Progressives, KDP Form Cabinet
After announcing a tentative coalition last week, the centre-left Progressive Party and the regionalist Kot-diji Party have announced a provisional cabinet lineup. Incumbent Progressivee Leader of the Government Nirtyam Am’mayi will stay in power for another 6 months, while the KDP’s leader, Gobind Singh, will serve as her deputy. All 5 Progressive rapporteurs from the previous government will stay in place. The Liberal Democratic Party, which announced its withdrawal from the government last week, will see its 3 portfolios split, with two, Economics and Education, going to the Progressives, and one, Regional Development, going to the KDP.

Coalition Sees Post-Election Spike
According to the Dholavira Signboard’s “Second Thoughts” poll, the centrist Coalition of Independents, formerly the main opposition, would would see a spike in its vote share if elections were held today, in spite of its record-low performance in last week’s election. “Voters were largely satisfied with the Am’mayi administration, so they coalesced behind the Progressives. In doing so, they unwittingly dealt a death blow to the Coalition, Mel-akkam’s only feasible opposition,” noted Signboard op-editor Abhi Prayam-Roberts.” “However, most voters don’t want to see a return to one-party Progressive rule, so they’ve become more open to the idea of voting for the Coalition, just to keep the PP more accountable.”

Taliban Insurgents Captured by SHD
The Mel-akkam Social Harmony Directorate (SHD) announced yesterday that 3 Taliban militants, believed to be responsible for a hit-and-run attack in Shortugai, have been captured. “The suspects will appear in court as soon as the end of April, and face charges of homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, and violent motivations,” stated a spokesperson for the Judicial Commission. If convicted, the accused could face up to 15 years of probation, and almost certainly a period of protective confinement.
