Daily Readings, Ho̔milíes, and Prayers - 05152022 - Theme: Creed — For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.

Peace and All Good!

Today is the 𝐅𝐢𝐟𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫

At Sundays, we celebrate the devotion to the Holy Trinity. Undivided substance, united nature of God, divided into Three persons as the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Let us begin today's Daily

In the name of the Father, ✠
and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit,
𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗻.

God our loving Father,
grant us the grace
to hear what we ought to hear,
to see what we ought to see,
that we might do what we ought to do,
in Jesus' name we pray.
Amen.

𝐓𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲'𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 is from the Holy Gospel according to 𝕷𝖚𝐤𝖊 24:15-21, 25-32
English Standard Version Anglicised (ESVUK)

𝗢𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗘𝗺𝗺𝗮𝘂𝘀
While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them. But their eyes were kept from recognizing him.

And he said to them, “What is this conversation that you are holding with each other as you walk?” And they stood still, looking sad. Then one of them, named Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?” And he said to them, “What things?” And they said to him, “Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, a man who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, and how our chief priests and rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him. But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened. And when they did not find his body, they came back saying that they had even seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive. Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but him they did not see.”

And he said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?” And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.

So they drew near to the village to which they were going. He acted as if he were going farther, but they urged him strongly, saying, “Stay with us, for it is towards evening and the day is now far spent.” So he went in to stay with them. When he was at table with them, he took the bread and blessed and broke it and gave it to them. And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And he vanished from their sight. They said to each other, “Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?”

𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: “What things?”

God tests the hearts of the two apostles. This is funny, seeing that Jesus was with them, they were talking about Jesus, but Jesus remained hidden from them to test how great their faith and heart is. I can only imagine the facial expressions, the giggles Jesus hides from them.

Now the two were in disbelief, really confused at the new happening. They were given the Good News of the Resurrection, but still the fear and devastation was prevalent in the heart of the apostles. This feeling is not just with Cleopas and his companion, but the whole twelve; to the worse extent the traitor Judas the Iscariot. Of course, they were scared and devastated at the Death of Jesus.

But it was at this moment, that the Spirit of God, from the mouth of the Living Word of God speaking and explaining the Word of God, forced its way to the slow foolish hearts of the two. If we spend some time with God, in prayer or just communication or meditation on the events then will our sad depressions will turn into joyful expressions. God who created all things good is the source of all goodness. Every good feeling we have, the joy from the peace that the world cannot give, the mystical white light of the Hesychast and the Ascetic Mystics. A feeling of God's goodness, the Joy, only that happens when we walk with the Lord.

𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫: Even if God acted as if He were going far away, the apostles continued to invite Him to have supper. Let us invite God in our lives through prayers, and constant reminders in our daily living. God is the source of all living, and goodness. God created everything, and to God will everything return. With Joy let us do our work, with constant reminders that the labours, sacrifices, crosses that we bear today will bring us to the resurrection tomorrow.

My God, My God,
present in three divine persons,
I believe, I hope, and I love you,

My God, My God,
Father, Unbegotten, Uncreated,
Son Only-Begotten and Consubstantial with the Father,
and Holy Spirit who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
I believe, I hope, and I love You,

My God, My God,
Jesus Christ who is the earthly presence of the Trinity,
present in the blessed sacrament,
I believe, I hope, and I love you,

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One,
Have mercy on us and on the Whole World. 𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘦

𝐋𝐞𝐭 𝐮𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐲.

Lord Jesus Christ, You fulfilled every law, prophecy, and renewed the covenant of Man and God through the Cross with Your Mother. Accept our sacrifices, though humble and incomparable to Yours. Each work that we do, may we do it for the greater Love and Glory of You. May You be praised in heaven and earth. We the pilgrims on earth, on the road towards our unification to the Father, be with us as You have been with Cleopas in Emmaus.

𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗛𝗼𝗹𝘆, Mother of God, and our Mother. You are our example. Pray for us, who have strayed from the path. In you we see refuge and hope, being a woman of creation goodness. We put our trust in you, that our prayers may be heard by the Father through and in union with the Holy Spirit, one God forever. Amen.

In the name of the Father, ✠
and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit,
𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗻.

℟. Thanks be to God! Alleluia! Hallelujah!
