Grand Feline Admiral of the State
Grand Feline Admiral of the State is the title of the official resident cat of the Prime Minister's Office and the Naval Headquarters in Szbedansk. The title grants its holder several powers and privileges such as being referred to formally as His/Her Grand Grace. Much of this privilege is for formalities and the incumbent Grand Feline Admiral of the State rarely exercises its privileges.
The practice of keeping cats in the Kanzlian Navy Headquarters for pest control began in the early 1600s. The first recorded feline of note was a cat named Myu who served in the 1660s. However for the next three centuries, the presence of cats at the Navy HQ was inconsistent with periods without a cat present. Historical records are also often vague and incomplete.
The position of Grand Feline Admiral of the State was officially established in 1934 by Queen Trystan II, well known for her affection of cats. Her love for felines had captured the public's imagination and in a move that was really popular amongst Kanzlians (even among republicans), she granted royal recognition to the cats serving at the Navy HQ.
The Royal Decree of Feline Recognition formalised the position and grants it official status and benefits. The Grand Feline Admiral was entitled to 5 square meters in the Kotr Palace (inherited), medical services, right to a state funeral, and even classification as an honourary member of parliament. The position is still limited to one cat at a time, with succession determined by the Minister of the Navy upon the death or retirement of the incumbent.
In 1985 during the White Paper Crisis, the interim Prime Minister Admiral Willem van der Meer made the decision to bring the then-Grand Feline Admiral Mya II into the House of Parliament. When Admiral Willem van der Meer resigned, Mya II was moved to the Prime Minister's Office where future Grand Feline Admirals would stay until today.
