Progressive-LDP Coalition Formed
After just over a week of negotiations, the centre-left Joint Progressive Party List and centre-right Liberal Democratic Party have formed a coalition government under Progressive leader Nirtyam Am’mayi. In addition to Am’mayi as Leader of the Government, Progressives will hold the portfolios of Foreign and Home Affairs, while the Liberals will hold the Deputy Leadership and Economic Affairs. Am’mayi has also announced plans for the addition of six “Special Rapporteur” posts, four of which would go to the Progressives and two to the Liberals.

Opinion: We’ll be Seeing a Leftward Shift
Abhi Prayam-Roberts
The inauguration of the new Am’mayi Government has prompted speculation about the possible ideology a coalition of a centre-left and a centre-right party, with many doubting it will be any more leftist than the previous Coalition of Independents executive. But those who voted for the Progressive firebrand who was just inaugurated as Leader of the Government can relax: the new government will doubtlessly move Mel-akkam leftwards.
For starters, the idea that the LDP will somehow “balance out” the Progressives’ more leftist tendencies is deeply flawed, as the LDP is simply not the “kingmaker” it has made itself out to be. While the Progressives opted to join forces with them to strengthen their majority, they can easily rule without their new junior partner; if the Liberals object to an especially leftist proposal, the Progressives could turn to the openly communist WRP, or simply buy off the notoriously pork-barrelling Kot-diji Party. So as you watch the upcoming Coordinating Council, you may be able to expect the Liberals to temper some of Am’mayi’s more radical machinations, but don’t count on any significant Progressive priorities being vetoed.
Free market, free country, free people
Socialism isn’t the only way! As Mel-akkam’s first opposition party, the Liberal Democrats have delivered free market governance with the goal of building a prosperous nation of free, independent people. As they say, a rising tide floats all boats – and we will rise the tide more than anyone.
Our Promises:
Increasing our GDP by 50% in 5 years
The privatisation of the economy, providing ample funding for social programmes and investments
Less crime through more police and slum clearance

Local Council Member Murdered
A member of the Kot-diji City Council was murdered last night, after the perpetrators forced their way into Mr. Granth Singh’s house. Two suspects are in custody, but investigators from the Justice Commission have not established a motive for the murder, which is Mel-akkam’s first homicide in almost 7 months. Gobind Singh, leader of the regionalist Kot-diji Party to which Granth Singh belonged, condemned the act as “a blatant hate crime driven by anti-Sikh sentiment.”
For peace and progress!
The Mel-akkan Progressive Party has always fought for freedom, social justice, and inclusion. Like we freed our nation from the British, so too will we free all citizens from poverty, discrimination, and inequality. A vote for us is a vote for freedom, socialism, and most importantly, progress.
Our Promises:
Low inequality, and a 90% income tax on the ultra-wealthy
The nationalisation of all industries, spreading the nation’s wealth among the people
Equal rights for all Mel-akkans, regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation
