Bisofeyr (pronounced baɪsoʊːːː:feɪɹ), officially the Paleolithic Tribe of Bisofeyr, is the collective cultural group of the peoples inhabiting the Bisofeyri Archipelago. There are an estimated 4,800 people living on the archipelago, split across three separate tribal groups. The Bi-bi are the largest of the groups, accounting for 46% of the land's populace, followed closely by the Pe-ʘ-ʘ-ʘ, which account for 28% of the populace and the Yusoh-soh, with 21% of the populace. There are also about 200 individuals that do not belong to any of these groups, which occasionally form small family units but have not organized into a larger civilization.

The average day of the Bisofeyri varies significantly depending on the season and tribal group, but typically involves searching for various forms of food. The Bisofeyri Archipelago features a great deal of nutritional diversity, with significant reserves of fish in the rivers, lakes, and surrounding ocean, as well as a rich diversity of fruits and berries. There are several species of deer present on the archipelago, which are frequently hunted for special occasions.

While Bisofeyr does consist of three distinct tribal groups, these groups frequently co-mingle and will even share resources during times of hardship. There are occasional hostilities but long-term wars and organized battles are incredibly rare. Typically, there is no scarcity of food and so shortages are generally unheard of, but during severe droughts, hurricanes, or other natural disasters, tribal infighting and external hostilities can increase.

Despite being surrounded by and occasionally interacting with more advanced civilizations, the Bisofeyri tribes have not adopted the practices that could elevate them to modernity. Generally being considered in the equivalent of the "upper paleolithic" era, Bisofeyr has adopted a simple writing and governance system. They have not yet invented currency, so there is little economic activity outside of bartering some food rations, though most things are shared communally.

Etymology

"Bisofeyr" comes from a combination of three words in the Bisofeyri language, roughly translating to "large island with water". "Bi" (/baɪ/) mean "land", "ground", or "rock" is combined with "So" (/soʊ/), which indicates the size of something. Traditionally, the syllable is drawn out (/soʊ:/), indicating something large. "Fay"/"fey" (/feɪ/) implies that something is related to the water: either contains water or lies in water. The "ɹ" consonant that the word ends on indicates the end of the concept, as words in the Bisofeyri language cannot end in a vowel sound, unless they are plural.

The tribal name "Bi-bi", similarly, comes from the concept of land ("Bi" or /baɪ/). The word being repeated twice indicates importance, meaning that the Bi-bi view themselves as the owners or custodians of the land they live on.

The tribal name Pe-ʘ-ʘ-ʘ (pronounced like "Pee" followed by three clicks of the lip) comes from the word "Pe", which indicates a leadership role, and the three bilabial clicks refers to "many"; Bisofeyri allows counting up to six, and one bilabial click is equivalent to five, two is six, and any more than two bilabial clicks simply means "too many to count".

Yuhsoh-soh comes from.

Foreign Relations & the World Assembly

Bisofeyr has occasionally interacted with external nations, but has typically found them bewildering and ignored them. While there are occasionally missionaries or diplomatic missions set out, the Bisofeyri will typically reject them from any major group. The primary concern has to do with food scarcity, and individual tribes have occasionally accepted gifts from external nations.

Following a particularly bad incident of smog destroying food supplies for several years, a collection of tribal leaders collected and determined that their political neighbors were unaware of the effect they were having. Unaware of what to prepare for, they gathered their best intellectual mind and their best brawn, Norde Lot and Vol Vol, respectively, and sent them out on a makeshift raft to confront their neighbors.

Upon being received by their neighbors, they managed to communicate their concerns. They were flown to the World Assembly, where they have advocated for pro-environment legislation in an attempt to resolve the food shortages present on the Bisofeyri Archipelago. There is no communication between Bisofeyr and the delegation.
