PP, LDP Form Pact; OPP, WRP to Seat-Share
The two members of Mel-akkam’s governing coalition, the left-leaning Progressive Party and the centre-right Liberal Democratic Party, have agreed to form an alliance, tentatively called the “Progressive Democrats”. “The alliance is a symbol of our commitment to further cooperation with the LDP, in this government and beyond,” stated Progressive deputy leader Ekabhi Prayam. However, both parties will still run candidates against each other in next month’s election. Meanwhile, two smaller parties, the far-left Workers’ Revolutionary Party and the conservative Originalist Progressive Party, have agreed on a seat-sharing pact, fielding one joint candidate in each constituency. “For the Originalists and WRP, this pact is about survival,” claimed Signboard op-editor Abhi Prayam-Roberts. “According to our projections, a bad result could knock either out of the Coordinating Council entirely. By preventing vote-splitting in constituencies where they’re both strong, especially Amri, they’re trying to make sure they both win at least one seat.”

Employees of the Mel-akkam’s main Dravidian-language newspaper, the Navika Enu, voted to sack CEO Pora Tavara after numerous allegations of embezzlement were levied against the executive over the previous month.

Voters Pick Nazi Collaborator for Airport Name
After a public poll to name the new Rann of Kutch airport, a plurality of voters selected Maina Kathina, Mel-akkam’s reviled WWII-era Axis puppet leader, for the airport’s namesake, after a campaign by comedian Tamase Kalla. While the Am’mayi government sought to avoid frivolous names by restricting the options to former Honoured Elders, but as Katrina briefly served as the nation’s head of state, votes for her were counted. “We obviously aren’t going to name the airport after a war criminal,” stated Leader of the Government Nirtyam Am’mayi. “If the people find this in democratic, they can vote us out next month.”
