Founded in 1819 CE by the left-wing Republican and Communist revolutionaries fighting the loyalist Monarchists in the Bloody Summer civil war (1819 CE - 1820 CE), the Sandalosi People's Liberation Forces (SPLF) was founded in-order to effectively combat the Monarchists in an efficient and organized manner with better allocation of resources. It is the main military body of the People's Republic of Sandalos, with it consisting of five branches such as the Sandalosi People's Liberation Army (SPLA), the Sandalosi People's Liberation Navy (SPLN), the Sandalosi People's Liberation Air Force (SPLAF), the Sandalos Marine Corps (SMC), and the Sandalos Nuclear Detachment (SND).

The military history of the modern Sandalosi state is varied with the country being locked in defensive wars against her neighbors for half of it's history, with those wars always being won handily. Likewise for wars of conquest, which has resulted in the modern-day borders of Sandalos. The political relations with Sandalos and her neighbors have generally resulted in war, especially regarding the nation's left-wing government.

The role of the SPLF is the defense of the nation's (and her allies) borders and peoples throughout both the region it's located, and abroad around the globe. Or at least, that's the new stated mission of the SPLF, the older mission being just the defense of the nation and her people from her neighbors. Due to these stated goals, the budget of the Sandalosi People's Liberation Forces is in the trillions, with the SPLF's armaments and maintenance being essential to the survival of Sandalos.

From it's inception in the Bloody Summer, the SPLF has been instrumental in the history of Sandalos. Helping in shaping the modern-day sense of national self-identity and patriotism within Sandalos, especially through the rest of the 19th century after the nation's inception as the nation was entrenched with wars with her neighbors in-order to protect the worker's revolution within Sandalos. The military was restructured at the end of the 19th century as the country entered a period peace, the restructuring of the military complex was to further organize and decentralize the military while maintaining and reinforcing the chain of command, as well as replacing armaments for standardization concerns. This restructuring, as well as others, had also spawned the other branches of the SPLF. The policy of mandatory conscription ended in 2000 CE, with the SPLF becoming a voluntary service, with the minimum recruitment age being raised from 17 to 20 in the same year.

The average SPLF recruit for any of the branches (excluding specific sub-branches) is required to undergo a minimum of 25 to 30 weeks of basic training and drilling before they're allowed into any of the SPLF branches, with the basic training courses incorporating basic firearms training and maintenance, physical examinations, equipment training and maintenance, discipline and group cooperation, a mental and social intelligence examination, and a basic written exam. As well as other skills such as cooking, driving, swimming, and other essential skills are also incorporated depending on which branch a recruit is applying for.

The Sandalosi People's Liberation Army (SPLA) is the land service branch of the SPLF, as well as the oldest branch of the SPLF, with it being officially founded in 1819 CE, along with the founding of the SPLF, making it the most senior branch of the SPLF in order of precedence. The SPLA has it's roots with the Bloody Summer (1819 CE - 1820 CE) civil war which had resulted in the overthrow of the monarchy in Sandalos and Montevelios. After the Bloody Summer, plans to disband the institution of the military were proposed, however, quickly dashed as war would break out with Sandalos's neighboring countries attempting to restore the monarchy through military force.

The SPLA is headed by a council of four civilian officials and two military officials, plus the secretaries of defense and security and both of the commander-in-chiefs. It is the largest branch by far, with a total of 1,009,320 active service personnel. Not including the SPLAR (Sandalosi People's Liberation Army Reserves) of 259,607 personnel. The SPLA is split up into further sub-branches such as the Army Rangers, Military Police, Secret Service, Honor Guard, Mechanized Service, Cavalry, and the Crow Knights (an honorary position within the SPLA as the historical crow knights were some of the first liberators of Sandalos, with them fighting to the last man and woman against ancient Sarnelli colonists). A well-renown sniper squad that's a part of the Army Rangers is the 21st "Red Skulls" Sniper Squad.

The average infantry equipment of the SPLA consists of bullpup assault rifles chambered in 5.8×42mm, general purpose machine guns and light support weapons chambered in Link7.62×54mmR and the Linkaforementioned 5.8×42mm cartridge. Body-armor meant to help defend against sub-caliber weapons fire is standard issue for all units, along with bulletproof modular helmets. Bayonets are still in-service. Gloves, balaclavas, and tactical glasses are also provided. Officers are equipped with a sidearm, usually a .45 caliber or 9mm semi-auto affair, although some officers are known to carry revolvers as their sidearm. Swords are ceremonial kit. Gas masks are a part of standard kit, and gas mask training is mandatory for every recruit. The Mechanized Service employs the use of T-80U's and BTR-82A's, as well as a plethora of other armored and utility vehicles.

The Sandalosi People's Liberation Navy (SPLN) is the naval service branch of the SPLF, as well as the second in preceding order, with it's establishment in 1821 CE, a year after the founding of the People's Republic of Sandalos. The SPLN was founded a year before the outbreak of a war involving the Sandalosi government and the neighboring nations of Ganne, Zamasicus, Ischia, Onheneret, Mondia, and Castellero. The SPLN proved instrumental in the Ischian and Castellero campaigns, with them aiding with the sieges of Fontzia and Tarrelitergasecu via shelling the cities and their more industrially focused parts. With the end of the war after the Onhenereti government signed a peace treaty which seceded half their territory to Sandalos, the SPLN would be able to invest in more modern ships and equipment.

The SPLN is headed by a council of four civilian officials and two military officials, plus the secretaries of defense and security and both of the commander-in-chiefs. It is the second largest branch by far, with a total of 909,320 active service personnel. The SPLN is split up into further sub-branches such as the Submarine Detachment, the Coast Guard, and the Navy's finest unit, officially known as the Amphibious Deep Strike Group (ADSG), however they're also known as the Ichthys Battalion unofficially.

The average sailors equipment of the SPLN consists of 7.62×54mmR battle rifles, 5.8×42mm bullpup assault rifles, and or .45 caliber submachine guns. Body-armor that protects from sub-caliber fire is standard issue, however going with just fatigues is acceptable, modular bulletproof helmets are also provided. Fatigues are a digital blue and black naval camo. Bayonets are not a part of standard naval kit. Gloves, white balaclavas, and tactical glasses are provided in standard issue naval kit. Naval officers are armed with a sidearm, which can include either a revolver or a semi-automatic handgun. The ADSG or Ichthys Battalion are armed with whatever equipment they require for an individual mission, however generally they're equipped with black digital camo fatigues and armor with NVGs, using suppressed weapons with IR lasers.

The first and only Sandalosi ship to be destroyed in-combat rather than decommission was the Northern Fleet's flagship, the NF Torres. The last Fleet Admiral that commanded the Torres as their flagship was Nanthaliene A. Omamaer, the current Chairman of Sandalos. She awarded a medal for heroism due to her efforts in leading the evacuation of the ship while it sank.

Marine Corps

The Sandalos Marine Corps (SMC) is the maritime land service branch of the SPLF responsible for carrying out expeditionary and amphibious operations through combined arms, implementing it's own infantry, armor, artillery, aerial and special reconnaissance and operation forces (such as the Sandalosi Red Berets). The SMC has been an integral part of the SPLN since it's inception in 1850 CE, although still remaining a distinct branch. The SMC operates installations on both land and sea aboard amphibious warfare ships. Additionally the SMC operates a fleet of naval aviation helicopters and ground-attack aircraft.

The history of the SMC started in 1850 CE during the Sandalosi Succession Wars (1819 CE - 1901 CE), where two battalions of marines (the 1st Marine Battalion "River Rats" and 2nd Marine Battalion "Paddy Hoppers".) would prove instrumental during the Western Onheneret-Zamasicusi Front and the Southern Montevelios Front, where they would employ guerilla tactics and lead a campaign of terror against opposing forces by sending one man in a squad back alive but with some form of mental or physical (even both sometimes) scarification. This in-order to lower the morale of opposing soldiers.

The main duties of the SMC are: the seizure or defense of advanced naval bases and other land-based operations in-order to support naval operations, development of tactics, technique, and equipment used by amphibious landing forces in coordination with the SPLA (1850 CE) and the SPLAF (1929 CE), and other duties that the prime minister or party chairman (or chairwoman) may direct. The SMC employs over 230,590 active duty personnel.

The equipment of the SMC is similar to the SPLN, although with more modular weaponry and equipment. The Sandalosi Red Berets on the other-hand are equipped with the latest equipment and weaponry produced in Sandalos, with the unit testing out experimental equipment and weaponry out in the field.

Air Forces

Initially a sub-branch of the SPLA from 1907 CE to 1928 CE, the SPLAF was officially made into it's own separate and distinct branch in 1929 CE following a minor restructuring of the SPLF at the time. It is fifth youngest branch of the People's Republic of Sandalos. This branch's stated mission is air superiority over Sandalosi skies, interception of unidentified craft, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance, rapid mobility, being able to strike decisively and quickly on the global stage, and command and control.

The SPLAF is headed by a council of four civilian officials and two military officials, plus the secretaries of defense and security and both of the commander-in-chiefs. It has a total of 109,320 active service personnel. The SPLAF is split up into further sub-branches such as the National Space Agency Division (NSAD) and the Meterological Affairs Committee (MAC).

The equipment of the SPLAF consists of sub-caliber weapons, such as Link.45-caliber submachine guns and both .45-caliber semi-automatic and 9mm semi-automatic handguns. Unlike the SPLA and SPLN, the SPLAF doesn't allow officers to have their own home weapons, but rather the military issued semi-automatics. Maintenance crews and pilots are equipped with jumpers, with pilots equipped with specialized fighter helmets and oxygen masks when in-air. Grounded crew that aren't for piloting and maintenance purposes are equipped with SPLA-style fatigues, although they don't get body armor and only get a black cap as headwear.

The SPLAF operates J-11 air superiority fighters and TU-95MS heavy strategic bombers in both defensive and offensive capacities.

Nuclear Detachment

The Sandalosi Nuclear Detachment (SND) is the command and control of the SPLF's nuclear arsenal, with their main job being the maintaining of devices and facilities, and the launch of nuclear devices in the event of a thermo-nuclear exchange. Founded in 1959 CE after the successful testing of Sandalos's first nuclear device (a 25kt nuclear bomb that was detonated in the remote deserts of Ampinion). This branch employs 15,670 personnel.

With only the Chairman (or Chairwoman) and the Prime Minister being allowed to authorize and deploy the use of nuclear weapons. In the event that either or both individuals are dead, as well as their successors, there is an automated dead man's switch system that authorizes the deployment of all nuclear weapons and devices.

The equipment of SND guard personnel comprises of heavy ballistic vests graded to stop high-caliber rounds, as well as bulletproof helmets. They're armed with bullpup assault rifles chambered in 5.8×42mm, as well as light support weapons in the same caliber. Non-guard personnel are equipped with the same weaponry, plus 9mm semi-automatic handguns and .45-caliber submachine guns. They're not equipped with body-armor, but rather black fatigues.
