Siegbahn-Newton, with both Marion and Hedley as the heads of the company, respectively.

The early 1930's were considered a rough point in time for Siegbahn-Newton. Even though they made some profits in exports to Zhong Wenming in its war against the Sunese, and to the Eslovaks when tensions were rising with its southern neighbor, Hälsingland, the company was losing money and was in stiff competition with the Mabrycg Company, Maxwell Industries and the then recently formed Lubystry Arms Company. Unless if they made something new for the military, Siegbahn-Newton would be facing bankruptcy.

In 1934, Siegbahn-Newton created the Viper pistol, which turned out to be a great success for the company, selling it to both the military and civilian markets. Designed by Mack Varnham, the Viper series would serve in the Euro-Asian military up through 1955 when it was replaced by the Roman Beretta M1951.

In 1935, Siegbahn-Newton's lead designer, Leon Schmidt, presented the Euro-Asian and Estainian militaries with a new submachine gun, the Mags-MX series. These new submachine guns were a major improvement on the earlier Mags models used by the Eurasians and Russo-Spanish in the Great War and the 1920's, with a higher rate of fire and a larger ammo magazine size. However, it suffered from jamming and failures in chambering and shell ejection, causing the Euro-Asian Army and Marines to dislike the -MX, because for soldiers on the front lines, such little mishaps could easily spell death.

Despite the -MX's drawbacks, it served with moderate success in the Roman Civil War on the side of Eurasian forces and in the Adrianic War on the side of Estainian Imperial Army forces and Zhonese troops in Zhong Wenming.

The Mags-M10, the first in the Mags-MXX
series and the basis for the LinkMags-M10R,
Link-M20, Link-M20R, Link-M30 and Link-M30R
models.

In 1937, under very stiff competition from Maxwell, Lubystry and the then very recently established Zechmeister Armaments Company, Siegbahn-Newton's Leon Schmidt designed and created an improvement on the Mags-MX series. The result was the Mags-MXX. Using lessons learned from the -MX series, improvements included an elongated barrel that gave the -MXX even greater rapid-fire capabilities than the -MX. The -MXX series also had a water-cooled system and fully retooled action that yielded smoother firing. This essentially got rid of the jamming and failures in chambering and shell ejection that plagued the -MX series. Doing away with those mishaps allowed soldiers to fight with one less thing to worry about. They were used to great effect by the Eurasian forces in the Roman Civil War, by the Zhonese forces during the Adrianic War in Zhong Wenming (alongside the troublesome -MXs), and by the Eslovak forces in its war against Hälsingland.

In 1943, Renée Cloet, a Darcsen and one of Siegbahn-Newton's then newest designers, created a new series of submachine guns, known as the MAJ-X series, inspired heavily by the Californian Thompson Light Rifle that was designed and put into service with its respective military two years earlier. Developed as what is best described as a "powered-up" version of the overall Mags line, the MAJ-X's initial designs called for it to fire reinforced shells, which caused too much of a strain on the gun's body to maintain its durability.

and the basis for the MAJ-M2, -M3, Link-M10,
and Link-M20 models.

Instead, Siegbahn-Newton crafted special bullets that caused secondary damage to the target upon impact. Though this succeeded in increasing damage, the new rounds were prone to jamming while chambering, a problem that was ultimately solved by limiting the number of rounds held in the firearm's magazine.

The MAJ-Xs served with distinction in the Schayne Plains War from 1947 to 1954 in both the Euro-Asian military and the Estainian Imperial Army. Overall, the MAJ-Xs served in the Euro-Asian Army and Marines, in the Estainian Imperial Army and in the Polish-Lithuanian Army.

The Cold War era
Following the Schayne Plains War, Siegbahn-Newton continued to flourish. In 1957, it bought out one its chief rivals, the Lubystry Arms Company. In 1958, the company unveiled its first assault rifle, the T-Mag MX series, as a replacement for the Zechmeister ZM SR series assault rifles that served in the Euro-Asian Army and Marines in the Schayne Plains War. Designed by Schayne Plains War veteran, Thaddeus Travis, the T-Mag MX was created to replace the Zechmeister ZM SR-3 assault rifle, the Maxwell Industries Rewalt series semi-automatic rifles, the Zechmeister ZM Kar X "Francisca" carbine rifles, both of Lubystry's Squall and Hurricane series light machine guns, and Siegbahn-Newton's MAJ-X series.

Unfortunately, the T-Mag MX was not a great success, as it was prone to failures and was too complex and difficult to maintain in the field, despite efforts to improve it with the T-Mag M2. Production of the T-Mags did not last long, with production ceasing in 1959, with only five hundred of the M1 and M2 made; it was Siegbahn-Newton's first failure. In 1960, Siegbahn-Newton entered a partnership with Belkaland's Belkan National Armory to produce its StG-55 selective fire 7x45mm battle rifle under license. It was a gamble that paid off, as the StG-55 became a great success in the Euro-Asian Army and Marines. It served with great distinction during Euro-Asia's involvement in the Dorian Civil War that started in 1979 and ended a few years later. The partnership is still intact to this day.

In 1962, Hedley Newton passed away, leaving the company's control solely to his wife, Marion. However, Marion's health was also failing, she prepared her daughter, Christiane, and her husband, Ben Collingwood, to take over the company. In 1965, Marion Newton suffered a heart attack, forcing her to leave her company, never to return; she died in 1967.

In 1968, Siegbahn-Newton entered a partnership with the Prussian arms manufacturer, Mauser, to create components for the BK-27 revolver cannon for use in the MRCA (Multi Role Combat Aircraft) program that ultimately became the ERB Tornado strike aircraft that would be used by Euro-Asia, Rome, Belkaland, and eventually, Estainia.

Due to age and declining health, Siegbahn-Newton's lead designer, Leon Schmidt, left the company in 1970; he passed away in 1973. Mack Varnham retired in 1972 and passed away in 1980. By 1973, only Renée Cloet and Thaddeus Travis were among the last of the designers from the 1930's, 40's and the Cold War era. Cloet and Travis would later leave the company in 1987 and 1998, respectively, their passing being in 2006 and 2014, respectively.

Post-Cold War era and the Present

The end of the Cold War in 1979 brought about great change in the industry. Military budgets were downsized; many of the old designers such as Schmidt and Varnham left due to age and declining health and/or passed away. For the time being, the future seemed uncertain.

In 1986, Siegbahn-Newton bought out one of its chief rivals, Zechmeister Armaments. At the time, Zechmeister was suffering from the lack of business in the military industrial sector in the 1960's, 70's and 80's, which was further compounded by the post-Cold War budget cuts. However, Zechmeister was one of the companies under consideration by the ERB consortium for the manufacture of a cannon for what ultimately became the Useafighter Taifun air superiority fighter. However, with the buying out of Zechmeister, and with Siegbahn-Newton's partnership with Mauser, the BK-27 was to be the cannon of choice for the new aircraft.

In 1994, reflecting the upcoming start of the new millennium, Siegbahn-Newton changed its name to Siegbahn Armaments. By the beginning of the 21st century, Siegbahn's only rival was Maxwell Industries, which was still going strong at this point. In 2002, the company renewed its partnership with the Belkan National Armory, thus continuing to produce their weapons under license, including the P2000 pistol.

As of the present day, Siegbahn continues to license build the Belkan National Armory's weapons. The company renewed its partnership with Mauser earlier in 2019, allowing it to license build, not only components of, but also build BK-27 cannons domestically. The domestic BK-27s will be used in newer model Tornados and Taifuns, in General Resource's JS-38 Ascender II stealth multirole fighter, and the in-development ERB strike fighter meant to replace the Tornado.

With Euro Asia's revival after its civil war and the Fourteen Day War against Esto-Alisonia, Siegbahn is looking to the future and what it might bring, with the military industrial conglomerate, General Resource LTD. as it's only rival in the present day. With the nation's revival, a new generation of designers are stepping in to move the company forward.

In March of 2020, Siegbahn unveiled the S3000 assault rifle as a replacement to the StG-55, which was license-produced by them. The S3000 is designed to have parts commonality with the General Resource LTD. GR2100k and the Belkan Heer's current assault rifle. It is expected to begin testing and integration into the Euro-Asian Army and Marines in November 2020. The Republic of New Edwardia has also expressed interest in the S3000 as a special forces rifle, and eventually a replacement to the M16A2 assault rifle. In September 2020, Siegbahn revealed the SPX-45 .45 ACP semi-automatic pistol, including the SPX-45 Tactical for use in the Euro-Asian Army and Marines as a replacement for the BNA P2000 and Walther P99 9mm pistols.
