August Writing Contest: Friday Night Firefight

"Goood Morning Aurora City! Yesterday's body count lott-" Cursing the car's radio man to himself he would change it to Linksomething else. The man would sigh as the radio changed to something he could listen to without wanting to go psycho. "Another day in this city of hell," he would think to himself. He would drive down the long highways of the city, half of that spent in traffic, on his way to his twelve, no fourteen, no he wouldn't even remember how long the shift was because it all blended together. All he knew was he woke up at dusk and will go home halfway after dawn in his soulless job in the Corpo Center of the city, and he'd be lying if he didn't say he hated it but stayed for the pay.

As he drove his way down the highway to the Corpo Center he would notice a big explosion, usual until then- He would slam on the breaks as hard as possible, but it was too late and his car would go flying. As the car landed, it would land right next to some wreckage of another car, he would quickly unbuckle his seatbelt and would jump out of the car to use it as cover. He would quickly notice something, a corpo businessman, holding a gun in his hand, using the wrecked car as cover. The man would quickly yell out at the corpo to try to understand the situation,

"Hey! Rich fatass! What have you suits gotten into this time that has caused such a scene?"

The Corpo would look over at him, surprised to hear another voice, "F*ck you think this is my fault? Damn gangsters planted a bomb in my car and blew it up!"

The man would sigh, sounded about right for one of Aurora City's Gangs, "Yeah which one of them did you f*ck over today?"

A few shots would ring over the Corpo's head, and he would fire back, before turning to the man, "What do you think I keep f*cking tabs on all the gangs in this city? Looks like Vortex, doesn't f*cking matter, they're probably after your body too after your car flipped over them!"

The man would peak out of his hiding spot, he would see ten, f*ck fifteen or more of the gangsters, whoever they were, this man must've been a demon to them. Then, he would suddenly see a stray shot hit his car, igniting a fire in the engine. "F*ck! Guess we've got to be friends!" He would quickly open the glove box in his car and would pull out a gun he was keeping for emergencies, and it looked like this was exactly the scenario. He would then maneuver to take cover behind the same car as the corpo.

"You've got some iron! Say what's your name street boy?"

The man would glare at the corpo, "Kade what's it to you?"

"I'm Haruno, pleased to make your acquaintance." The corpo would say with the same trained corpo voice.

"Yeah, Yeah, Whatever Corpo," Kade would peak out of cover, aiming at a Vortex gang member, taking two shots and knocking him cold to the floor dead, before hiding back behind cover, "Hey, did you bribe ACPD to save your ass yet?"

Haruno would give him an angry glare, "I'm sorry does everyone think I have the ability to bribe ACPD upon thinking it or something?"

"Yeah, isn't that the whole point of being Corpo scum?" Kade would respond.

"No, that's not how it works, you idiot," Haruno would hold off from saying anything worse, he would then peak out of cover, and then blind fire three shots, killing another Vortex gang member, and injuring another.

"Dang! Nice shots!" Kade would complement, being honestly surprised that any corpo could have such good aim.

The duo would begin to cover the other as Kade would shoot in Haruno's direction, and Haruno would shoot in Kade's direction. Despite their mutual distain for each other, they would begin to gain some type of respect that could almost be seen as a friendship in the heat of battle.

Kade would shoot a Vortex Gangster attacking towards Haruno, and Haruno shooting a Vortex Gangster attacking towards Kade. As bodies fell flat to the ground, the other would notice and give a good compliment or just a head nod every now and then. Fifteen gangsters would fall to ten, even when reinforcements arrived and attempted to flank them out of cover, Kade would manage to shoot their tires out and Haruno would give them a few shots to their car's engine, causing a mighty explosion.

As the number of gangsters fell from ten to eight to five to three, and finally both Kade and Haruno ending taking turns from peeking out of cover to shoot the last three dead. As the last Vortex Gangsters fell down to the floor, Kade and Haruno would look at each other, exhausted. Kade would speak up as they fell back to the pavement of the road, "Well, they're finally dead, phew, maybe you aren't as bad as I thought."

"Likewise, mister." Haruno would turn on his phone and send message for a private car to arrive, "Let's get moving, Vortex won't quickly forget this location. I'm certain they're coming for the bounty on my head. I've called for one of my many escape cars to pick us up."

"Damn fanc-" Kade would cut himself off, looking at his burnt-out car, "Thank you mister. What a Friday."

"For your troubles, I will wire you some credits for the trouble, it's the least a man like myself can do. Give me your phone number and I'll have it to you before Monday."

Kade would look at him surprised. He would attempt to say something but wouldn't be able to before the escape car arrived. "Get in!" Haruno would shout, right after the both of them got in Haruno would drive them off into the distance.
