In order to celebrate Fujai's imminent ascension to the Delegacy, this edition of The Western Post contains a special puzzle! There's also an interesting twist alongside the usual manner of solving the puzzles each month. For extra credit, participants can guess to which questions the unscrambled words were answers!

Fun Fujai Facts – LinkFull version here

Solve the anagrams to reveal the letters for the final message, and then use the circled letters from the words in the top part to complete the final phrase at the bottom. Each circled letter is used just once.

Send your finished answers to The West Pacific Master Dispatch to be featured in next month's paper!

Congrats to the solver of last month's puzzle:

Photos of the World: Part 8
By Sekiya

Welcome to the eighth article of the Photos of the World series! It's me, Sekiya, returning to write another edition after I shared several photos of Japan this March. This time we move to a different continent, namely Europe, in a two-part article that will cover cities in Germany and Luxembourg! We start in Berlin, the capital of Germany since the reunification of the western and eastern halves in 1990, and I'll begin this article with a historical background to the city, since it's important to understand many of the pictures that will be shown here.

Much of Berlin was destroyed during the Second World War, especially during the fall of Berlin when the Red Army captured the city almost 80 years ago, leading to the fall of Nazi Germany and the end of the war in Europe. The country was split between the four victorious powers—the zones administered by France, the United Kingdom and the United States became the Federal Republic of Germany, or West Germany, while the Soviet Union's zone became the German Democratic Republic, or East Germany. Berlin was geographically located in the eastern half, however it was separately divided into four areas like the rest of the country, meaning that West Berlin (the sectors of the city controlled by France, the UK and the US) became an enclave within East Germany and was also separated from East Berlin by the famous Berlin Wall.

The Cold War played a huge part in Berlin's redevelopment, with much of West Berlin embracing much more modernist architecture and more cultural and commercial hubs, primarily led by private investment. Part of Berlin’s modernist reconstruction was a plan called Interbau, which had contributions from architects from around the world. A famous example of a building from this plan is the House of World Cultures (Haus der Kulturen der Welt), sadly I didn't have time to go here so the picture above has been taken by someone else, but all subsequent photos in this article are mine.

Meanwhile, East Berlin was guided by Socialist principles, leading to architecture focused on functionality and many towering apartment blocks. There was also a large focus on central planning, with many social housing blocks, as well as public spaces and monuments. An example is the Soviet War Memorial (Sowjetisches Kriegerdenkmal) located in the Tiergarten part of the city, whose central monument is pictured in the first photo, and interestingly enough it stands in the former British sector of Berlin but had its construction supported by all of the Allied Powers. Another example is the Berlin TV Tower (Berliner Fernsehturm) built by the East German government, which to this day is still the tallest structure in Germany and can be seen from across much of the city.

Berlin has been an important city since the late Medieval Ages, starting as the capital of the Margraviate of Brandenburg, which was later joined with the Duchy of Prussia under a personal union. This led to the formation of the powerful Kingdom of Prussia, the driving force behind the unification of Germany, although it happened relatively late compared to many of its European neighbors. Therefore, Berlin has a huge range of historical buildings, none more recognisable than the Brandenburg Gate (Brandenburger Tor). Berlin's newer developments both contrast and integrate with its historical buildings, and the building of the national parliament (Bundestag) is a great example of the mix of historical and modern architecture shown throughout the city—although it's unfortunate they had constructions whilst I was there.

Through many wars and troubles, Berlin has thrived and become one of the most politically and economically important cities in the EU. Even today, you can still see evidence of where the Berlin Wall stood through different architectural styles, and even different street light bulbs. Despite all this, Berlin continues to evolve, blending its rich history with constant development, forging a unique and dynamic metropolis.

That's it for this edition of the Photos of the World series, I hope everyone is appreciating this series of articles and the interesting snapshots of various places in the world it brings! Furthermore, I pose two questions for everyone reading this. What are your favourite photos you have taken of the world? Do you want to post them here and write about them? We'd love to see them, so if you're interested in sharing some of your photos with us and a little bit of information, feel free to contact Giovanniland and we'll advise you on how to get started!

TWP CityGuessr #9
By Giovanniland

Banner by Sekiya.

Welcome to the ninth article about CityGuessr, our own take on the known game GeoGuessr, where players are given a view of a place and have to guess its location in the world! Of course, in our adapted version there is no possibility to move around and try to catch some hints, hence the fact we're restricting the scope of the game to cities and calling it CityGuessr.

I'm happy to report that we continue having excellent participation each month, and for the eighth edition last month, we had an increase of people that responded to the Google form in comparison with the previous puzzle! Nine people sent their guesses about which city in Europe Sekiya took photos in! Each nation's guess is presented below, with information such as how accurate it was and the points received.

  1. Con Nihawitan, Fotisdia, Fujai, Karlica, PeourouinLuxembourg City, Luxembourg – Correct answer! – 3 points

  2. Nas Crustium – Strasbourg, France – 163.86 km away – 2 points

  3. Arkengia – Ghent, Belgium – 234.44 km away – 1 point

  4. Corbeil – Paris, France – 286.83 km away

  5. Lzecov Islands – Bratislava, Slovakia – 818.29 km away

Congrats to all who got it correctly! Below you can see the updated leaderboard with all the points earned since the first challenge, and the challenge coin designed by Fujai for those who correctly guess the city.

  1. Corbeil – 15 points

  2. Nas Crustium – 12 points

  3. Con Nihawitan – 11 points

  4. Fotisdia and Fujai – 9 points each

  5. Pedandria and Peourouin – 4 points each

  6. Aberketia, Bhang Bhang Duc, Foressul, Lzecov Islands, Karlica, New caman, Ritelssaeney and Tinhampton – 3 points each

  7. Arkengia and Sekiya – 2 points each

  8. Montrandec – 1 point

Now let's get onto this month's challenge—for those new to the game, here are the rules originally written by Tam Dao and adapted since then!

CityGuessr, as the name suggests, will ask you to guess which city of the world the photos are showing, both photos always referring to the same city. We will keep the scope of the game to cities only, as we don't have the luxury of moving around to check for clues. We will also provide a single clue of the continent where the city is located.

LinkUse the submission link here in order to send your guess! Remember that you only have one guess that can't be changed later, and that it's expressly forbidden to use outside resources to figure it out, otherwise it wouldn't be a guess.

Furthermore, to add a bit of competition to the game, we will rank all guesses based on how close they are to the correct answer. The top 3 answers will be given points: 3 points for 1st, 2 points for 2nd, and 1 point for 3rd. The highest scorer(s) will gain the bragging right of being the CityGuessr Champion of the Month, and the top scorer across 12 editions of the game will be crowned CityGuessr Grand Champion.

In this edition we continue once more in Europe and the photos were taken by me!

I wish you all good luck in solving this edition's challenge, and have fun!

Furthermore, if you wish to submit photos to be considered for a future puzzle, submit them through telegram to The West Pacific Master Dispatch.

A Celebration of Unparalleled Significance
By Teralyon, Admiral of the Fleet

There's events in our lives that stand out as milestones and unite us in celebration. One of them is upon us here in TWP, causing many people to be excited and set aside their differences to celebrate this significant moment!

The talent and creativity seen here will definitely be remembered for many years to come, since two giants of the world have come together in a great collaboration. Who are they, you might ask?

They're none other than the electrifying Electric Callboy and the iconic Babymetal! Electric Callboy's high-energy electronicore meets Babymetal's unique blend of J-pop and heavy metal in order to create a song set to be the anthem of the year.

Let's all celebrate with excitement fitting this grand occasion—the release of RATATA is for sure an unique moment. Here's to Electric Callboy and Babymetal, their contributions to music won't be forgotten!

Card Club Update: Monthly Contests are Back!
By Giovanniland, Card Czar of the West

Card collectors rejoice, for the Card Club's monthly competitions have now returned!

That's right, and there's no better contest to start our grand return with than the TWPride Card Contest that has just been announced! It is available both in our message board, where TWPers can send their entries with the contest tag, and in the NationStates forums, where card collectors from afar can also participate. We have a promising start so far, because within a few days of the announcement there has already been one submission in the RMB and another in the forums!

What's special about the TWPride Card Contests to make them the best contest to mark the Card Club's return, you may ask? For one, it has consistently been a key event within the region's TWPride activities for an unbroken streak since 2021, so we're on our fourth annual edition now! Although the inaugural contest was uncontestedly won by Aluminum Oxynitride, stronger turnout ensued in 2022 with four entries and in 2023 with eight entries—the respective winning collections were ⚧️ Trans Pride and 🌈 LGBT, both authored by Apexiala. Furthermore, the turnout of the 2023 contest is the current participation record for any contest ever held by the Card Club!

This year I want to see many people enjoying the event by collecting LGBTQ+ related cards, especially those with flags or symbols that also fit with the theme. After making your collection, don't forget to share it before 23:59 EST of 30th June! Laud and I will assess all submissions, then announce a winner and runner-up to be rewarded with legendary cards, and there might be more prizes depending on the number and quality of the entries.

Furthermore, this article has a bonus feature to celebrate the return of the monthly contests! This January I made a leaderboard of the most successful contest participants in the twelve events held throughout 2023, and then expressed my hope to one day expand it to cover the entirety of our competition history, adding both the events before and after 2023. I'm glad to report that this has now been successfully done, and in addition, I've linked below all the posts for each contest's opening and closing so people can browse through the Card Club's history.

Note: Some early events had just one participant, therefore they won by default, and such wins are marked with an asterisk. Aluminum Oxynitride won two of their four victories uncontested, while Medio won once with and once without opposition.
