Political Party

Description

United Left of Daarwyrth
Far-left to centre-left

United Left of Daarwyrth is a relatively recent political party which was founded in 2008 CE, yet consists of a number of older left-wing parties, namely the Socialist Party, the Social Democrats of Daarwyrth, the Mareist Left and the Daarwyrth Labour Party. The political party advocates traditional left-wing ideals, with varying degrees of socialism being represented among its members.

The proponents of far-left ideals advocate for a socially-owned economy, with a small minority within the party advocating for Daarwyrth's transition from a monarchy to a republic. However, most of the ULD is - in varying degrees - supportive of the Daarwyrthian monarchy. The majority also prefers less radical approaches to the implementation of socialist ideals into Daarwyrthian society, and is in favour of economic and social interventions to promote social justice, yet within the framework of a liberal-democratic polity and a capitalist-oriented mixed economy.

Green Daarwyrth
Centre-left

Green Daarwyrth is a political party that was founded in 1997 CE, after the impact of human activity within the world started to be seen as the culprit for the devastation of natural environments, as well as causing climatological deterioration, and the extinction of both flora and fauna. To ensure humanity would never have such a destructive effect on Daarwyrth, Jysse Klover - who was Prime Minister from 1998 to 2005 - founded Green Daarwyrth, and won the lower house elections a year later with a landslide.

Green Daarwyrth is a progressive, left-wing party, of which the focus is primarily the preservation of the environment, as well as finding ways to improve and strengthen it. As environmentalism has always been a popular philosophy in Daarwyrth - in large part due to Mareism - the party has always enjoyed significant support, and led government coalitions from 1998 to 2005. To this day, Green Daarwyrth enjoys great respectability in the Royal Diet.

Internationalist Coalition
Centre-left to centre

In 1948 CE, The Internationalists was founded as a political party that advocated for an end to Daarwyrth's isolationism from the international community, and was in favour of having the nation join organisations such as the World Assembly. The party was initially met with disregard, and even contempt, and rarely prospered during elections. In 1982 CE, a new party was founded named Open Daarwyrth, that managed to sway the younger generations, and put the first crack in Daarwyrth's inwardly turned nature. As both parties fared well in subsequent elections, the two decided to join forces, and formed the Internationalist Coalition in 1991. The party adopted the torch as their symbol, to light the way back towards the international community

The Internationalist Coalition started faring better in elections after the turn of the millennium, and eventually gained power in the Chamber of Representatives in 2008 by becoming the largest party, and the leader of the new government coalition, followed by a similar victory two years later in the Chamber of Councillors. The victory of the Internationalist Coalition, as well as their pro-internationalist agenda, caused King Paulys I to abdicate in 2015 CE, and to hand over the crown of Daarwyrth to his firstborn daughter, who became Queen Demi Maria I. The Internationalist Coalition remains the largest party in the Chamber of Representatives, and the leader of the government coalition, with their biggest success to date being Daarwyrth's entry into the World Assembly in 2021.

Democratic Royalist Union
Centre

The Democratic Royalist Union is Daarwyrth's oldest political party, as it was founded in 1848 CE, the same year that the nation formally transitioned from an absolute monarchy to a constitutional one, where the monarch remained the active head of the executive branch of the government. The latter can, in large part, be attributed to the statesmen who would go on to establish the DRU, which is why the party is often benevolently dubbed 'the Voice of the Crown' in the Royal Diet. Nonetheless, as the monarchy traditionally enjoys high levels of support among the people of Daarwyrth, so too does the DRU. To date, there has not been a single government coalition that the party was not a part of, as either the leader of the coalition, or one of its members.

While being primarily a party that deeply cherishes the idea of a representative democracy being steered by a monarchy, the DRU's political alignment can be classified as centrist, with a prominent pragmatist streak. The party has no inherent bias to either the left or the right, yet approaches issues from the idea, "what result would be the best for the most amount of people, in the current situation". If a left-wing policy is deemed to yield the best results, the DRU will support it without any ideological or political qualms, and vice-versa in regard to right-wing policies. The single, unshakable tenet of the party is that the monarch is to be the captain that steers the ship of state, with the DRU being their lookout for any danger.

Mareist Democratic Alliance
Centre

The Mareist Democratic Alliance belongs to some of Daarwyrth's oldest political parties, as it was established in 1855 CE, seven years after the establishment of the Royal Diet of Daarwyrth. It was founded by Count Bartyn vyn Walden as a response to the perceived diminishing of religiousness in the Royal State. Yet over the centuries, the religious nature of the MDA became less rigorous and far more tolerant and open towards atheism and other religions, which was exemplified by the party's spearheading of including religious freedom and tolerance in Daarwyrth's constitution.

As according to the Mareist Church of Daarwyrth the monarchs from the Zylkoven bloodline are the Chosen of the Seas, and therefore divinely ordained to rule, the Mareist Democratic Alliance is considered to be a royalist party, and an unwavering political ally of the Democratic Royalist Union. As Mareism is a very tolerant and accepting religion, the party has always been considered to be centrist in its political alignment. The tenets of the Mareist Church also heavily support the idea of pragmatism, and thus the MDA has been a frequent coalition partner of the Democratic Royalist Union. The modern incarnation of the party believes in the right of all to live their lives completely according to their own beliefs, ideals and morals, yet hopes to be able to show the wisdom of Mareism by acting for the good of the people, not merely preaching to them.

Technoliberal Alliance
Centre

The Technoliberal Alliance is among Daarwyrth's youngest political parties, as it was founded in 2017 CE by Aryk Vysar, who is also the current head of the party. The Technoliberals received significant support from the younger generations of Daarwyrth during the 2018 Chamber of Representatives elections, and managed to secure a number of seats in 2020 Chamber of Councillors election, partially at the cost of the Liberal Party of Daarwyrth. While still a new face within Daarwyrthian politics, it has conducted itself maturely since its appearance within the Royal Diet, and gained much respectability as a result.

The party embodies the ideals of LinkTechnoliberalism, a fairly recent political philosophy, that is seen as 21st century liberalism. Technoliberal movements frequently hold an overriding faith in technology, a suspicion of conventional top-down systems of governance, and a conviction that the aggregate effects of individual engagement of technology will generate social goods. Traditionally, Technoliberalism is about the combining of decentralism, individualism, responsibility and self-awareness, nothing in excess, sustainability, and engineering style regulation and governance. It is why the Technoliberal Alliance advocates for the introduction of direct democracy through the use of widespread technology, yet in line with Daarwyrth's pro-monarchy traditions, has no wishes to see the monarchy abolished, as long as it is capable of keeping up with the advancement and progress of technology.

Liberal Party of Daarwyrth
Centre to Centre-right

The Liberal Party of Daarwyrth was founded in 1861 CE as a response to the high amount of economic regulation, and the perceived threat of Daarwyrth's economy falling entirely into the hands of the state. Kasya Altenmont, the founder of the party, advocated for a system of economic liberalism, and the active engagement of Daarwyrth on the international market. The party won wide support from the public at the time, and was the architect behind Daarwyrth's open policies to international trade, despite its inwardly turned nature in terms of diplomacy and politics.

Kasya Altenmont's ideological legacy remains the heart and soul of the LPD to this day. They are frequently the opponents of large scale government interventionism, and yearn to give all citizens and residents as much economic and personal liberties as possible. As such, they were a strong supporter of the Internationalist Coalition during their efforts to break open the nation's absolute isolationism, and a fierce ally in the endeavour to have the nation join the World Assembly. However, recently the party has lost a portion of its following - in particular the younger generations - to the newly founded Technoliberal Alliance, which led to fierce debates and some friction on the party's ideology and aims. As a result, the party has become more accepting and open towards state interference in the international economy, in particular when it comes to environmental issues.

Sovereignty Bloc
Centre to Centre-right

After the 1982 Chamber of Representatives elections, the internationalists gained significant influence within the lower house. This not only angered the political parties that firmly believed in Daarwyrth's continued isolationism, but it also threatened their position in the Royal Diet. As a response to this election outcome, the Civic Platform, the Centrist Union, the Mareist People's Party and the Introspective Party - among the nation's oldest political entities - agreed to join forces, and established the Sovereignty Bloc in 1983 CE, subsequently securing a dominant position in the upper house in the 1984 Chamber of Councillors elections.

The Sovereignty Bloc is the direct political opponent of the Internationalist Coalition, and has as its primary aim the restoration of Daarwyrth's isolationist policies. Chiefly among their goals is the nation's withdrawal from the World Assembly, which the political party firmly campaigned against when the process of joining the international community had been initiated. In regard to domestic politics, the party is largely centrist with centre-right leanings, and is in favour of broad personal, economic and political freedoms for citizens, yet on the condition that Daarwyrth's monarchy respected, and Mareist ideals remain the dominant social norms. According to the party's beliefs, non-citizens can remain in Daarwyrth and be a part of its society as residents, as long as they do not introduce foreign influences into what the party considers as the Daarwyrthian way of life.

Republicans of Daarwyrth
Centre to Centre-right

When Otten vyn Hyswald wrote his treatise on abolishing the Daarwyrthian monarchy in 1917 CE, Queen Maria IV initially had ordered his arrest, as well as that of any of his sympathisers. This act was met with mixed reactions in the Royal Diet, and was eventually laid before the Daarwyrthian judiciary. In 1919 CE, the Supreme Court of the Royal State judged that Otten vyn Hyswald was in his right to profess his anti-monarchist viewpoints, and did not offend the majesty of the monarch by doing so. This verdict led to the founding of the Republicans of Daarwyrth as a legitimate political party in 1921, that had as its primary goal abolishing the monarchy, and establishing the Republic of Daarwyrth, with a democratically elected Minister-President as the Head of State. This aspiration remains unchanged in the present.

Ever since its founding the party was met with contempt, ridicule and distrust, both in the Royal Diet, as well as from the general public. It is why the RoD has never risen above ten seats within the Chamber of Representatives, or two in the traditionally monarchist Chamber of Councillors. In the 2020 upper house elections, the party even lost their second seat, and was reduced to a single elected official in the Chamber of Councillors. The party is often depicted as the secret enemy of the Royal State in films, books or other entertainment media, and its sympathisers are frequently depicted as untrustworthy individuals. In reality, the image that has been created around the party is largely fictional. Like the Liberal Party or the Sovereignty Bloc, the party is in favour of broad personal and economic freedoms, and in particular a strong advocate for political liberties. The RoD has a neutral stance on Daarwyrth's isolationism, yet has voted in favour of the nation joining the World Assembly. The party is not considered as a real, serious threat to the existence of the monarchy, because of Daarwyrth being traditionally a strongly monarchist nation.

Political Party

Description

True Royalists
Right

After Daarwyrth transitioned from an absolute monarchy to a semi-constitutional one, the Democratic Royalist Union was founded in 1848 CE. However, their establishment riled up the sympathisers of the absolute monarchy, and thus - under the leadership of Count Ryck Hyrtzeg vyn Lyren - they founded the True Royalists in 1849, making it the second oldest political party in Daarwyrth. They remained the prime political opponent of the DRU for a number of decades, yet after the 1888 Chamber of Representatives elections the party's presence in the Royal Diet started to diminish, until in 1931 CE they held not a single seat in either the upper or lower house. Ever since, the True Royalists have been absent from the Royal Diet.

The political ideals of the True Royalists are simple: they seek to restore the absolute monarchy, and grant the monarch of Daarwyrth absolute power by permanently dissolving the Royal Diet, as well as altering the constitution by removing any article that would constitutionally diminish the monarch's power. The party has always had an strict, orthodox Mareist character - which does not align with mainstream Mareism - and is a strong supporter of Daarwyrthian isolationism. However, after Queen Maria IV abdicated in 1920 CE, and her son King Rubert II succeeded her, he formally distanced himself and the Royal House of Zylkoven from the activities of the True Royalists, and expressed his public disapproval of the party's political aims and goals. As such, members of the True Royalists yearn to see the Zylkoven dynasty removed from power by altering the constitution, and intend to put a member of the Hyrtzeg vyn Lyren bloodline on the throne. Many have argued that this was what had led to the party's disappearance from the Royal Diet in 1931 CE, and their lack of support from the general public. Rumour has it the party is closely watched by the state's intelligence operations.

New Socialists
Far-left

New Socialists was founded in 1995 CE, after a group of students led by Hylga Dryks had separated themselves from the Socialist Party - the traditionally communist party - after desiring a new, fresher take on socialism. The movement gained traction and managed to secure a handful of seats in the 1996 Chamber of Representatives election, and held onto that number in the lower house elections of 2000 CE. Their modest success was short-lived however, as in 2004 the party lost half of their seats, and after the establishment of the United Left of Daarwyrth - which they refused to become a part of - as a united left-wing party, the New Socialists disappeared from the Royal Diet completely.

Helga Dryks' ideologies stand at the heart of the party's political agenda. They seek to establish a state-controlled and centrally planned economy, yet grant citizens a high level of personal freedom, and establish a left-leaning college within the legislature through democratic means. They are a strong supporter of referenda and administrative decentralisation, yet in the form of a federal republic. As such, the party supports abolishing the monarchy, and introducing a democratically elected head of state in the form of a Minister-President, much alike the RoD. While the party had presented itself as a fresh take on socialism when they were established, the ULD managed to surpass that image, and essentially steal much of the electorate of the New Socialists. While serious efforts are being made to return in either chambers of the Royal Diet, the party has not been able to repeat its success from 1996 CE.

Civic Forum
Centre to centre-left

The Civic Forum is among Daarwyrth's younger political parties, as it was founded in 2015 CE by Dame Olya de Molyn, as the primary advocate for direct democracy within Daarwyrth. However, despite its official registration and participation in elections, the party has yet to gain a seat in either chambers of the Royal Diet. Political commentators have been talking positively of the party's chances in future elections, as they see a potential electorate for Civic Forum among Daarwyrth's younger generations.

Dame Olya de Molyn has always been a strong supporter of the widespread use of civil referenda, and a widespread installment of systems of direct democracy across all levels of the Daarwyrthian government. She found allies in the tech-industry - chief among them the wealthy and charismatic entrepreneur Ylon Mysk - with whom she devised a feasible system of e-democracy, that could be implemented into existing manners of governance, in order to establish an efficient voting system for the widespread and daily use of referenda. These ideas had started to gain traction among the general public, yet widespread support for the party was lacking due to its neutral stance on the monarchy. Ever since the party had declared to be against abolishing the monarchy, as long as it was willing to work with a system of direct e-democracy, approval ratings for the Civic Forum went up. The party has much in common with the Technoliberal Alliance, yet focuses more on the civilian aspects of governing, and in particular the establishment of systems of direct democracy. While it has declared during elections to be more than willing to cooperate with the Technoliberal Alliance, the party wishes to remain separate.

Closer Forest
Centre-left

Closer Forest was founded in 2020 CE, shortly after the upper house elections of that year, by Jymsen Orsyn, the son of Sir Hynes Orsyn - who is a diplomat to the regional entity Forest that Daarwyrth is a part of. The party's founder had initially been a member of the Internationalist Coalition, yet was dissatisfied with the extent of the party's stance on cooperation with Forest, and founded a new movement dedicated to bringing Daarwyrth closer to the regional entity, as well as to involve the nation actively in its regional politics.

Orsyn's party has formed its political ideology on the basis of the values and ideals that Forest is built upon, in particular regarding the protection and preservation of the environment. Closer Forest can therefore be considered a centre-left party, that aspires to achieve greater social equality for its citizens, and advocates for the loosening of Daarwyrth's strict citizenship laws, in order to promote greater international integration with entities such as Forest or the World Assembly. The party supports the Daarwyrthian monarchy, yet is in favour of a more constitutional and ceremonial interpretation of it, but has declared not to want to force their interpretation through if it doesn't align with the will of the people. The party is expected to gain traction, due to its environmentalist nature, and among the younger generations of Daarwyrth because of its progressive stance towards the international community.
