Resetho was colonised by Britain in the 19th century. The discovery of gold mines in Resetho lead to a huge migration of white Europeans in the country. This incident came to be known as the Resethian Gold Rush. After the Gold Rush ended, several Europeans decided to stay back in Resetho and they came to become the White minority. High standards of living, lead to the white community to become the dominant community in terms of wealth and political power. More European immigration occured in the 1940s and 1950s. Ironically it was the white community who spearheaded the independence movement which subsequently lead to the creation of Republic of Resetho.
David Malan, a white, became the first President of an independent Resetho, after the conclusion of the Resethian War of Independence. Since then, all the Presidents of Resetho have been white-skinned men.
Since then, the white-Resethians, which has grown to represent 22 percent of the population in the recent years, has become the only community to hold the seat of the President. Democratic elections are opens to all whites and a few blacks, although the vote of the blacks are half the value of the whites.
The latest policy of segregation, introduced by President Ian Botha in 2016, established separate colonies for whites and blacks. While the whites live in opulence, with the best of everything, blacks suffer in some of the worst living conditions in the country.
