The point, the idea behind the model isn't meant to create your kind of country in the traditional sense. It's nothing terribly special, it's not spiritual or esoteric, it has nothing to do with a national soul, nothing like that. It's a guideline, a very apolitical and dare I say nebulous concept there just for the sake of it. It's a practical thing, it works for the country and perhaps only that country. The people know that and so the people work and the country functions.

⠀Weyland F. Synne⠀
Executive Officer of Synne Industries

This is a placeholder image because I'm still
too damn indecisive about aesthetics.

Weyland Fitzroy Synne is an ex-American industrialist and business magnate currently holding the position as chief executive officer of both the Synnian Federal Government and the Synne Industries Manufacturing Corporation. Informally gaining the former on May 7th of 1961, Weyland Synne is the first and only Synnian head of state being regarded as the official national founder and the head orchestrator of the Synnian Conspiracy. As part of the Synnian tandem governance system Synne holds de-jure authoritative power over the Synnian government but in practice, the isles' quasi-democratic adhocracy severely limits any actual jurisdiction the Executive may have. Ironically, it is through government programs and national initiatives through which both Synne's enterprise and country gained their wealth through the late 20th century.

Even under the autocratic rule of Synne, the political condition of Synnia has largely remained inert for the past century barring minor fluctuations relating to radical changes in the realm of the international. This is mostly due in part to Synne's efforts prior to the country's inception to create a self-described "futureproof society" and to "make the politician small again". The apoliticism wrought on by this system throughout the 1970s to 1990s has been credited to the country's overall high sociopolitical stability as opposed to its Western contemporaries though both Synnians and foreigners have criticized Synne, calling the system a "blinding hack" designed to subvert the democratic system and keep himself as Executive in office indefinitely.

While hardly the oldest Synnian, Executive Synne now pushing 181 years of age has taken on a more passive role in the Synnian political sphere, relying on the Synnian Model's interaction with the democratic system in place to adapt instead of having it rely on the vaguely puppeteering rule of government administration. In recent years Synne has turned back towards the administration of his company along with the pursuit of more personal goals in a self-proclaimed 'rediscovery' of Synnian life as an individual. This shift in lifestyle has been criticized by the general Synnian public with many pointing towards administrative decisions of the late 2070s and early 2080s including the reactivation of several government initiatives along with the controversies surrounding the Keiji Psychocracy and the Muninn Deal.

Synne's actions at the head of his company has propelled the Synne Industries Corporation to perhaps the wealthiest and most powerful corporate entity in contemporary history. As of 2085, Synne Industries is estimated to be worth [TBA] Synnian Crbbles while Weyland Synne's net worth lies at a total of [TBA], [TBA]% of the Gross World Product, making Synne the third richest individual in modern history.

Interview Excerpt ⚬ 2038

⇅ Upbringing
On the 20th of December 1904 in an East Manhattan tenement, Weyland Synne would be the first and only recorded child to be born into the Synne family. Though poorly documented, his mother Alta was allegedly of English descent while his father was an Italian-American. Through sparse documentation and vague recollection, Weyland's father was an associate if not a full member of a local family of the American Mafia, mostly involved in the supplying of resources, most prominently firearms to the group. Alta would also be involved in limited criminal undertakings such as smuggling to help support the family's substandard but not strictly poor financial situation. Occupied with mafia duties or simply uncaring, he would often leave his child in isolation for long periods of time, well within the presence of any arms that may have found their way into the family building. The tinkering and experimentation with small arms in various states of assembly and disassembly would help Weyland develop fine motor coordination, an improved visual memory, and an intimate understanding of common mechanical components at the time.

My father was an incredibly busy man. So busy in fact that I barely got to know his face let alone his name but that bit could just be my memory getting to me.
I'll have you know this though, he was an important man for me. Not because of what he did for me no no, but rather what he gave to me and I'm not talking
guns and money. In hindsight I'd say it was a good thing the man left me be because instead of being taught I taught myself; taught myself about counting and
grabbing and little metal pieces. Am I saying every father watching this here show right now should hand their kid an automatic weapon and leave the house for
twelve hours a day? Of course not, but for little me trapped in some creaky apartment eighteen decades ago in New York you better believe that's what worked.

    ⚬ Interview Excerpt - 2072 ⚬

    Synne's original tenement⠀[1906]

Alta, though embroiled in criminal activity much like her spouse was also able to provide to Synne albeit in a more direct manner. While the time spent together between mother and son would be short, she would be responsible for the skills which would eventually have her child lead his own independent life. Alta was a woman who despised inefficiency, eliminating waste, accumulating interest, and putting people to work whenever possible, the latter including her son. Though young Weyland at the time was incapable of being formally employed, he was taught housekeeping skills which would quite literally keep the apartment intact during his parents' long daytime absences. In later years, he would also come to learn basic financial concepts from his mother, something which would come of great use throughout his childhood and beyond.

At age six, Synne would enter the American education system, becoming enrolled in a public school in the general vicinity of the family's apartment. During his stretch of primary education, he would be described by his contemporaries as reserved and discreet but observant, rarely forming any close interpersonal relations but keeping a close check on rumors, hushed secrets, and other potentially useful information. At nine years of age Synne would meet [TBA], a German immigrant two years his senior who would later prove instrumental to both Weyland's growth and the Synnian Conspiracy. The two would work in association over the following years to control the flow of information within the schooling institution, charging fixed fees for the transfer of tips and messages across a growing web of informants and associates. Though the revenue collected from these schemes would be financially insignificant, the practice itself would kindle an interest and competency in administrative tasks within Synne, potentially opening up careers of managerial and bureaucratic nature.

However, Synne's schooling would be cut short with the loss of his parents on the 5th of April of 1916 as both were shot near the West end of Manhattan and their bodies dumped into the Hudson by a rival crime syndicate. Though only his father's body was recovered, Alta was presumably also killed in the attack. Emotionally, Weyland was not particularly distraught by the loss and was far more concerned in regards to the material consequences of his parents' deaths. Synne had lived a life very much independent from his mother and father up until the point and would continue to do so following their departure.

⤩ Mafia Involvement

Synne would learn the ins and
outs of the Thompson

Following the death of his father, Synne, though never becoming fully inducted, would work as an associate and fall under the protection of the crime family his father had once been serving under. The structure at the time would eventually permit Synne to become a full member, having Italian blood on his father's side but the initiation would be held off for several years, decades, and eventually indefinitely as he grew more distant from the American Mafia.

The family's apartment and wealth would eventually find their way into the hands of another associate who would do little with the property after designating it as a weapons stockpiling location and safehouse for the crime family. The influx of small arms within the household and infrequent visits from mafiamen would create an environment near identical to Synne's previous living conditions with the eleven year old continuing to tend to the house and tinker with firearms when possible. The latter was eventually brought to the attention of the local mafia captain who determined that far more use could come out of Synne if he would be placed in an actual working position. In the Winter of 1917 Synne would be withdrawn from his education under the guise of entering the workforce, becoming employed as a child worker at a Northside weapons plant which was known to be a frequent meeting location used by a rival family. Synne would serve as an informant and later an arms trafficker under the mob until adulthood.

Even at the age of eleven, Synne's experience with small arms in the past along with his newfound access to materials would lead to the first steps into experimenting with the design of firearms. Drawing from skills that would eventually develop from his role as a smuggler, Synne periodically hid components and tools in pockets and under coats, bringing them back to the apartment storehouse for assembly as to not attract attention in the workplace. At age thirteen Synne would construct his first functional gun, a simple rifle which operated without fault. His second work, a single-shot handgun, would explode in his hand leaving minor but lasting injuries.

You know funnily enough my first rifle, my first gun even was a whole lot like that. Little tube thing with a folded sheet metal stock and a tiny little grip made for tiny
little hands. Had to be crude enough that I could hammer it together on the floor and it had to be small enough that I could sneak it back out to test. Still knocked
me damn near on my back when I shot it though and I think that's a real show of human ingenuity and how good we've gotten at making things explode.

    ⚬ Interview Excerpt - 2066 ⚬

Though now working for both the factory and the mob, Synne would be able to retain ties with [TBA] who would assist in making up for Weyland's incomplete education, even accelerating it to a pace far faster than what he had been accustomed to as [TBA] taught directly from their advanced placement in schooling. Apart from this tutoring, both would engage in miscellaneous moneymaking schemes such as selling minor trinkets and informally lending small amounts of money to locals. Exploration was also a pastime of [TBA] and Synne with the North end of the city being a hotspot for walks. This would nearly lead to the death of the two in September of 1919 when both were caught in a warehouse collapse but were able to escape mostly uninjured. Synne himself has cited this experience to be a major influence behind his views on death and the Synnian Model as a whole.

⍐ Arms Manufacturing Beginnings
OOC note: Sverse history has some notable deviations, deviations which I have not in any way mentioned in-writing before. Expect some abnormality.

The Synne Repeating Arms
manufacturing plant⠀[1922]

The First World War would see the rapid growth of many novel fields of science spurred on by war efforts. Radio-control, nuclear energy, advanced ballistics, and many other technologies would find themselves relevant in the workshops and manufacturing plants of New York. Synne would witness this transformation firsthand as through 1918 and 1920 the factory he had been working for would slowly inch away from the manufacture of small arms towards more general weapons production. The boy now turned teenager would find himself working not only with firearms but with guided rockets and turboprop engines.

The mob, with no need for precision munitions or aeroplane components opposed the local industry's shift away from small arms but as Synne was merely a spy and not a thief, his cut of pay would remain unchanged. While his actual pay would remain low, prudent spending and the slow accumulation of wealth through informal loans now barely grasping the edge of legality would result in Synne possessing over one thousand dollars (roughly $100,000 USD 2021 equivalent) by 1921. This wealth would come of great use as in April of 1924 following negotiations with the local mob captain, Synne would abandon his role as an informant and instead go into the business of firearms manufacture with an agreement to supply the crime family with a share of the weaponry produced. Borrowing an additional $300, Synne would purchase a storehouse in Eastside New York which would be converted first into a workshop and eventually into a proper factory. This building would be the first establishment owned by the newly formed Synne Repeating Arms Company.

⬚ Early Growth
OOC note: I don't know jack sh█t about how to run a business. I'm a writer, not an executive.
By the end of the First World War New York City would be one of if not the largest arms production centers in the States. This combined with the dissolution of several manufacturing monopolies throughout the 1910s would leave the city a market sandbox for aspiring entrepreneurs like Synne.

However, with only a rudimentary understanding of actually overseeing and operating a business, Synne's first months at the head of his company would be a cautious fumbling for stability. Production of simple arms would continue for a steady pace, ramping upwards slightly in November as a second nearby properly was bought, keeping a moderate amount of income flowing. Synne himself purposefully halted growth throughout the Winter as aspirations for further expansion were stunted by a lack of any true administrative experience. This would persist for months, stretching into the next year and into the Summer of 1925 as the seemingly plateaued company and its executive slowly gained both money and know-how.

The Autumn of the same year would mark the first major expansion of Synne Repeating Arms as a company. September saw its number of properties explode from two to nearly a dozen and its inventory of transportation vehicles grow tenfold. The period of rapid development would be jarring but the company would remain intact, cushioned by saved-up wealth and borrowed money from the mob. This calculated gamble would see Synne on the winning side of things, making the Repeating Arms Company not only a relevant competitor to its contemporaries but an active threat.

No longer reeling from its expansion and back to standard operations, Synne and his company would embark on a cutthroat campaign of further enlargement, seeking to take control of a large portion of the New York area and expand outwards into the rest of the country. A five week period in 1927 which would later gain the moniker of "Bloody November" saw the corporation absorb 7 of its competitors, this eventually growing to a total of 16 by the end of the year, raising the company to a near monopolistic state. Synne who had witnessed the fate of the manufacturing giants through his childhood was well aware of this and in an act of reversal, loosened its grip on the market as to not attract unwanted attention from a watchful and now dangerous American government.

Unbeknownst to Synne, the success of his campaign would be somewhat owed to discreet acts of assistance by the local crime families to ease-up the competition of their supplier. Even before the events of Bloody November, rival arms producers would be subject to the hijacking of vehicles, the sabotage of assembly lines, and even the murder of some key individuals all carried out by the mob and sealed from the eyes of both the public and Synne by their network of corrupt reporters and news executives.

If I knew about what the Cosa Nostra was doing would I have told them to stop? I mean from a present perspective why certainly but if we're taking back then, back
in the 20s and 30s when I was young then no. And it's not out of a fear that they'd be angry at me, I would have legitimately kept it going, the spying, the pillaging,
the burning down of houses, all of it. I had a rabid and clawing mindset at the time, one which has no place in society or at least this country's society today.

    ⚬ Interview Excerpt - 2085 ⚬

⎅ Interstate Expansion

The Synne Repeating Arms Company's first widening to beyond its state borders would occur in 1931 as the company absorbed a remnant company once part of a rail monopoly, subsequently acquiring a fair stretch of railroad along the East Coast as well as the freight liners involved in the company's operations. Though this would potentially allow the corporation to spread its influence over many hundreds of kilometers, regulation surrounding the transfer of large quantities of firearms had more or less backed Synne into a corner. He would either have to structure his enterprise around these laws or diversify and step away from solely producing small arms. In January of 1932 the executive would choose the latter option, arranging a multi-year plan of factory retooling as well as rebranding the company as the Synne Industries Manufacturing Corporation.

The company would diversify into areas reserved mostly for government use, much against the will of the mafia who had been reaping the benefits of the concealable and plentiful arms of Synne Industries. Now instead of only producing rifles, handguns, and the likes, the company would look into the design and manufacture of tanks, military aircraft, and potentially even warships. Out of all of the company's factories, over a quarter were set to be converted for the production of aircraft with far more being planned as the corporation expanded across state borders.

As part of the remodeling of factories, Synne would also choose to take the risk of implementing automation to a large degree within production facilities. Though the technology was still in relative infancy, for the past several years Synne had theorized and experimented with the idea of a near fully mechanical workforce and now that the technology had arrived, the man took the gamble. With the promotion of many previous laborers to administrative positions, 1932 to 1935 saw the flesh and bone manual worker's role slowly fade within Synne Industries as mechanical hands took their spot along assembly lines and factory workers would be forced upwards to the positions of either overseer or maintainer.

You know what I said to those people? I told them to stop putting the working man to waste. You have to look at this from the perspective of the machine in its
coldness and repetition. A piece of metal can drive a nail or weld a plate or hammer a sheet of metal so why have the good laboring man do it? Have the worker
do what only the worker, no, the human can do.

    ⚬ Interview Excerpt - 2037 ⚬

Even though the company's focus would be drawn away from the realm of small arms, its ever-expanding industrial base would actually increase the amount of firearms rolling off assembly lines during the transformation. Now very much a widespread corporation, Synne Industries would have to change its approach to marketing products to the public. Throughout the 30s the company would employ various marketing and branding techniques well ahead of its time, utilizing rudimentary memetics proliferated through mass media, making great use of the radio and later, the home television. Synne Industries at this stage took advantage of American property and gun culture, vertically integrating its own firearms stores and establishing a strong and direct presence throughout the states.

Rail transit would remain one of the pillars of Synne Industries' continued and efficient functioning. The unparalleled might of the train in hauling large quantities of both people and products across hundreds of kilometers was a Godsend for the company with Synne himself taking a distinct liking to the freight train, something which would greatly influence the structure of Synnian cargo transportation in the future. By 1936 Synne Industries controlled not only the ability to produce weapons for the entire country but the means to deliver them through the control of several major cross-continental rail lines with plans to radically expand the pre-existing rail network through the 40s.

⧉ International Dabblings and The War

While Synne Industries had already built-up an "American Empire" during its first decade and a half, the events that would transpire before, during, and after the Second World War would allow the corporation to truly skyrocket into the international stage. Though the market interconnectivity possible with intercontinental freighters and long-distance transport aircraft had existed in theory for years, it would only see realization through the 1940s with none other than Synne Industries pioneering this revolution.

The company would first truly dip its toes into the international stage in 1939 when Weyland Synne would make a cross-Atlantic journey from Chicago to Paris as part of a demonstration of the company's latest 'Snowbird' long-range aircraft. The trip itself not only demonstrated the craft's capabilities but allowed Synne to attend a direct conference between several major European business and defense leaders. In the early months of the following year, the company would enter its first foreign agreement, signing a contract with the British government to design a dedicated maritime patrol aircraft.

A minor hitch would be met as the outbreak of the Second World War abruptly cancelled the program as Britain's defense priorities shifted. Though this momentary inconvenience would put time and effort to waste, Synne Industries would rocket back as wartime demand for hardware in massive quantities allowed factories to be put to full use. Synne's decision to diversify towards general weapons manufacture would pay off spectacularly with newly operational Synne Industries shipyards producing tens, dozens, and eventually hundreds of ships each year to aid the war effort.

Throughout the course of the War, Synne would spearhead several company initiatives to experiment with new technological concepts that had emerged during the interwar period. The corporation would heed Britain's call for new VTOL craft in 1940 and in the following year the Vulture II family of multirole craft would be rolling-off Synne Industries production lines across the American continent, revolutionizing the hunter-killer group and helping secure Allied air power over Europe. Though most of Synne Industries' ventures would secure positive returns, Synne would later on to claim that at the time this was not due to any aptitude for technological foresight, stating that he was "simply an extraordinarily lucky man".

As the conflict drew to a close, Synne Industries had gone from an American Enterprise to one multinational, propping up administrative centers and acquiring manufacturing plants across not only North America and Europe but select regions of a recovering Eastern Asia. While hardly a stateless entity akin to the postnational corporations of the 21st century, Synne Industries' actions throughout the 40s would pave the way for these more extreme recent models. Lend-Lease deliveries to the Soviets and the negotiations associated with them would also provide the company with an inroads to further Soviet agreements and later, infiltration.

◩ Mafia Pullout

As Synne Industries swelled to an immense size through the 40s, the relation between company and mob had become more and more of a liability than a boon. Now only providing little and costing less, the mafia's continued relations with Synne Industries would only create another fragility for the company albeit one tucked away under lies, bribes, and proxies. Synne would begin directing his corporation away from the mob through the late 40s, lessening any direct interaction between himself and men of the organization along with cutting ties and agreements when possible.

Unfortunately, his plans would not go unnoticed for long. Perhaps due to rushed efforts or simply a slip in coordination, knowledge of the pullout would find its way to some member of the American Mafia, eventually snaking its way up the chain of command into the ear of a New York crime boss. No immediate action would be taken as Synne at this point was a very powerful and protected man but eventually ireful thoughts would turn to conspiracy as more and more mafia officials caught onto the news. Synne was a collaborator and his company a useful tool but the Cosa Nostra would not stand for a traitor and on December 9th of 1948 in the streets of Manhattan, Weyland Synne would be shot three times in the chest.

Political Summary

⧎ Notable Policies and Initiatives

    • Pinnacle Resolution [1961]

The official declaration of Synnia's status as an independent nation state. The resolution would establish both the nation and the quasi-autocratic tandem-governance system still used within the country in present day though the 'original' Synne Industries Manufacturing Corporation would by American law, remain a United States enterprise until 1963. The 1961 declared 'transfer' of the corporation to the isles would not fall under any law.

    • Hennion Decentralization Act [1989]

Passed in 1989, the Hennion Decentralization Act officially split a previously unitary Synnia into 6 aboveground administrative divisions, establishing the modern federal system. This would later expand in 2034 and again in 2064, bringing the country to a total of 4 aboveground regions and 8 belowground. The act would pave the way for further decentralization of the country throughout the 21st century as more of the nation swelled and urbanized.

    • Blackburn's Decree [1967]

Blackburn's Decree would be the act officially establishing Weyland Synne as Synnia's sole autocratic head of state along with granting him the associated executive powers. The law would also put in place the official Synne Industries Executive Chain of Command. The decree has hence been adjusted throughout the early 2000s to allow for a more streamlined process if the executive were to select an official successor.

    • Paskal Resolution of 2072 [2072]

In 2072 legislation would be passed which officially declared artificial intelligence of a sapient level Synnian citizens. Though laws regarding the rights and treatment of AI had been passed in select regions of the country beforehand, the 2072 resolution would come to establish a baseline universal system across the system but one still able to be adjusted down to the regional or even municipal level.

    • Vlasov Citizenry Act [2041]

In response to declining birth rates and a prediction that the country would fall short of its goal of 1 billion citizens, the Vlasov Synnian Citizenry Act was passed in 2051 which officially permitted the direct material synthesization of humans using biological fabrication vats. Though it was encouraged for these children to be birthed into existing Synnian families, several thousand humans were synthesized as "children of the state" by order of Synne Industries throughout the 2040s.

    Law & Order

    • Madron Act [2013]

Under the Madron Act, Synnia's penitentiaries are not so much prisons are they are rehabilitation centers. As the Synnian population was expected to flatline in the coming decades, it was recognized that retaining traditional penal centers would slowly drain the psychological integrity of the Synnian citizenry or even the population count directly. The majority of penitentiary centers operated by Synne Industries are suited for some form of criminal rehabilitation while other private prisons are highly encouraged to follow a similar route. More traditional establishments are still maintained though are usually reserved for foreign detainees.

    • Vega Act [1967]

Drafted and passed in Synnia's infancy, the Vega Act details that all Synnian citizens over the age of 20 must be in possession of at least one firearm. The act was passed as a defensive measure in case of invasion of the country by superpowers far more threatening to Synnia at the time. Though now antiquated in nature, Synnia's inherent gun culture ensures that nearly no citizen will ever be in breach of the act and even still, it is hardly enforced in present day. The act has also been expanded to include 'any lethal purpose-built weapon'.

    • Project Axeman [1971]

Project Axeman was an early Synnian initiative seeking to partially reactivate the Synnian nuclear arsenal to allow for first-strike and partial second-strike capabilities. The project would see one Soviet ballistic missile submarine be purposefully run aground and converted to a missile battery powered by external sources. Axeman would grant the fledgeling country functional nuclear strike capabilities, deterring foreign aggression throughout the next decades.

    • Longinus Program [1999]

The Longinus Program was a government modernization scheme seeking to drastically increase the combat ranges of Synnian air and sea combatants. Longinus would encompass various design competitions, defense subsidies, and atmospheric weapons tests into the early 21st century. The end of the program would see the emergence of many new precision weapons systems along with the ship classes and aircraft capable of hosting them. Prototype emplaced offshore defenses also provided the basis for the Brimstone Bay strike platform array.

    • State Self-Sustainment Acts [1994]

In 1994 legislation was passed to significantly cut down on government subsidies to major corporate entities and instead direct a smaller amount of funding towards Synne Industries 'safety net' services and products in case of a major market crisis. Allowing subsidization to go towards both Synne Industries along with various smaller corporations instead of singular powerful companies would both promote competition, reduce the risk of monopolization, and allow the government to take advantage of its own protective cushion.

    • Sokolo-Greene Contingency Act [2028]

The Sokolo-Greene Act is a law passed as part of several SynUnder-centric self-sustainment programs aiming to protect the nation in the case of a mass embargo being placed on the isles. The Act establishes a set quota for energy and basic living resources which the SynUnder complex must be producing or must be able to shift to the production of in short order. This quota has since been adjusted in accordance to population growth, metropolitan development, and advances in genetic and cybernetic augmentation.

    • The Gentleman's Agreement [N/A]

Though not directly a government act or policy, the unofficial accord known only as The Gentleman's Agreement is an informal and unwritten pact between the smaller domestically operating and larger internationally operating market entities of Synnia. The agreement discourages larger enterprises from encroaching on local "small town markets" while smaller domestic businesses have generally agreed to not directly compete with Synnian corporate giants operating primarily from select metropolitan areas. Both Weyland Synne and the Synnian government recognize the pact and work to uphold it through general lawmaking.

    • ADAM Agreement [2031]

The Atlantic Deep Asthenospheric Mining (ADAM) Agreement is an international treaty signed between Synne Industries and the United Nations in 2031. The treaty would permit the construction of subterranean drilling structures and general industry beneath the Atlantic Ocean by Synnian private entities so long as they resided within the country's exclusive economic zone. Though the agreement would assist in the slant construction of the SynUnder complex through the 30s and 40s, Synnia has gone so far as to completely and openly ignore UN regulations in regards to subterranean construction in recent years.

Controversies and Criticisms

⛶ For and Against

Politics are a very strange, a very complex thing within the human mind especially in our times, so much so that I think I'd be doing the concept an injustice
trying to pin it down to one overarching name. The quantification and breaking down to numbers and coordinates I feel is taking this sort of thing to the
extreme. It's rough, it's muddied, it's built for misinterpretation but it's what the fast youth of the time like. If you want to know one's views and to what
degree they may 'support' or 'oppose' an idea you don't ask them for a measly yes or no or a number or a coordinate on some imaginary grid. You sit
yourself down and you have a talk with the other person whoever they might be, like a real human being.
