New Kowloon Bay

New Kowloon Bay, officially the Democratic Republic of New Kowloon Bay, is a sovereign microstate and megacity on the Pearl River Delta. With a population of 86.7 million coming from many different nationalities, it is one of the most densely populated places in the world. New Kowloon Bay is also a major financial hub and one of the most developed countries in the world.

Originally a sparsely populated area of farming and fishing villages, the country has become one of the world's most significant financial centers and commercial ports. Hong Kong has a market economy characterized by a focus on services, low taxation and free trade; its currency, the Hong Kong dollar, is the ninth most traded currency in the world. It is also home to the fifth-highest number of billionaires in the world, but although it has one of the highest incomes per capita, it still experiences severe inequality. Most notably, housing in urbanized areas faces a consistent shortage, and extremely high housing densities contribute to its housing market becoming one of the most expensive in the world.

Since 1997, it has consisted of 7 administrative prefectures, the largest of which is Dongguan, and the most populous Hong Kong. Through ongoing land reclamation, which started in the 1910s and has accelerated since the 2000s, the country has expanded its size by around 10 percent.

Kowloon Bay was established as Britain’s first colony in China after the Qing Empire ceded Hong Kong Island from Xin'an County at the end of the First Opium War in 1841 then again in 1842. The colony expanded to the Kowloon Peninsula in 1860 after the Second Opium War and was further extended when Britain obtained a 99-year lease of the New Territories in 1898.

Etymology
The name of the country New Kowloon Bay comes from the Cantonese word 'Nine Dragons', which is the name of the nine mountains where dragons used to live in Chinese mythology. Those mountains are Kowloon Peak, Tung Shan, Tate's Cairn, Temple Hill, Unicorn Ridge, Lion Rock, Beacon Hill, Crow's Nest and Tai Mo Shan.

The Chinese Privet is a common flower, easily found dotted alongside the coasts of New Kowloon Bay, which is why it's the centerpiece of NKB's flag and also its national flower. The surrounding ring signifies the globalisation of New Kowloon Bay, while the four points shows the reach of NKB into the world's economy. The blue is for the ocean's blue colors, and the white for the color of the sand found alongside most of NKB's pristine beaches.

The standard way to refer to a citizen of New Kowloon Bay is Kowlooni.
