HEADLINES: MARCH GENERAL ELECTIONS, WORLD ASSEMBLY UPDATE, AND CLUBS GALORE

The March General Elections marked several important developments in terms of Union politics. Following the 4 day vote in which many saw a very quiet election compared to those previous still showed a large political change. The expansive House following the January elections was halved as many new and old faces sought retirement or took on new roles outside the House as well as several old faces such as Sir Lashnakia and Tigslarlowducken disqualified due to new rules regarding Justices in the House. The office of Prime Minister was sought between Krovx Belgium representing the state rights campaign and the former prime minister and federalist heavyweight Sir Salibaic.

Let’s first analyse the House results. The Federalists secured their majority again by garnering a total of 5 list seats and 3 constituency seats (2 in Heart and 1 in RGBN). UPP were reduced to a sole seat (later none following the resignation of New Glaceon from the party). Independents were up with the first representative from Prudentia, Non-Violence sitting as an independent alongside Krovx Belgium in Hyperion. Note, the capital region for the first time has become without any representation in the House which marks a serious political development as it gives many state rights campaigners much more influence over policy. Canterbury also failed to garner representation in this election following a split vote which prevented the sole candidate Spadnorth from getting elected. On top of this, the Citizens Alliance of Democracy also had no candidates stand which has left the region without a representative (concerning since it previously had three).

After the election, the Federalist Co-Leader Sir Salibaic appointed Sir Sumeka as a Union Representative on behalf of the Federalists. Although five seats are allocated, only one seat has been taken leaving the current total composition of the House with 4 Federalists to 3 Independents. Although keep in mind that this can change with further appointments taking the total to 7 Federalists to 3 independents locking in a supermajority. This in all is not much change from the current layout in terms of party control with the federalists holding a plurality of the House since January 2021 and the fall of the Force Unity Party. Overall, it can be said that while politically not a lot has changed for parties, a lot has changed in terms of demographics and which regions will be more important electorally for elections to come.

Alright, we have covered the House so let us get onto the most influential part of the electoral process, the Prime Ministerial elections. In this election we saw the return of two former candidates, the independent Krovx Belgium – often noted as a joke candidate and a state’s rights campaigner – and the former Prime Minister Sir Salibaic, the candidate most aligned with the Union establishment. The debates themselves between the two candidates were most often noted as lacklustre with little campaigning on either side. Salibaic offered very little in flavour in terms of policy with often a sense of vague ambiguity about what was to come forward. Krovx Belgium offered some more ideas into policy often with more pro states' views. However, certain policies were often noted as deeply unpopular such as the abolition of the Union Roleplay and adopting a model for endorsing independent roleplays separated from government. Overall, the debate offered very little drama or suspense with many pundits predicting a Salibaic win.

By the time of voting, there was a clear sense of who would take the victory. Sir Salibaic took a lead early on and was well liked among the capital citizens and Heartizens alike. Krovx Belgium gained more traction from his home of RGBN but it was not enough. Salibaic won the election by 66% to 34% with candidates also winning their House seats as well. The results came as no surprise to many but also marked the return of a more centralised form of government against recent gains made by territorial and state rights campaigners. It also sees the return of Federalist Party control of the executive branch – the previous Prime Minister West Kronisia belonged to the Union People’s Party.

Overall the election saw a shift in politics back towards a Federalist-dominated Union with the gains made by the UPP lost. This shall have long-term ramifications in the future with this creating a large impact on the centralisation debate and that of the anti-federalism movement. However, that is to be found out. In the past month, the Ministry of World Assembly Affairs) has held eight votes on Resolutions before the General Assembly. These votes were on a wide range of topics, from light pollution to paid leave. Most of these votes succeeded, but two notably failed. These were the poll on Repealing The LGBTQIA Inclusiveness In Schools Act, and the poll on Regulating Digital Warfare. Those who voted against the Regulation of Digital Warfare did so primarily because "It was well-intentioned, but had ineffective wording to actually tackle the problem it sought to tackle".

The most notable event to happen in the last month regarding the World Assembly was the establishment of the Ministry of World Assembly Affairs, in contrast to its previous status as a Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The new Ministry is led by the World Assembly Delegate of Force, Battadia, who heads the Voting, Information, and Special Actions Committee (the VISAC), a council of all the World Assembly Delegates in the Union, currently Suter of RGBN, Sir The Scottish Republic of Heart, Unified columbia of Citizens Alliance of Democracy, and Gumeus of Prudentia. The VISAC is tasked with the more high-level decisions, such as deciding if an announcement on a World Assembly Resolution should be made, as well as voting on Proposals, something which only Delegates are allowed to do. The second aspect of the new Ministry is the Long-term Activity for World-assembly Nations - Ministry of World Assembly Affairs, an absurdly long name which condenses down to the humorous acronym LAWN-MoWAA. The LAWN-MoWAA consists of all the members of the Ministry of World Assembly Affairs, and it is tasked with getting the citizens of the Union interested in, and engaged with, the World Assembly.

Within the capital, Force, and other Union regions, the concept of clubs has become very popular. Clubs enhance activity in regional Discords and allow for discussion between individuals with similar interests.

In Force, any citizen can create or join a club, and those clubs that demonstrate sufficient interest can get their own channel in Force's Discord with club leaders having a degree of autonomy over their club channel and its affairs Currently, Force's Discord has 7 clubs, each covering different interests and varying widely in activity. These clubs are The Gay Agenda, The Anime Club, The Force Culinary Association, Ayko's Pet Shop, Tig's Tech Corner, the Force Motorsports Club, and The Commoners Country Club. The founder, Renegalle, puts out weekly club reports to ensure stability in activity, and an awards system is also in place to highlight the most active clubs and encourage activity among less active ones. Clubs guarantee a safe community for specific interests and exist as tight-knit communities within the broader Union.

If you're looking to find people with similar interests, it's worth taking a look at the current clubs on our Discord and seeing if any of them appeal to you! If not, you can also check the LinkClubs Section of our forums and see if there are any clubs there that appeal to you, though do be aware that clubs that did not mean the criteria to have their own Discord channels tend to be inactive.

Finally, though it may seem daunting, you're also free to start your own club! If you're interested in doing so, just take a look at our LinkClub Guidelines - everything you need to know is right there.
