80th Senate of Europeia Elected

(Europeia, 8/21/2021) - Europeia held its Senate election on August 15, 2021, with seven individuals vying for five seats on the eightieth Senate in Europeia's history.

Forty-eight citizens voted for their preferred candidates. The following candidates were elected to the Senate: Darcness, Kazaman, Lloenflys, Peeps, and Sincluda. The remaining candidates who did not win a seat were Baobab and Olde Delaware.

Upon taking office, the Senate elected Lloenflys to serve as Speaker again, via unanimous consent, for his fourth term as Speaker. In his opening address Speaker Lloenfys said: "[T]here was ... a large spread of positions and a great many interesting proposals that came up in the course of the lively campaign. I anticipate that we will have a busy term filled with significant discussion and a lot of opportunities to legislate, and I hope that we as a Senate leave Europeia a better place at the end of the term than it was at the start, even if just by a smidgen."

Of particular note is the recently proposed act from newly elected Senator Peeps titled: the Recruitment Training Act (2021). This legislation requires the President or their designee to train and instruct Ministers of the cabinet and Senators to be authorised and capable of manually recruiting for Europeia. The Act has been met with much discussion on the senate floor and from citizens, and passed the Senate on August 20, 2021, with a vote of two nays against and three ayes for its implementation. The Act is currently before the President for granting or withholding of the People's Assent.

The next election in Europeia will be the Presidential election, due to be held on September 19, 2021.
