Vote Jay — A vote for the Prime Defender

Well, well, well, it looks like the South Pacific's resident Captain America impersonator is running for office again. When will he learn? Never! That's when! I'm eager to serve at the South Pacific's pleasure, and that is why I'm putting my name out as an option for prime minister, or should I say, prime defender? Enough silliness! Let's get down to business, shall we?

---
LEADERSHIP
---
---
---— I have two terms of Cabinet experience on my belt
---
---— I will work with the Cabinet to meet the term agenda
---

Having served in two Cabinet minister positions in the South Pacific and as a member of various ministries over time, I will bring a wealth of knowledge to the prime minister position necessary for a head of government. In 2020, I served as a Minister of Regional Affairs, which saw me co-organize the inaugural Pacific-Con event, and as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in which the groundwork was laid for the Partnership for Sovereignty we have today alongside 10000 Islands and The Rejected Realms.

For example, if our Minister of Culture wants to organize a massive interregional event in the upcoming term or the Minister of Foreign Affairs wishes to build upon the Partnership for Sovereignty, I can provide whatever assistance they desire to make sure that their term agenda and priorities are thoroughly met. I will also keep tabs on our Cabinet ministers to make certain that they uphold the promises they make during this campaign.

---
THE MINISTRIES
---
---
---— I will provide insight and support for our Cabinet ministers
---
---— I will work with the MoFA to develop the Partnership for Sovereignty
---

When I last served in the Cabinet, there were only three ministries. Now, there are five, and a sixth ministry may be on the way. While some may see this increase as troublesome, I see it as an efficient and promising division of labor that will produce better results for the South Pacific. Whoever you elect to serve as the next Cabinet, I will make sure that we develop interpersonal relationships from the get-go that allow us to move forward with the best interests in mind for the region.

Based on my previous experience as a Minister of Regional Affairs and a staff writer and editor at NationStates Today, I have developed a strong understanding of what is needed from the legacy RA ministries at Culture, Engagement, and Media. I will use this knowledge to provide reliable insight for our ministers in these areas and provide support where it is most needed.

I would like to work with the Minister of Media to ensure that The Southern Journal becomes the preeminent news organization that it once was, rivaling that of NationStates Today and The Rejected Times. To accomplish this task, I will discuss with the Minister issues such as timeliness, activity, and editorial standards to improve and rebuild TSJ. What's more, I aim to contribute a few articles myself to highlight progress made throughout the term or discuss issues of regional significance.

As for our ministers in Foreign Affairs and Defense, I will rely on my expertise as a former Minister of Foreign Affairs to provide the best support for them. While I do not have prior firsthand experience in R/D, I know that we have former prime ministers in the General Corps who can lend their knowledge to where I am lacking. I'm willing to admit what's not my strongest suit than wing it and crash down the road.

The ministry where I believe I can contribute the most is Foreign Affairs. Having served as its minister once before, I have found that it is this area of regional government that interests me the most. Whoever serves as the Minister of Foreign Affairs will find that I will inquire into their activities the most because I am greatly interested in developing the Partnership for Sovereignty, and I hope that this person will welcome such interest.

THE PfS
---
---
---— We will address the endorsement deficit that the PfS has to the WALL
---
---— We will look to holding periodic festivities with other PfS members
---

The Partnership for Sovereignty represents a new milestone for the South Pacific, the member regions, and the fundamental principle of regional sovereignty in NationStates. For a long time, those who supported this concept maintained an informal voting bloc in the World Assembly Security Council, but now we exist in tandem with the World Assembly Legislative League and the Consortium. While this represents a step forward for regional sovereignty, there are additional steps we can take to strengthen the PfS.

At this time, there are two major issues that I have identified in the PfS that should be addressed. The first is an endorsement deficit in comparison to the WALL. Despite having as many member regions, the WALL has roughly 1950 combined endorsements in the World Assembly between their delegates, while the PfS has 1500 endorsements. As prime minister, I would like to address this issue with the other member regions and perhaps share endorsement strategies to turn this deficit into a surplus.

We could cut into this deficit by globalizing the Southern World Assembly Initiative, or SWAN. I'd like to explore ways to share the technical aspects of SWAN with the other member regions and see the creation of similar initiatives in other member regions. The SWAN has been useful over the years in building an endorsement culture in the South Pacific and allowed our delegates to receive more endorsements than delegates in most other feeders, so I believe that we can discover similar results in other member regions if we share the SWAN with them.

The second issue is the need for periodic interregional activity that prevents the stagnation that the WALL has endured in recent memory. By holding summits and other interregional activities, we can allow the PfS to prosper and thrive and continue to have an impactful contribution to the World Assembly. For this reason, I will recommend to the Minister of Culture a festival or some other event involving the PfS that fulfills this objective.

---
THE OWL
---
---
---— I will work under the assumption that the OWL will become a ministry
---
---— We will address whatever issues remain before the next election
---

Next is the Office of WA Legislation. For a long time in my NS life, I've looked at the World Assembly with befuddlement, not knowing the procedures and how to write resolutions. However, in the past few months, I've taken the time to learn more about the World Assembly and how I can contribute to it. I recently submitted a few drafts for General Assembly resolutions that I feel are up to the institution's standards.

Knowing the World Assembly as I do now, I believe that the future is bright for the South Pacific in this area, and the OWL is becoming prepared for the eventual upgrade to full-scale ministry. I will work with the OWL secretary under the assumption that the office will become a ministry by the June election to make sure the OWL is as prepared as possible for such a transition. Whatever preparations are necessary, I will discuss these issues with the OWL secretary and address them in a timely fashion.

---
SUNSHINE
---
---
---— Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
---
---— It's not warm when she's away
---

Alright, who loves sunshine? We all love sunshine, am I right? As prime minister, I will review and publish old, nonsensitive Cabinet discussions as timely as possible to ensure that the Cabinet is compliant with the Sunshine Act. The last time the Cabinet publicly released its discussions was back in June 2020, so there must be some discussions worth publishing. By that same token, I will keep private the discussions deemed vital to the Coalition's safety and security.

---
PRIME DEFENDER
---
---
---— On your left
---

You see this shield? This is a vibranium shield that will be used to protect and defend the South Pacific's regional sovereignty and those for who the Partnership for Sovereignty vow to do the same. Like this shield, the defenders are the shield against raiders who threaten the freedom of innocent regions. As prime minister, I assure you that our regional sovereignty and that of innocent communities across NationStates will remain intact.

---
CONCLUSION
---

I haven't served as or campaigned to become the prime minister before because I felt that I didn't have enough knowledge and government experience to do so, but I believe that I now have the necessary wisdom and insight to become the prime minister. It will be an honor if you elect me to serve as the South Pacific's head of government.

Please vote Jay for prime minister of the South Pacific.

EXTRANEOUS INFORMATION

  1. Who is your favorite politician in real life?

  2. Who is your favorite philosopher in real life?

  3. Who is your favorite fictional character?

  4. Cake or pie?

  5. Would you coup the region?

  6. What is your real name?

Who is your favorite politician in real life?

Nelson Mandela was one of the greatest voices for freedom, justice, and equality that the world has ever seen. Mandela's story is one of perseverance against tyranny and racial injustice, speaking out against apartheid in South Africa. He spent 27 years of his life imprisoned for this righteous cause and was eventually released and elected president of a free South Africa. May one of the greatest people to have graced this earth rest in peace.

Who is your favorite philosopher in real life?

If you ever take a college course that teaches Greek philosophy at any point, you will most certainly hear the name of Socrates, who has since become my favorite philosopher. His way of thinking, ideas of reason, and rebellious challenges of authority and tradition are the reasons why I hold Socrates with high regard. The Socratic method of debate is one that encourages critical thought, something that many people are in dire need of in real life. So, if you think history is boring and want to sleep on it, please don't think about sleeping on Socrates. His ideas will save the world one day.

Who is your favorite fictional character?

Does this question even need to be asked, question mark.

Cake or pie?

Well, duh-doy! It's pie! Anyone who says otherwise is guilty of treason and shall be subjected to Auphelia's torture and inevitably fed to the Seraphian shark god.

Would you coup the region?

What is your real name?

Ha ha! You thought I was gonna give it to you!
