Mon Landia is the only overseas province of South Baba. Its capital and largest city is Port Norviktu which was formerly known as Monia-on-Sea. It is the most populous province in South Baba since admitted on 20 July 2020 with estimated population of 39.7 million people.

Mon Landia is a former Monia colony, which gives it its name. Before becoming a colony, this region was called Mrvay which is a Yituvian word which means "mountains". After a conquest by the Monians in the 17th century, Mrvay became a colony called Mon Landia which is its current official name. Mon Landia was Monia's most important region because it had many expensive and scarce resources.

On 20 July 2020, Mon Landia became a province of South Baba. With the South Baban Prime Minister by his side, the President of the Republic of South Baba formally proclaimed Mon Landia the newest province of the Republic of South Baba after the signing of the annexation treaty that same day.

Etymology

Mon Landia, meaning Land of Mon, was given as a name by the Mon people from the Mon Island. They were the first to land in the territory. [WIP]

The standard way to refer to a resident of Mon is "Monian" specifically or "South Baban" generally.

History

Colony of Monia

In 1935 the Kingdom of Monia found a huge uninhabited piece of very fertile land and claimed it to establish a colony there, initially calling it Mon Land. This name would then evolve into Mon Landia.

Monia built a city named Monia-on-Sea (now named Port Norviktu) to host the colony’s central port. Mon Landia’s first Governor-General was Alexander Biavat, a famous businessman from Monia.

Mon Landia’s relevance grew to such an extent that, decades later, the colony was repeatedly proposed as a site for a Monia spaceport or even a cosmodrome but environmental organizations stopped both projects because of their harmful effects.

Province of South Baba

On 20 July 2020, Mon Landia became a province of South Baba. With the South Baban Prime Minister by his side, the President of the Republic of South Baba formally proclaimed Mon Landia the newest province of the Republic of South Baba after the signing of the annexation treaty that same day.

To mark the event, impromptu motorcades inundated the already crowded streets of downtown Monia City (now Port Norviktu, capital of Mon Landia) as their drivers perpetually pressed on their horns. Mon Landia was seen as being on the threshold of a new epoch.
