Griffindor's 21st Fortnightly Update

This dispatch was originally sent as a Regional Telegram on June 30th, 2024:

Greetings, my fellow South Pacificans!

It has been 15 days since my last Fortnightly Briefing! Now, without further ado, it is time for another fortnightly briefing! The region has seen activity remain relatively stable since the last Fortnightly Briefing, so let's discuss it!

~~~~
First: The Assembly has seen continued activity following the burst of activity I reported in the last briefing.
Yes, there is one new item: an amendment to the World Assembly Act that seeks to repeal the impact (or rather lack of effects) of declarations on the region. The amendment argues that the World Assembly Security Council does not pass enough declarations to warrant the provisions on our lawbooks (and the ones that get voted on are often weak or unserious proposals). I argued against a similar proposal during the previous redrafting of the World Assembly Act a few weeks ago and was able to remove it then. This edition has met more resistance and is unlikely to pass, but stay tuned as always!
The Assembly discussion on the decreased activity within the Assembly continued. The debate changed toward desiring a mentorship program to help newer players (unlike what I had running last year). There was also discussion of reintroducing Ministry staff and/or making it a project-based assignment system. This topic will undoubtedly continue to unfold, and it will be interesting to see where it goes!
The last item being debated in the Assembly is a minor amendment to disallow any raiding on an ally of the South Pacific to be considered for CRS membership. The amendment is currently at vote and projected to fail. The main argument for the amendment is that no CRS member should be allowed to serve if they raided an ally of ours. The main argument against the amendment is largely that it is splitting hairs. Interestingly, the opposition largely didn't come to fruition until after the proposal was at vote.
Second: Your most favorite Delegate, ME!!!, was interviewed by our Minister of Culture, Virifortis/Silva! Read the full interview below:
Introduction
Hello residents of The South Pacific! Today we have the region's own Delegate, Ebonhand, for our weekly interview! Thank you in advance for agreeing to participate in this interview, as it helps (a lot) the Ministry of Culture to develop and leave a more developed culture in the region!
PS: If you want to participate, send me a DM on Discord (silvae_) or if you have any questions.
Questions and Answers
1. How did you find NationStates?
I searched for a nation simulator roughly 12 years ago and landed upon nationstates.
2. Is this your first nation?
no, my First Nation was “the republic of griffin” which now exists only in my current nations motto
3. When did you create this nation?
I created that nation in 2012; it CTEd shortly after
4. How did you find TSP?
I was founded in the region originally and stayed here ever since.
5. Have you ever been part of any other region? How was your experience?
I was a part of balder between 2018-2020, but was banned for “attempting to coup” which was beyond a stretch of me actually trying to democratize the region, but it’s whatever at this point.
6. Are you a member of another region?
No, TSP has been my only region since 2020x
7. What does your current flag mean?
8 years ago, when i founded my current nation; i actually knew what i meant it to be. i believe the black and red represent the ebon tribe and the hand people that came together to form one nation. The stars (i believe) represent the initial capital states that coalesced into one country.
8. Why did you choose this name for your nation?
I literally googled “nation name generator” and kept clicking till I found one that sounded cool but not completely fake.
9. How do you normally play NationStates? What do you do in your daily life here?
I usually find myself answering any issues and telegrams that I have. Following that I will respond to any notices that I have. I also take time to refresh the polls or radio station as needed. At the end, I browse the RMB and do some light moderation work (very rarely though, my RMB mods are highly competent). Once I go to the forums/discord, I essentially check for any new posted content, keep up to date, and that’s about it.
10. What's your favorite thing about TSP?
My favorite thing about TSP is overall how welcoming it is to new players. We may not always do the best job at integration and making them stay, but we sure are friendly to them!
11. What is your least favorite thing about TSP?
I am least happy about our integration efforts. I certainly could do better myself about helping keep nations engaged, but the region itself just hasn’t found the magic touch to keep people here long term.
12. What would make the overall experience at TSP better?
I think ensuring that the integration process works well will make the experience as a whole better.
13. If you could give newcomers one tip on how to get into TSP politics, what would it be?
just do it. Literally. You can’t sit on the sidelines for more than election or two, the region can’t afford it, and if you don’t do it, you may find yourself not playing the game anymore.
14. What do you expect from the current/future TSP Cabinet?
I expect the current cabinet to finish their term with the agendas they set forth with at the beginning of the term. I expect a future cabinet to do much the same work, except I hope they focus more on integrating new members and promoting activity.
15. Are there any tips you would like to give to those who want to be the Delegate of TSP someday?
There won’t be a future delegate, so no need give that advice! Just kidding! In all seriousness, I would advise future delegates that you are merely the most recent holder of the office, and that you are not the one making decisions in the region. You are in a position of trust and you should act in the best interest of the region, and not your personal interests.
16. What are some of your interests besides NS?
I am an avid reader, a politics junkie, and a new official within the realm of local government. I also love going out to eat and enjoying the community.
17. Who is your favorite singer/band?
I am currently in my Swiftie era, so that’s fun. But I also have entered my benson Boone era.
18. What's your favorite music/album?
pop is where it’s at. Though, a good rock song or other genre is good from time to time.
19. What is your favorite game/game series?
I am currently playing EU4/CK3/Vic3 and am really enjoying them. I also have redownloaded Skyrim, and intend to play that in the coming months.
20. What's your favorite movie?
my favorite movie would have to be the lion king.
21. What's your favorite book?
my favorite book is probably not a single book, but a series, and that series is a song of ice and fire by George Rr Martin. If we are talking about a single book, I recently read Red White and Royal Blue, which is a fabulous book that includes my political junkie fix.
22. Do you prefer cake or cake?
Obviously cake. I think my efforts these past 11 months, and former delegate Anjo too the year prior, have done much progress toward stomping out the heresy that is pie.
Final Considerations
Thank you very much to everyone who read this far, and see you next time (next week).
Repeating: if you want to give an interview send me a DM on Discord (silvae_) or if you have any questions.
That's it for today, thanks again!
Third: Elections for Prime Minister and Delegate are approaching!
Every three months, the Citizens of the region gather to elect a Prime Minister. Every six months, the Citizens (and then members) of the region gather to elect a Delegate.
For Prime Minister, incumbent Prime Minister PenguinPies will determine if they will be running for reelection to a second term. Any other interested citizen must also determine if they have an interest in running for Prime Minister in just a month's time!
For Delegate, any eligible citizen may choose to decide if they would like to run for Delegate! If you are considering running for Delegate, you must meet the eligibility requirements and, most importantly, a high number of endorsements!
Registering for Citizenship is done on our regional forums, and it is best if you do it sooner rather than later since the Citizenship Committee can take some time to process those applications. Don't wind up on the wrong side of the application process because you applied too late! This is probably your final warning to get citizenship processed before the election begins in a fortnight.
Fourth: Speaking of elections... Make sure you are endorsing the Delegate (Ebonhand) and Coral Guard members! This will help ensure that everyone is able to get their endorsement counts up!
The South Pacific Coral Guard (SPCG)
The South Pacific Coral Guard (SPCG) is a group of trusted nations who maintain a high-endorsement count and are one of the most crucial lines of defense against external and internal security threats alongside the Council on Regional Security (CRS).
For the safety and security of our region, we ask that all World Assembly (WA) member nations in the South Pacific endorse the members of the SPCG, as well as the Delegate. There is no requirement to do so but endorsing the SPCG and the Delegate will make those who do a SWAN Knight.
Duties and privileges of the SPCG
Member nations of the SPCG are permitted a higher Endorsement Cap than that provided for the general World Assembly membership. The current endorsement cap for SPCG members is set to be 60 less than the endorsement count of the delegate. (Currently Ebonhand at 557 endorsements)
The current endorsement cap for SPCG is 497
A member of the CRS will be appointed to act as a liaison for SPCG members and, in times of emergency, SPCG members might be called upon to support or otherwise work with CRS members.
Joining the SPCG
Requirements
In order to become a member of the SPCG, one has to:
  • Have maintained Linkcitizenship for at least six consecutive months prior to the date of their application to the Coral Guard; and
  • Meet the requirements for influence and endorsements set and published by the Council on Regional Security
Process
Step 1: Ensure that you meet all the requirements listed above.
Step 2: Write up an application which provides:
  • The name of your WA nation;
  • Your history in NationStates including any aliases you are using or have previously used; and,
  • One (or several) paragraphs arguing why the Council should appoint you to this position of high trust.
Step 3: Send your application to a Linkmember of the CRS. You can do this by a variety of methods (a telegram, a private message on the forum, or a direct message on Discord).
The CRS will review your application. This can take a number of days to three weeks. The Council will likely have additional questions which they will communicate to you via the method of your application. Following a formal vote within the Council, it will decide whether to appoint you to the Coral Guard and notify the Assembly of its decision.
Please be advised that meeting the requirements does not automatically guarantee that the application will be successful. These mechanical conditions are one of several factors which the Council considers in its determination.
