Directorate Schedules Repeat Election
The Mel-akkam Electoral Directorate (MED) has scheduled the upcoming national repeat election for October 21st, 2023, two months earlier than repeat elections are traditionally held. The repeat election was called by the MED after volunteer ballot counters sabotaged around 4,000 ballots cast in the Amri and Daimabad Provinces, most of which were votes for the centrist-technocratic Coalition of Independents and the centre-right Liberal Democratic Party. While all notable political leaders accepted the change, a group of clerics objected, pointing to the auspicious nature of solstices and equinoxes in the traditional Pashupatist religion and claiming that elections must be held on those days, as they have been since around 2600 BCE.
