Introduction to Coldonia

This handbook was designed to help guide nations that are new to Coldonia or serve as a handy reference for current members. It may updated in the future by regional administrators as needed.

If you are new to the region, allow us to extend you a hearty welcome! Although we are a small region, Coldonia has a close-knit community of experienced players which can help your nation can grow to its full potential. We mostly focus on roleplay based around our nations, but we also like to hang out on our Linkregional Discord server (which you should join ASAP to get the most out of being a Coldonian).

Coldonia was founded on March 3rd, 2021 by Olivedrabia and Deskoslovakia (Ganot is just a puppet used to set up the region). Our community is fairly active and based around realistic roleplay, free exchange of ideas, and general goofing around.

Why Join Coldonia?

Why not?

NationStates by itself can be fun, but joining the right region takes this game to a whole other level. Why? Because being an active member of a region allows you to interact with other nations in a structured, meaningful way.

In a region, players can find an active platform to showcase the effort that they put into building their nation. Perhaps most importantly, having a community/audience decreases the chances of players getting bored and abandoning their nation.

Coldonia may not be the biggest, oldest, or most active region on NationStates, but what we do have is a uniquely innovative environment where a player's nation can reach its full potential, supported by a fairly active community of creative minds. And unlike the bigger regions, we don't have an overbearing bureaucracy or overly legalistic regional government. As a region, we also believe in being a neutral, apolitical haven for people from all ideological backgrounds.

Getting Started As A New Nation

As someone who is new to Coldonia, getting set up is fairly easy. Once your nation has relocated itself to Coldonia, the best first step is to join the regional Discord server, which makes it easier to get connected with the region's administrators and the community. Joining it is not mandatory and a nation can get by without using Discord, but the server is highly recommended for newcomers.

The next step is getting yourself enrolled in the Prestige system (details in the next section) and claiming land on the regional map. The best way to do this would be crafting an introductory RMB post that describes your nation, since you cannot claim land on the regional map without making at least one post.

Alternatively, you can first get in touch with administrators through Discord or a telegram. Either way, they will record your nation into the system and process your first land claim.

And... that's it. That's all it takes to become a member of our region. From here, you can choose to obtain citizenship by joining the World Assembly, get involved in our region's roleplay, or simply develop your nation's lore. More details for these things can be found in other sections of the handbook

The Prestige System And Claiming Land For Your Nation

In a nutshell, Coldonia's LinkPrestige system is essentially a form of XP that can be earned by Coldonian nations through residency and activity. The system works by tracking when a nation joined the region, whether it is in the WA, and how many RMB posts it contributes to the region's roleplay. This is used to determined the nation's level in the system, which in turn is used to determine how much land that nation is entitled to claim.

The Prestige system currently consists of 10 levels, the requirements for which increase exponentially from the lowest level (1) up.

By default, a Coldonian nation gets 1.5 points every day that it is in the region. If they are a citizen (in the WA), they get a one-time boost of 100 points (which they lose if they lose their WA status). They can get 5 points a day for properly formatted RP posts and additional points through "honors" (i.e. being recognized by the regional government for a service).

At the first level, every nation starts out with 3 territories on the map, gaining one more piece of territory every time they reach a new level.

The Prestige system is meant to reward consistent activity and long residence within the region.
