The area now known as Ienia was 1st inhabited by modern humans during the Upper Palaeolithic period but takes its name from the Ienes, a tribe deriving its name from the Iene peninsula, who settled during the 5th & 6th centuries. Ienia became a unified state in the 10th century & has had a significant cultural & legal impact on the wider world since the Age of Discovery, which began during the 15th century. The Ienian church, Ienian language, & the Ienian law developed in Ienia, & the country's parliamentary system of government has been widely adopted by other nations. The Industrial Evolution began in 18th-century Ienia, making its society the world's 1st industrialised nation.
Ienia's terrain is primarily low hills & plains, especially in the central & southern islands. However, there is mountainous & upland terrain on the northern island & in the west. The capital is Arkchester, which has the largest metro area in Ienia. Ienia's population of 56 mils is mostly concentrated around Arkchester, the southern island & conurbations in the middle & northern islands, which each developed as major industrial regions in the 19th century.
